I ordered these brakes on Tuesday they arrived at my house (in southeast Texas) on Friday (free shipping). These brakes heavy duty and a breeze to install. I paid twice as much for brakes I had bought before, locally. Good job ETrailer!!!!

EXCELLENT...... START TO FINISH. Fantastic service, great prices, quality products. Here's a before and after picture. It only took 30 minutes and basic tools to make the replacement. So much better than trying to clean up the old rusty one. Thanks again, Bill Borland in Michigan

Sara was very helpful at putting together my order after my POT HOLE incident, which destroyed the rim, tire, brake assembly, etc. Thanks for the help, im back on the road !!

by:

I bought 2 sets of 12x2 electric brake assembly for my car hauler. I was just going to replace the shoes but after remembering the difficaulty in doing drum brakes in the early days, I found it easier and less time consuming by just remove 5 bolts and connect two wires. This product came to my door with in only 3 days. Great looking product (no picture because i"m writing this after the install).
I have been back to etrailer several time for other items such as hitch shank, wheel center caps even grease caps. Great place to shop.

Brakes arrived very quickly and looked very good. One spring and adjustment rod came off during shipping, but the pieces were there and easily installed. I haven't installed them yet, but am very happy with product at this point.

am still very pleased with these brakes. They have performed great with no problems to date.

I am writing this very favorable review of my online shopping experience with etrailer. Recently I had to replace the brakes, hubs, wheels and tires on my travel trailer. Please keep in mind that I am a 65 year old man without a lot of experience with online shopping. Never-the-less, I decided to give it a try in hopes of saving some money. To my surprise, etrailer made the experience very easy and painless. Before I placed my order on line, I had a question about one of the items on my shopping list, so I placed a call to them. I spoke with a very lovely and patient Customer Service Representative by the name of Michelle S. She was very helpful in answering my questions and encouraged me to call her back directly when I was ready to place my order; and so I did. During the shipping process, she kept me informed through emails the status of my order and everything arrived on time and in great shape. I truly appreciate the personalized services I received doing business with etrailer. They truly removed all of the uncertainty and nervousness of shopping online.

by:

The right and left hand brake were very easy to install and came with everything needed. The only problem after install, is that the left hand break gave off a buzzing sound while brakes were not engaged...adjusting the arm as suggested by your technicians to the electric magnet did not help...there was little engagement from magnet to drum while brake were not engaged, that i decided to go the 8k miles anyway, checking every night stop...it still has the buzzing sound and I will need to replace.

by:

Unfortunately, one of the 4 brakes came with the spring and adjuster shaft on the bottom of the box. I put them back on without too much trouble but etrailer should review the product packaging in order to protect the brakes from damage. The install needs shrink tubing style crimp connectors. Mine required sizes for 16 to 18 gage and one size up for joining 3 wires where one wire crosses over thru the axel from the left to the right side. Also there are two adjuster plugs per brake so a total of 8 plugs are required for 4 brakes. Once installed they worked great.

by:

New Dexter complete brake assembly even comes with new mounting nuts. Fast service and quality item.

by:

Great to work with. Understood what I needed better than I did. Perfect fit.

by:

Wonderful service, exact replacement, delivered promptly!

by:

Good OEM replacement parts at the best price I could find. Bolted right up with no issues. Very disappointed that the brake adjuster slots do not come with plugs. Plugs from old brake assy, did not fit, plus there are two slots per new brake assy, but only one on old brake assy. Ordered 8 plugs. Disappointed as I had to pay for additional shipping when I ha free shipping.

by:

I had bought a used Hallmark 24' cargo trailer. Got around to repacking the bearings and one brake assembly had just come apart. Electric brakes and one lead was gone so I order this item. Arrived in a timely manner. Installed backing plate/brakes and hub in about 15 minutes. Attached electric brake leads and everything looks great. I have not figured out how to test the electric brakes.

by:

I had ordered some parts online to rebuild the suspension on one of our trailers. Customer service called me a short time later to inform me that they were out of stock on some items, they asked if it was possible to substitute some items. She was able to find the exact parts I needed in a different kit. The parts came within 3 days, very well packed, and they fit perfectly! This is the 3rd time I've ordered from etrailer and they have exceeded my expectations every time. EXCELLENT customer service and quality parts.

by:

The new brakes work well on my trailer. However, when I replace them next time I will spend the extra $$ to get the self adjusting version.

by:

Worked great ..fast delivery

Bolted them on, wired trailer over from hydraulic brakes. this job took about 4 hours start to finish. 3 axle trailer. These brakes will hold back my tractor.

