I used one of those handheld oscillating saws to cut a perfect little square in the back bumper cover for access, and trim internal foam. Also just plan on buying a few plastic body clips, the wheel well ones will almost definitely break upon removal. The safety pin hole IS directly above the heat shield and you basically do need to get on the ground to access it. Just plan to only remove or install accessories when car is cold.
Thanks for the follow-up... just had the tow hitch installed last week. Everything went well / fit perfectly. We haven't tried it out just yet because we are waiting on our Bike rack. (Thule EasyFold XT 2).
Item was shipped very quickly. The items were packaged very well to prevent damage to the electrical items I also ordered.
The videos by etrailer showing the installation process were very helpful. I often refered to the videio to supplement the Curt instructions. This is not the first time I have ordered from etrailer and I have always be extremely satisfied with their service.
Great hitch with a perfect fit! Only advise would be to offer replacement plastic clips for bumper removal/install. The factory fasteners are really tough to salvage for reuse. It would be much easier for etrailer to include new clips, or at least offer a replacement set at a reasonable cost. Would make the install MUCH easier.
Price was one of the best in the internet. It arrived 24 hours later at my door to my surprise. Installed it right away that day after work. Bit of a project to take bumper off but that is the way the mini accepts the hidden hitch. 2007 s
I haven't installed the hitch on my 2009 Mini yet but I have been extremely impressed with the timeliness of fulfilling my order. I ordered it in the evening on Monday, it shipped 2 hours later and while I paid for 3 day shipping, it arrived Wednesday afternoon. Surpassed my expectations.
Fit exactly as described, images could always be better (maybe a combination of far away and close up?). Note that, at least on the 2010 Mini Cooper S Convertible we have, you have to trim ~1/3 of the foam bumper piece away. It notes "some trimming", so just be prepared. It does make for a nice snug fit, which I like.
Simple design and fits to oem holes and brackets. Make life easy.
