Which Holds Up Better on Trailer Wheel Powder Coat or Acrylic Paint

Question:

Hello, After reading up on this rim and the Dexstar AM20440 I’m a bit confused - You have this wheel listed as economy and the Dexstar AM20440 as value - But this wheel says is has a better Acrylic paint that is better then any powdered coat wheel and will last longer and stand up to harsher road conditions - I have the Dexstar wheels and the gloss shine has faded away which is why I’m looking at this wheel - Would the black gloss Acrylic paint hold it’s gloss for longe then the powdered coated wheel? Any help would be great - thx

Expert Reply:

Powder coating is widely considered to be superior to acrylic paint in terms of resistance to chipping, scratching, and color retention. For a wheel application powder coat will definitely look better as well as hold up better than paint.

Based on that the finish of the Dexstar part # AM20440 would hold up better than the Vesper part # MX34FR.
