Helpful Expert Reply:
We can offer you a choice of either 1-1/4-inch Class II or 2-inch Class III hitches for your 2015 Mazda CX-9. When there is a choice I always recommend the higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type since the cost is not too different. Of the options available I suggest the Curt # 13575.
This hitch installs without drilling and includes all required mounting hardware. Written instructions, a helpful article and an install video are all linked for you. The only special tool needed is a torque wrench like # ALL944001 which is necessary to ensure you tighten the fasteners to the correct specs.
For towing you'll need a ball mount like # C45030, a hitch pin like # C21500 and a hitch ball such as # 63845 which fits a 2-inch trailer coupler. If you need a different ball mount to keep the trailer level you can refer to the linked article for help determining this.
For a wiring harness you can use kit # 56016 from Curt. I linked an installation video to help you. This harness provides a 4-pole flat trailer connector that carries lighting signals to the trailer. Be sure to check your owner's manual before towing to ensure you do not exceed the vehicle's capacity.