Thanks or the prompt reply on proper grease seal. You were very prompt on shipping all the parts I needed for my trailer brakes. It only took 4 days from order until I received. Every thing worked fine. Thanks again for the very good service. Ray Bellamy

  • Why Would Brakes Lock Up After Wiring and Brake Controller Install on a 2011 Ford E-250
It sounds like you installed a 6-way on your 2011 Ford E-250 with a brake controller to tow a trailer that also has a 6-way. The thing about 6-way wiring is that there is two generally accepted wiring pin outs for them. The only difference between the two is that the brake output circuit and the 12 volt accessory circuit are swapped. It sounds like your trailer and E-250 are using different wiring. On E-250 you will want to swap the center pin of the connector with the pin in the 9:00...

  • Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Brakes that Lock Up in Reverse
If you disconnect the trailer connector when backing up do the brakes still lock up? What I bet is happening is that your trailer reverse light circuit is shorting out to the brake output circuit which is causing the brakes to apply every time you put your vehicle in reverse. If you have a great emergency brake and the ability to block your back wheel what I would recommend you do is test the brake output circuit of your vehicle with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 when your vehicle is...

If you could provide a little more information I would be happy to make a recommendation for a brake assembly for your trailer. • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Locking Up and Brake Controller Reading No Trailer Connection
This could be a ground problem, a problem with the trailer connectors, or a problem with the brakes. The first thing I would check is the trailer connectors on the truck and trailer. Make sure they are clean and free of corrosion. Corrosion could cause a short between the 12 volt power wire and the brake output wire. You should also check for dirt and corrosion on the back side of the connectors. If this does not solve the problem, you can also make sure that the trailer is pinned out...

All 15-inch wheels with a 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern that we offer have a pilot hole diameter of either 2.62-, 3.19- or 3.31-inches. All of these 15-inch rims are shown on the linked page. • Trailer Brakes Will Not Work with 2014 Ram 2500 But Work Fine with Other Trucks
Since the truck works fine with other trailers and the trailer works fine with other trucks the issue must be compatibility between the brake controller and the trailer brakes. Check the brake controller and make sure it is in the correct mode (electric for electric brakes or electric over hydraulic for electric over hydraulic trailer brakes) if the brake controller has both modes. • Brake Controller Error Message with 2012 Dodge 2500 4x4 Towing 2002 4-Star Horse Trailer
The problem you describe of your brake controller displaying an error message when your tow vehicle lights are turned on suggests several possible causes. One potential cause is damage/corrosion in the trailer connector(s) that could be causing two separate circuits to be bridged. It can happen that corrosion in a connector can actually create an electrical connection between two adjacent circuits, in this case the brake circuit and the running light circuit. Another possibility is that...

  • Inspecting and Testing Trailer Brake Magnet and Wiring
The magnet looks to be fine, a little dirty perhaps, but it doesn't look like the copper windings are coming through. The melted wire though indicates that there was likely a short that caused the wire to melt. A short could have been at the magnet or the wiring to the magnet. Pinched wires or frayed copper strands touching bare metal could be the cause. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to test the magnets.

For the drum what you are going to want to look at is discoloration where the pads make contact with the drum and the armature surface which is where the magnet makes contact with the inside of the drum. Discoloration means that the metal is damaged and the hub and drum assembly would need to be replaced. In some cases some brake brake shops can turn a drum but it seems that less and less places are doing that. Both pictures came through. The brakes look like they may have taken some...

  • Trailer Brakes Lock Up When Brakeaway System is Wired In
It does sound like there is a problem with the switch or its wiring. The pin might be pulled as well. When the pin is pulled the metal contacts inside will touch and complete the circuit. Corrosion could also cause a short inside the switch. It sounds like the easiest solution is to replace the switch. Really any switch will do unless your system takes a special switch. The most popular switch is # HM20010.

That would indicate that the red wire (stoplight switch) of the brake controller is not correctly wired to the stoplight switch of your vehicle. Most brakes also require a (break-in) period. Dexter says to get up to about 20-30 mph and use the manual override several times. They may also feel weak breaking because it is recommended to let the brakes (seat) into the hub for the first 200 miles and then readjust the brakes. It is likely you need to do both of these even if they properly adjusted the brakes. Nearly every time we hear about someone with new brakes that are weak the issue is that they just aren't adjusted properly. Check...
