Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

This wheel is to replace the same one that had a crack somewhere and slowly leaked air. I have four Dextsar wheels on my travel trailer and two of them needed replacement due to air leaks. I hope this new one won’t present any problems.

by:

Just got them mounted and balanced and the mechanic said that they were the worst wheels he has ever seen and that the wobbled side to side on the balancing machine. What now

Do you know if the mechanic was using a pin plate adapter when balancing them? Trailer wheels are centered by the position of the lug bolts and not the center bore of the wheel like automotive vehicles are.

by:

Wheel looked fine. It is a spare and so far have not had to use it.

by:

Love the powder coat

by:

perfect wheels we use both styles, on our builds. an extremely affordable price! lightning fast free shipping too. will use for all our teardrop wheels! thank you, george

by:

Only 1 of the 3 wheels I ordered arrived. I called etrailer 3 days later to be told, the other two wheels had been returned to etrailer and they were restocked back to the shelf. No updates on anything were provided by etrailer, until I called and inquired. I was told I was refunded the $88.00 the night before even though it has not shown up on my bank statement yet. I was then told I need to reorder the two items that were returned if I still want them. I was told I cannot pick them up, even though I live 6 miles away. So now I have to wait for "EXPRESS SHIPPING" for 3 days, when it is only one day ground shipping. I will say usually dealing with etrailer is enjoyable, fast, and easy. This experience has been a disaster all the way around and I am now missing a deadline. Thanks,

by:

It is a good solid wheel with a nice powder coat finish.

by:

Got the wrong parts or the review would be excellent. Called customer service and they exceeded my expectations. Mistakes happen to all of us. The character of a person or company is how they respond to the mistake. I really expected the worse and got the best. They shipped the correct part quickly and arranged for the return of the wrong parts. Great value also. Etrailer has a new loyal customer.

Product is great and my experience with your company was very positive. I have told many friends to consider doing business with you.

by:

Needed 15" wheels on my travel trailer so I could run load E tires. I wanted the same brand of wheel that was on it from the factory. Found these and they were perfect. Good price, worked as expected. Would recommend buying here.

by:

Best prices around. Customer service was very helpful. Items showed up sooner than expected.

by:

Great wheels! Fot perfect and fast ship ping

by:

nice rims at a good price. I purchased 6 new ones to replace my old rusty wheels on my 20' box trailer. The best part is that they are made in the U.S.A.

by:

Fast courteous service. Purchased a trailer wheel so I could have a spare tire for my enclosed trailer. Now I can rest easy knowing I have a spare tire in case of an emergency. I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone. Thanks again!

by:

Had one rim bend on my first load, well under rated weight. Had another rip from the hub during same load. I tossed the other two and wouldn't suggest this garbage for a car trailer, maybe a light duty utility but not anything over 3 tons.

by:

Wheels showed up on time, packed in box very well to avoid damage. Look great, had tires installed and balanced, technician stated that steel wheels usually aren't that round/straing, but these were excellent. Installed on camper, look great. Very happy with purchase and quality so far.

by:

Great price and great product .

by:

I received my 15 inch trailer rims all the way in Alaska within 7 days, great shipping rate and quick. They were exactly what the description detailed. I continue to use eTrailer for other products because of their service.

by:

It was plain black mini mod wheels, so nothing fancy but was exactly as advertised. Customer follow up was on the mark.....always wanted to know if everything was going well. Tacking info was accurate and shipping charges very reasonable.

Wish I could buy pickup wheels here too.

by:

I ordered these with tires mounted ready to install and it was an exact fit and they look great, I've found etrailer is the best place for anything I need for trailer related items.

by:

I love these wheels. Great Price, Great Product. I finish is nice and the wheels perform on my trailer well.

by:

Great wheels. Look great with some 205-75R-15 Trailer King Tires.

by:

Wheels came by promise date and were by all means better than expected, great quality on the powder coat. Black wheels with chrome centers and lugs make the trailer pop.

by:

I never write reviews good or bad, but etrailer has been an awesome company to buy from. I completely re-did a 16-ft car hauler trailer and every single product I purchased was great quality, had an unbeatable price, and shipped the same day I ordered!

by:

I've ordered items over the past 4-5 years... have always been happy with the products and items I've purchased... and this last time I got in on a free shipping program.... that was great....

So far... to date the quality has been great with good pricing....

