Will Curt Trailer Hitch Block Hands-Free Liftgate on a 2015 Ford C-Max
Question:
I know there are hitches that fit this car. My question is the option package I am looking at getting has the hands free tailgate option. I have heard that some hitches block the eye for the foot swipe to open the tailgate. Does this hitch block the eye making it useless? If so, do you have a recommendation for a hitch. We will be using it to carry bikes long distances.

It is possible that Curt trailer hitch # C12092 will block the sensor for the hands-free liftgate on the 2015 Ford C-Max. In some cases it will just limit the coverage area of the sensor. Ford must angle that sensor differently amongst vehicles because some people seem to have trouble and others do not.
The Eco-Hitch trailer hitch # 306-X7200 is confirmed to work with the hands-free liftgate. We had a customer install this hitch and come back and tell us that the sensor was not affected in any way, so it is the safer option.
The EcoHitch # 306-X7200 has the more desirable 2" hitch opening that gives you a wider range of options for accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. I recommend the Swagman Trailhead # S63360. It holds 2 bikes, its compatible with either the Curt Hitch # C12092 or the EcoHitch # 306-X7200, and it has a rise in the shank for better ground clearance.
