Since it sounds like you were trying to match up colors during your install I believe you are correct that you wired it incorrectly. Although there are common wiring colors, there are no rules saying that everything has to be wired using any specific colors. This goes for both vehicle and trailer side. If you connect wire colors instead of checking their functions you could end up with an incorrect wiring system.

The Curt Front Hitch, # 33055, on a 1999 Ford Van does not require any cutting of the front valance (air dam), but you do need to remove the front valance from the bumper.
Also, the two front holes in the frame rails need to be enlarged. Then, you will use the fishwire (included) to install the 4 bolts and spacers into the holes in the frame. Then, you just need to attach the hitch to those bolts and torque to 75 ft. lbs.

I spoke with my contact at TorkLift and confirmed that the TorkLift HiddenPower Under-Vehicle Battery Mount with Battery Box # TLA7729 needs to be mounted on the driver's side frame rail. Before installing the battery box you will want to adjust the route of the parking brake cable so the box does not interfere.
