Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

My 3500lb leaf springs have failed for the second time so I upgraded to 4000lb springs, I had just upgraded my suspension with the CRE 3000 and wet bolt kit and along with the disc brake conversion I did last year so with the help from etrailer we are ready to put so more comfortable miles behind us. You can always count on the techs from etrailer to get you your parts and fix any mishaps that may come. Thanks etrailer.

I ordered four 4000# leaf springs and two sets of 4 brass bushings. The shipment arrived and the box was torn up. I opened the box to find 3 leaf springs and 1 set of bushings. I called etrailer and they shipped me the missing leaf spring and bushing set. I asked if they could overnight the items so that I could do the work as planned over a holiday weekend. They said that was not possible. So now I can only do one axle over the weekend. When I got to work I found 1 of the 4 bushings was damaged. I suppose it was smashed by one of the leaf springs. Now I will also have to order another set of bushings to replace the nylon bushing that I was forced to use. The leaf springs were already rusty so I assume the box sat in the rain somewhere. Initially I was blaming the shipper but the more I though about it, the problem is with etrailer. Who ships four 25lb+ leaf springs (loose, not even wired together) in a cardboard box with brass bushings? At a minimum the leaf springs should have been bound together, wrapped in plastic and packed in it's own box or even better wooden crate. This is the second item that I have received from Etrailer damaged. I I have bought all my trailer parts from etrailer over the years but now I will shop other stores.

It was great working with Odelia. Was glad to find the 8000lb. leaf springs for my 2017 Solitude fifth wheel rv. The shipping was great and arrived in 2 days with 2 left springs per box. Can't wait to get installed.

by:

Disappointed the leaf spring on a 8000 lb axle would have nylon bushings.
The brass bushings in the broken spring I removed were shot. I don't expect the nylon to last long.

by:

Springs are perfect and delivered quickly. The packaging did not fare well in shipment and shipper had taped the box back together the best they could. All parts are in fine shape with no damage.

by:

When the parts arrived the box was destroyed, lucky for me that my new leafs springs didn't suffer any real damage. the down side is that when I spoke with your Reps. I was told that these where made in the USA, only to receive them with made in CHINA stamped all over them with the DEXTER stamp next to P/N.

I think there was some confusion from the rep on the phone. Another company who sells wheels called Dexstar is an American made company. I am so sorry for the misunderstanding.

Great, know issues.

by:

I was told over the phone that these were dexter springs and made in America. They say made in China right on them. I also asked about equalizers and the person on the phone couldn’t help me. Not her fault she didn’t really have information.

We did have it listed incorrectly on the site that the springs were made in the US and we have updated the product pages for it. I will reach out to you to answer any questions that you may have on the equalizers.

by:

For the price they want for this spring I can't believe how bad the quality control is. One eye is smaller than the rest and required some modifications to get a new bushing inside. Speaking of, why don't these come pre-installed with bronze bushings? They're twice the price of other springs but look like they came from a junk yard, covered in rust and all scratched up. Hopefully they fit my Keystone Raptor toy hauler. The Dexter rep told me they would replace my 6 leaf 3,500 lb springs and would not flatten out.

The leaf spring comes with pre-installed nylon bushings and wanted to make sure the ones that you received had them. Did you replace them with bronze bushings? The eye diameters on both sides should have been the same size.

by:

Dexter leaf springs are said to be made in the USA.
Printed right on the springs says-MADE IN CHINA.

by:

etrailer is awesome. They delivered better than anticipated, ahead if time as usual. Happy customer, AGAIN!

Fyi: I discovered my my recently purchased Dexter leaf spring for 8000# axles is made in CHINA. So disappointed! etrailer did a great job with ship and delivery. Their ad 360 view photos conveniently blurred the China reference. Dexter touts USA made. Don’t be fooled as I was. Know what you’re getting.

I have gotten confirmation from the manufacturer that most of their products are made in the USA but for the leaf springs, they are currently made overseas.

by:

I rated it a 4-star because it arrives with plastic bushings.

by:

Delivery was a day early and the leaf springs were as advertised.

by:

Shipping was fast and item arrived with no problems.

by:

Great service and products delivered as scheduled. I will begin installation in about one week and attach pictures and give update.

by:

Box was damaged but the bushings didn't fall out the hole made by the springs. I've ordered a 2nd set and they were packed better and box was in great shape.

by:

Quality parts designed better than OEM, on time/early, no excuses!!

by:

etrailer was quick to reply to my inquiries and shipped the leaf springs that I required rapidly.

by:

Paula answered all my questions, she was outstanding!

by:

Made in China, so now I'm hoping they hold up better than my 7K springs did. They also come with plastic bushings, so have to order bronze separately. Size as advertised.

by:

Good and fast service
Thanks

by:

Built a little stronger than original. Got it in 2 days.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring that Could Work for 16 Jayco North Point 377RLBH
Looks like your 2016 Jayco North Point 377RLBH has 7k axles. We only have one leaf spring that would be rated high enough for that with the part # DX74XR which is rated for an 8k axle and is 24-7/8 inches long from bolt center to bolt center. We don't have a way to determine what length spring you have so you'd have to measure yours and see.

We don't carry any 7k axle leaf springs at this time but we do have the 8k leaf spring part # DX74XR which is a 7-leaf spring that is 24-7/8 inches in length. If the length matches what you need this would work well for you even though it has a slightly higher than needed capacity.

  • What Axle Capacity Leaf Spring to Increase Spring Capacity of 2018 Keystone Raptor 353TS

These are 24-7/8 inch in length and only option in this capacity. If you have a different length spring currently you would need to move the hangers.

  • Can 2022 Dutchmen Voltage Toy Hauler Use 24-7/8" Replacement Leaf Spring
Yes, a 24-7/8" leaf spring will work for your 2022 Dutchmen Voltage. If you took the # DX74XR and flattened it out it would measure 26-3/8" which is right in line with what you have. Assuming you have 8,000 lb axles on your toy hauler this would work well as a replacement. I have attached a link to all of our 24-7/8" long leaf springs for your reference.

  • How to Choose Correct Leaf Springs For 2011 Keystone Montana
I can help you determine the right replacement leaf springs for your 2011 Keystone Montana, though we don't have any way of knowing what specific ones you need. It's pretty easy though, as what you'll need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes, and you also need to know the weight rating of your axle. Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently have. For example,...

Hey Bill, sorry to hear about all the trouble you're having but after looking at the pictures you sent in I'd have to agree with the tech. I think you're going to need to up your springs to a beefier set like the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX74XR. The only way these would flatten would be if the trailer is overloaded, but since you're saying the trailer...