  • Which Holds Up Better on Trailer Wheel Powder Coat or Acrylic Paint
Powder coating is widely considered to be superior to acrylic paint in terms of resistance to chipping, scratching, and color retention. For a wheel application powder coat will definitely look better as well as hold up better than paint. Based on that the finish of the Dexstar part # AM20440 would hold up better than the Vesper part # MX34FR.

  • Can the PSI Rating of the Dexstar Rim # AM20440 be Exceeded Safely
The Dexstar Rim # AM20440 has a surprisingly low psi rating when compared to most trailer rims. Even though you would most likely be fine to inflate your tires to the 65 psi rating they call for I cannot safely recommend this. But I will say that if you do decide to exceed the psi rating for the wheel make sure you have valve stems that are capable of the higher capacity like the # AM20906 as typically the psi capacity for a wheel is limited by the valve stem.

  • Can I Change Trailer Tire Sizes Without Changing Wheels
I'll start this off by saying that you'll want to make sure that you have sufficient clearance from your trailer frame to determine if you can upgrade in tire size from 205/75r15 to 225/75r15; there is roughly 1.2" difference between the two tires but when you take into consideration the 3" to 4" required to allow for suspension clearance it may become an issue. Additionally, you're correct in assuming that upgrading to a 225/75r15 tire would required upgrading to a wider wheel-which it...

When it comes to matching a wheel with your 205/75/15 tire The Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel - 15 inch x 5 inch Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black Powder Coat # AM20440 will work. A 15 inch wheel would be your standard size, even though you can also see a 14 inch or 16 inch. The # AM20440 has a black powder coat over a e-coat primer that has an excellent corrosion resistance. The wheel capacity is 2,150 pounds. The wheel is made in the USA. I attached a review video link below.

Either the Americana Trailer Wheel Center Cap # AM90175 you referenced or the Trailer Wheel Center Cap # 319EZ-SS would work well as a center cap for the Americana Aluminum Split Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20440 since they both are designed for pilot diameters of 3.19 like what the wheel has. The main difference between the two center caps is that the # AM90175 has a black plug in the center and the # LHCS102-SI60C has a chrome finish on the center plug.

You'll need to have or install brake mounting flanges on your axle so that you can mount brakes. Make sure the brakes are rated appropriately for your axle capacity and that they use the same mounting pattern. You'll choose a matching left- and right-hand brake. • How To Stop Off-Road Trailers From Blowing 235/75-R15 Tires
I do have an option for you but a higher load range won't do you any good. The issue is that you're running radial tires which are great for highway but perform poorly off-road. I'd recommend simply switching to a bias ply, the Kenda ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST97. This way, you don't have to worry about fender clearance either as it's usually not as simple as just raising the fender. If you want new wheels as well, you could pair these with the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer...

  • Black Dexstar Wheel for Trailer that is 15 inch Diameter and 5 inch Wide
I have a similar option that is black from Dexstar that matches the same specs and dimensions but it's a mini mod style which has small circles on the rim instead of triangular spokes with the # AM20440. I think the mod style looks better than the spokes but that's just personal preference. I also checked to see if other manufacturers we carry have a black spoke wheel but they do not either. I attached a review video for the # AM20440 for you to check out as well.

  • Would the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel Fit a Trailer that Has a 5 Lug Bolt Pattern
The # AM20440 is a 15 inch diameter wheel that has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt patter so technically yes it would bolt up to your trailer as long as it has the same bolt pattern (most likely it does). It will not work with your current tire size though as it would require a 15 inch tire like the part # AM10245 which is a Load Range D radial tire that is sized 205/75R15. I attached a review video for this as well.

Yes, 15 x 5 inch trailer wheel # AM20440 is the exact same wheel as a Dexstar 17-347. We just use a different part number in our system for that wheel. I have linked a video review of this wheel for you.

  • Can OEM Rims on 5th Wheel Handle Greater Pressure of Higher Load Range Replacement Tires
It would be difficult to say with absolute certainty as I don't know the manufacturer or the wheel and tire size but typically a given rim will be able to handle the air pressure in any tire that will fit upon it, according to what our wheel and tire distributors have told us whenever this question comes up. The valve stem is typically the pressure sensitive portion of the assembly, so as long as you replace that you should be just fine. Keep in mind that increasing the load rating of...

A 205/75-15 size tire can actually fit on a wheel from 5 to 6-1/2 inches wide. With that being said, it's generally better to go with the thinnest wheel your tire fits on because that puts the weight on the wheel in the most vertical position so a 5 inch is marginally better than a 6 inch for your tires.
