Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

Poor packaging and finish. Packaging was poor, resulting in several scratches. Additionally, it showed up with rust spot from the factory, covered with a sticker and several scratches. Needs to be repainted.

Yikes, that is such a disappointment. We have two options, I can send you over to customer service for them to get an altogether new hitch. Or I can send over this information over to our customer service to see about a paint credit for the scratches and you can paint over the scratches. [I have a link below with some more information on how to cover those scratches to prevent rust]

Installation was easy, still holding strong 1 year later. Mounted to use with Kuat bike rack. Carried 2 full suspension mountain bikes across the country and then some. Would recommend to a friend.

The hitch looks great. I love the way it fits just under the rear bumper. It took me about 4 hours to install, with multiple breaks to view the very helpful video provided by etrailer. The video was amazing. Not sure I could have installed the hitch without it.

Easy easy easy to install. This eco hitch has officially made the 2015 Honda fit a motohauler. The video was so helpful.

Fits great on my 2015 Honda Fit! I was worried that it would scrape the ground going out of my driveway (there is a slight incline) but it does not! It sits higher than the regular, cheaper 1 1/4" hitches do and is more hidden. It was also very easy to install. My husband did it at home and he is not mechanically inclined. I love it!

2016 Honda Fit

Look, the install is rated at 10/10 difficulty, and they aren't wrong. Had to take off the bumper cover and impact bar, and wrenching some of the bolts was a royal pain, even with a nice socket set. The whole process took about 2 hours.

But the end result is beautiful and sturdy. In the end I'm that much more attached to my hitch having been through the process together. Great product.

A year in and Im still super happy with it. It has held the 2 bike rack super solid since the day I installed it. Heck, my wife just got the car stuck on a railroad tie and the hitch appears to have made it out in one piece.

Thanks for the follow-up. The Hitch has become quite the conversation piece and I've let folks know where to get one.

Looks great because it's hidden which also doesn't compromise the already low ground clearance of my Honda Fit.

The 2" receiver also allows me to not have to deal with adaptors and my bike rack, which I carry two electric mountain bikes on, fits perfectly tight... without any extra movement an adapter would undoubtedly cause.

BTW, I also ordered/installed all the parts needed to tow the whole rig behind my Class A motorhome. Super clean and as lightweight (saves fuel) as possible.

2015 Honda Fit

Much easier than 10/10 installation difficulty. For reference, I'm comparing this to recent installs on a 2015 Toyota Sienna and 2011 Chrysler Town and country. My lessons which might help the next installer:
1 -Removal of the bumper cover requires a Torx T30 which isn't a common "household" tool, but are available inexpensively at the big-box stores. Plan ahead and have this for the job. The stock mud flaps have 2 Phillips screws which are difficult to access with the wheels on the car. A "stubby" screwdriver or a "right angle" screwdriver helps if you don't want to remove the wheels (and jack the car- which introduces another level of time and equipment.
2. The plastic "expanding rivet" bumper fasteners, like most, are easy to break when removing, especially if one hasn't had experience with them. They're not as easy to find, though CLOSE MATCHES are available at the auto parts store if you're lucky. Internet searching recommended and spares in hand would make "buttoning up" the finished project a snap. 2-4 spare correct plastic fasteners from Eco-hitch in the kit would be deluxe service and reasonable given the price.
3. I saw a YouTube video which showed HOW to tug on the bumper cover to release it from it's body clips between the tail light and wheel well. This can be disoncerting to those who haven't done it before -and it takes some sensitivity as well as a firm tug. As with most modern cars, a few tabs and clips can break and you'll be OK but it's misery for perfectionists and generally a bummer to break something. The body clip is available online inexpensively, but tearing the tabs on the bumper cover would be an expensive repair if it required replacing and repainting a bumper cover. Find the video and you'll be fine- just don't grab and yank!
4. Exhaust did NOT require being lowered on my 2015 Fit LX 100% stock. Doing so would be as easy as sliding off the rubber mounts from plainly visible hanger posts, spray with soapy water to make that easier if needed.
5. I think 13mm socket takes off the 6 bumper bar bolts.
6. Chase the threads with a m8. x 1.25 tap if they're dirty or rusty
7. New bolts go in easy with a second person or perhaps a bucket and blanket can help to hold and align the holes in the hitch and bumper bar. 20 lb/ft, if you don't have a torque wrench, is NOT super tight! Try to "feel" for when the lock washer is compressed and resistance will increase suddenly. a 1/4 turn past that should be 20+ foot pounds- at least that seemed to be the case with my install using the torque wrench.
8. Cutting the bumper cover. The diagram is straightforward but doesn't clearly show where on the bumper to cut. Pics of completed installs make that obvious. My experience as a hobbyist metalworker and fabricator helped with simple strategies for accurately finding a centerline and creating cutlines, but a TEMPLATE would be AWESOME (EcoHitch please!). The bumper cover inner mount holes ARE symmetric and could be used as template reference points to make placing the cutlines accurately. Finally, the diagram shows a (?trapezoidal) cut with 3 straight lines. If the top angle were radiused, the included welting would fit better. A paper template with radiused cut lines would not only speed the process for many but also reduce the chances of a botched cut- the clean install and location of this hitch is it's strongest suit after all!
9. Remember to bend the bumper bar tabs as instructed - the hitch installs simply "sandwiched" between the car body and bumper bar and this is all nicely accessible WITHOUT laying underneath the car and "bench pressing" the hitch (you'll do that for most other hitch installs if you don't have a lift).
10. Lots of little details - every one of them has to do with removing a Honda bumper cover with Honda fasteners. The Ecothitch itself bolts on in less than 5 minutes. An inexpensive improvement to the kit from EcoHitch would be 1- a bumper cover cutline template. EcoHitch or erailer might also include a "consider this kit" with 4 spare plastic bumper rivets, a t30 bit, and a right-angle Phillips screwdriver.

The best hitch available. An [online] video is excellent for installation instructions. Used the paper instructions for the torque settings. It will be used often for a bike rack. Happy with it.

  • How To Use 2" Thule Bike Rack On 2015 Honda Fit
In order to use a bike rack with 2" shank on a 2015 Honda Fit such as the Thule T2 Classic you will need to use the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7273 which is the only available 2" hitch option. The EcoHitch has a super hidden design so it will look very nice on the back of the vehicle. It does actually not use any sort of class rating but class III would be most appropriate if one had to be assigned That said, so long as you are under the 300 lb tongue weight rating...

EcoHitch is very secretive about the install instructions they offer for their hitches like the # 306-X7273 that fits your 2016 Honda Fit but I am going to email you a copy of the instructions to you in a separate email. The install is not overly difficult but it will take a reasonable amount of time to pull off. A Class II hitch accessory like a bike rack will not fit into a Class I trailer hitch. There is a stop built into Class I hitch tubes to prevent this. You'd need a Class I bike...
