Trailer Brakes Will Not Work with 2014 Ram 2500 But Work Fine with Other Trucks  

Question:

My ram 2500 will activate other 5th wheel brakes. My forest river Sierra brakes opperate normally with other trucks, but when I put my 2014 Ram 2500, with my 2015 Sierra 5th wheel, I have no trailer brakes. I get a trailer brake disconnect message on my truck. Ive had New connectors installed on both the trailer and the truck.....any sugestions?

Since the truck works fine with other trailers and the trailer works fine with other trucks the issue must be compatibility between the brake controller and the trailer brakes. Check the brake controller and make sure it is in the correct mode (electric for electric brakes or electric over hydraulic for electric over hydraulic trailer brakes) if the brake controller has both modes.

The controller on your 2014 Ram 2500 might be more sensitive to ground or short issues than the other trucks you have tried it with. So make sure that the truck and trailer side connectors have the main grounds attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces (the trucks is probably inaccessible). Also make sure the magnet ground wires are attach to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
