Ford must angle that sensor differently amongst vehicles because some people seem to have trouble and others do not.
At worst you would just have to kick your foot on either side of the hitch instead of in the middle.

There isn't a need to pull any fusees to flat tow your 2018 Ford C-Max. I checked with Roadmaster and they state that no fuses need to get pulled so none of their fuse switch kits are needed.

You could indeed use an adapter like # HTAD that would allow you to use your current bike rack in a 1-1/4 inch receiver, but that's never the first option I'd recommend. Using an adapter moves the load of the bike rack further away from the rear of the vehicle increasing the leverage applied to the hitch and the hitch's attachment points to the vehicle. Here's how you will know if the SMI Air Pressure Stop Light Switch Kit # SM99629 is needed when using the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system. With you engine turned off on your vehicle go out and press the brake pedal of the vehicle. If the brake lights come on then you don't need this switch.
