2013 MazdaCX-9

I happened upon this website when looking for a hitch receiver for my 2013 Mazda CX-9. From Google, I clicked on a hitch receiver that did NOT fit my car, but etrailer.com has an option to check if the part fits your car by entering in make, model, year, so I did that and it guided me to this product and a few others. I selected this model as I didn't need a wiring harness for my intended use.
I liked that I had free shipping as it's a heavy item, plus it arrived in 3 days. The same day I received the hitch receiver, I started to install it.

I did run into one small issue. It was either with one of the provided bolts or the holes on the receiver itself. Either the bolt was not threaded correctly or the holes on the hitch receiver were JUST a hair too small, because it just would NOT go in like the rest. Either way, I was able to rethread the bolt and provide enough pressure to the hitch receiver to get it to catch.

The thing I like most about this hitch receiver is that I didn't need to cut into the car itself for it to fit. Some vehicles require that, but for my CX-9 and this receiver, I was able to fit it without the need to cut anything out and still have easy access to the receiver.

I'm really happy with the product and have already used it with a cargo carrier across several states.

It seems this company is either really small or extremely customer service focused as each step of the way from purchase to delivery showed a picture and name of whoever was handling your product, which for some people is a big deal. Overall great product and company. Very pleased to finally have a hitch receiver on my car.

The trailer hitch arrived in just a few days and was well packaged. I won't be able to have it installed until mid to late September since so many places are short staffed, but the trailer hitch looks good to me.

Its still working great!

I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did used a jack to lift one side, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Mazda CX-9. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you.

It has performed as my intended use. I have only used this for attaching a bicycle rack and holding 4 bicycles. I have not used for towing at this point.

by:

This hitch worked just as I hoped! That kind of thing is rare nowadays. Thanks for providing a quality product.

by:
2013 MazdaCX-9

Not much you can say, fits great, I would not hesitate to purchase again. I read about many folks complaining about how hard it was to get the receiver around the heat shields. I was able to easily do it without raising car, you just have to study it for a second. You stick the backend up first and then rotate it in place by bringing the working end up to position.

A bit more direction in the box would have been helpful but not required. Like which side of the odd washers that they use face the bolt head. I remember etrailer mentioning something in the video I watched before buying but I didn't want to waste my time to clean up and go back to the house and find the install video.
On my 2013 CX-9 the back of the hitch makes it so the spare tire won't go in place without holding the tire at an angle as you crank it past the hitch...hold the side of the tire closest to the rear of the car higher.

The attached pictures also show the bike rack I bought here as well, attached to the new receiver on the back of 2013 CX-9. Seems I can't get in to see previous orders to get the bike rack info or write a review on it.

2007 MazdaCX-9

Was able to install in less than 30 minutes, with a good ratchet and socket set. The initial 'getting hitch into position' was a little of a geometry problem. We had to turn it upside down and come into slot around the spare tire just right, kinda tricky, but doable. Great product, would highly recommend thus company.

Its still solid and performing well. The wiring harness has started malfunctioning though, and will need replacing.

2007 MazdaCX-9

5 stars for the etrailer site. The product descriptions, tutorial videos and customer ratings are the best I have seen. The install video saved me a lot of time. The trailer hitch for my 2007 CX-9 was a little time consuming for a one person installation. REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE to give yourself as much access as possible. After spraying WD40 in the well nuts and cleaning them out, I was able to position the hitch and get a bolt started on each side. To make my life easier, I used the car jack and a 2X4 to hold the hitch in position to get the rest of the bolts started. I used a ratchet to tighten each bolt and finished with the torque wrench. My only issue was that I needed an open end wrench to tighten 2 of the bolts on the driver side next to spare tire cable carrier housing (see photo) to create the clearance to get the torque wrench on those bolts. I'm very happy with the hitch and etrailer, I have already placed another order for more accessories.

by:
2008 MazdaCX-9

Well designed, well made, and a perfect fit for my 2008 CX-9. I removed the spare tire to give myself as much clearance as possible, and I would recommend that if you cannot get your car up on a hydraulic lift. (I also suggest you get a second person to help, unless you are as stubborn and determined as me!) I am 5'7", weight 130lbs, but I completely installed this myself with the car on the ground. As others have noted, the heat shield on each muffler needs to be bent out of the way, but after installation they very easily bend back into shape. Nice trailer hitch, nice price, easy installation. Slam dunk.

2015 MazdaCX-9

My second hitch ordered from etrailer.com. It arrived very quickly. Super easy installation, and looks great. I comparison shopped and believe etrailer.com is a great value. I'm DIY, but if you're not and would like to learn, this is an EASY DIY. Didn't lower the spare tire during installation, but depending on your vehicle and experiences it might help. Having a floor jack or friend may help hold up the hitch.

Installing my new Curt trailer hitch to my old 2008 Mazda CX-9 was a breeze.
Before installing I watched 2 Curt installation video’s.
Some great tips.
Took about 30-40 minutes.
(I took out the spare tire for installation purposes.)

Looks great, hidden just behind the bumper so it does not smash my shins when loading into the hatch back.

I would recommend to my family & friends.

Shipping was fast and everything(Hardware) was included.
Simple and EZ is how I would sum up my experience.
Maybe you should change your name to EZtrailer.com....
Thanks.

Great product, fast delivery.

Was
installed in 30 minutes, which included jacking up the car and removing the spare tire to access the installation points.

Great! No issues at all since installation

by:

Perfect buying experience and the product has been great. Ordering was super simple and allowed me to avoid searching the internet far and wide to see what hitch would fit my vehicle. Delivery was prompt, installation was very straight-forward, which etrailer.com indicated it should be for this product. Hitch has been great- no issues whatsoever in the year that I've had it!

by:

The hitch assembly arrived in 1 week. The hitch fit perfectly and the holes lined up perfectly. Total assembly took about 30 minutes and that was only because the spare tire had to be removed and the welded bolts in the frame had to be prepped since they had 10 years of rust on them. I am very pleased with the product and ease of assembly and would highly recommend etrailer.com as they had the best price.

2015 MazdaCX-9

So my husband and I wanted to get a hitch installed on our 2015 Mazda CX-9. We looked around at different places and even asked the Mazda dealer, they quoted us an astronomical amount. After calling a few other places we were completely discouraged. So I got on youtube and searched how to install a hitch. Etrailer had a video on how to install a hitch for our vehicle. On their video they even gave the part number and gave step by step advice. I was convinced that my husband and I could put the hitch on ourselves. So we ordered a hitch and received it in a timply manner. It took my husband and I a total time of 30 to 40 minutes to put it on. Thank you Etrailer for the video and a great product. You helped our family save a great deal of money!

This is an excellent product for my 2015 Mazda CX-9. I use it for 2 different bike racks. I got the 2" receiver since this is a bigger car, and in case I ever need it, but right now I use a 2" to 1.25" receiver with a 6" extension. This allows for the 1.25 to fit and also adds some room so I can open the back hatch without it hitting the handlebars of the bikes. Installation: It took me about 30 minutes to bolt the hitch on alone with little difficulty, did not have to drop the exhaust! I recommend backing the car up to a curb so you have some more room to work.

This is for customer service and shipping only. I will review the installation after I get it done after Christmas.
The hitch was shipped in a very strong box with internal bracing to protect the contents. The harness and hardware kits were taped to the hitch and arrived in very good condition. Overall service from first question to actual order and delivery were excellent. I will use this company for these thing in the future. thanks for the great service.

  • Is Lowering the Spare Tire Needed to Install Curt Hitch on 2014 Mazda CX-9
The rear spare tire does not need to be lowered or removed in order to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13575 on a 2014 Mazda CX-9. The installation is very simple, simply lift the hitch up into position and tighten the hardware then you're done. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75531 does not require the spare tire to be lowered either.

We can offer you a choice of either 1-1/4-inch Class II or 2-inch Class III hitches for your 2015 Mazda CX-9. When there is a choice I always recommend the higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type since the cost is not too different. Of the options available I suggest the Curt # 13575. This hitch installs without drilling and includes all required mounting hardware. Written instructions, a helpful article and an install video are all linked for you. • Can I Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2010 Mazda CX-9
Your 2010 Mazda CX-9 does have trailer wiring available to install that will allow you to power the lights on a trailer. I recommend using the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118520, which is an easy plug and play installation with the plugs available behind the trim panels in the cargo area. • Difference Between Curt and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches for 2012 Mazda CX-9
Other than the difference in brand/manufacturer, the Curt # 13575 and the Draw-Tite # 75531 for your Mazda CX-9 are pretty close to identical. Between the two options I do recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13575 because the hitch itself is made in the USA and their powder coat seems to last a lot longer. Other than that the Curt hitch does feature a square crosstube as opposed to the round tube design on the Draw-Tite, but this is just an aesthetic difference and doesn't affect performance/reliability...

  • Tip for Getting Last Bolt Started When Installing Hitch and Holes Don't Seem to Line Up
Here's what you'll need to do. Loosen all of the 7 bolts you have threaded currently to the point the hitch can move around a bit yet all of the bolts are still started. Now move the hitch around so that the last bolt hole can be started. Once you get all of the bolts started then you can torque them all down.

  • Is it Important to Use all of the Installation Bolts When Installing a Curt Hitch
It is VERY important that you use all of the included installation hardware when you install the Curt Hitch # 13575 on your vehicle. If the bolts are not wanting to line up I would recommend you loosen all of the installation bolts so that the hitch can be moved around and positioned so that the bolts line up and you can thread the smaller bolts in as well. Sometimes in shipping the install brackets of a hitch can get slightly bent. As long as there are no flex marks on the hitch or chipped paint from the hitch flexing you can bend the hitch back to get it to line up. Otherwise it can be helpful to start with all of the install bolts loose so that you can first get them all started. Once they are all started you can then torque them down to spec.

  • Will Curt Trailer Hitch from 2009 Mazda CX-9 Fit 2019 Mazda CX-9
Your brand new 2019 Mazda CX-9 will require a new trailer hitch. The Curt Class III Hitch # 13575 you currently have installed on your 2009 CX-9 is only compatible with this vehicle up through the 2015 model year. Based on my research it looks like the CX-9 went through a generational change for the 2016 model year and there were enough differences to the rear of the vehicle that a new hitch fitment was needed.
