Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I bought thi hitch for my 2008 Subaru Legacy Wagon. The hitch fits perfectly into the factory mounting bolts, easy and quick intalation, all hardware came in the package. Also the price for this part was $[XX] less than anybody else offers.

Subaru Outback Wagon

Had my garage remove a very rusty older bar from my '06 Outback and fit this one so I could attach a new Thule MTB rack to 2" hitch. It's been rock solid and has worked perfectly.

by:
2008 Subaru Outback Wagon

Great hitch and delivery came as promised, very quickly. It was a bit tricky installing - being careful and thorough, it took 2 hours. The hitch is strong and will hold 400 pounds, plenty for the 73 pound e-bikes we have.

by:
2009 Subaru Outback Wagon

Fit was perfect and the install video was clear and helpful! Pictures also show tongue for bike rack.

The hitch fit our 2008 Subaru outback wagon perfectly. Installation was straightforward and fairly quick.
It has been in use for a year and we are completely satisfied with the purchase!

Fairly easy install, even just using a jack. Just followed the video and it took me about 90 minutes with some help from my son. It's hard to imagine doing this without an extra set of hands when actually installing the rack in place, but I'm a B- mechanic and I pulled it off. The rack seems super solid, and if the two previous racks I've ordered from etrailer are any guide, this thing will probably outlast the car it's attached to

by:

Works great I've used it a bunch for camping and pulling my trailer for the dirtbike

by:

Fit perfectly instructions were clear, only issue I found is I like torque specs and it didn't come with any also nothing about using lock tight on bolts but I would recommend it

2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

Over the past 3 months I have been fixing and replacing parts on my, new to me, 05 Subaru Outback. Sway bar links, lower control arm bushings, driveline, tires, struts... and a taller hitch. Of all the products I've ordered and replaced none have been as easy to install as this hitch. Etrailer provided a YouTube video all the hardware bolts, nuts, spacers needed to do the job. They contacted me via email after my order was placed after it was shipped and after it arrived. Very customer oriented and well designed product. From a retired engineer, this hitch is simple strong and well crafted. I couldn't be happier.

Great trailer hitch, getting ready to order one for my new Jetta sport wagon.

We bought a car for our daughter and needed to go from WA state to AZ. Needed to pull a small trailer with stuff. Pretty easy install for me. I had so the tools necessary and it towed like a breeze the whole way. Unfortunately didn't get any pics, but it looks very good. Light wiring was a but of a challenge, but this receiver hitch was perfect.

by:

The install was quite surprisingly simple. Thanks for the installation video etrailer! Really like the 2” receiver which seems be more accessorized in the market. The strength of this hitch and appearance (for the money) is superior to the smaller receiver offering.

by:

Very solid hitch. Easy to install (with some help from someone far handier than I am). Installation was simple, just 5 bolts. Hardest part was lowering the exhaust assembly. I would recommend this company to friends, George emailed me personally when the hitch was delivered.

1 yr. update - Tow hitch worked great. Just sold the car, now I need another tow hitch. Be contacting you guys soon.

by:

The hitch arrived so fast! I unboxed it in the driveway. I had it installed within three hours of arrival. The fit was perfect. The installation simple and straight-forward. The quality was superb. All necessary items were included. I had reviewed the installation video so I didn't even reference the included instructions. Overall I am very impressed.

It has been wonderful since I installed the hitch. I use for towing a kayak trailer for a local clean up volunteer group. Its been no issues whatsoever. Unfortunately, my car was totaled and lost the vehicle and the hitch. I am looking for another Outback and if it doesnt come with the hitch, I know where to buy again!

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Easy to install on my '06 Outback H6 3.0., happy to have a 2" hitch available. Just had to pop a few rubber exhaust hangers to get it in. Considerably cheaper than trailer rental place shipped. Bought it mostly to mount a bike rack, but it has been used to tow a 'lil trailer several times. End of the hitch is about 3.5" recessed behind the rear bumper line, so pretty low visibility when not in use if that matters to you. I would've designed it to mount on top of the rear tow loop as opposed to under it to get that extra 1-1.5" of ground clearance available to reduce my bike rack bottoming out on the steepest of driveways.

by:

Got this hitch for my 05 Outback XT. I got it mainly for my bike rack carrier, but also so I can tow a small utility trailer in the future. Hitch was very easy to install (did it by myself). Had to tap out 2 holes due to rust, but other than that, install was smooth. I really like how it looks on my car. Had a few paint chips (I’m assuming from shipping or storage) that I had to touchup after I put the hitch on but that was no big deal. Customer service was awesome, I give a shout-out to Rose G for being awesome and helping me out. I would Definitely recommend etrailer to anyone for there trailer and hitch needs.

# 75560 Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 2" Receiver, for 2006 Subaru Outback. Video for 2008 model has good tips. However, 2005 and 2006 are different. The same 4 capped factory nuts are there, but only the two rear-most are used. Further back, a bolt must be removed from the angle iron bracket holding the rear bumper on. One on each side. Toss the bolt and use longer bolt, supplied. Before removing the bumper bolt, use a crow bar to do some bending. Very close fit between rear-most hitch anchor points and bumper bracket. Mine didn't fit. Car was too wide and hitch too narrow. Barely. Vertical part of bumper bracket angle iron needs to be bent in. Leave bracket bolts in to insure the right part is stressed and bent. Two inches of the forward most end of the angle iron has a gap between horizontal and vertical. -They don't meet at the corner. Helps in bending the vertical. 2005 install video by etrailer was very helpful. Theirs fit right out of the box.

by:
2005 Subaru Outback Wagon

I found the information on the etrailer site to be very informative and helpful. Found the install video to be "right on" except that I needed to drop both of my mufflers to get the hitch into position (2005 Subaru Outback LL Bean Edition 3.0). Other than that, the install went as described in the video, and very close to the estimated time. I've included a few pics. Very happy with the customer service from etrailer. Shipping was fast, communications regarding my order were excellent, and the product is a quality hitch exactly as described. Thank you!

by:

Installation was as quick as described.

However, there was some amount of work to remove the mud guards in order to drop the muffler system. Removal took some work since 3 different fasteners were used.

I was working at home alone using a set of ramps to access the rear of the car, and it took some work to:
1. lift the hitch assembly into place. Hint, lift one side and loosely fit a bolt, then do the other side. and
2. lifting the muffler system into place required a set of straps attached to the roof rack and progressively raising each side.

Maybe a younger person would find it easier, but it is either a two person job, or it requires some thought and experiment.

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon

Received products in a couple days from ordering. Everything was packed well and intact. Installation was super easy after watching the video a couple times. It probably took me more time to figure out where the lift points were on my Subaru than to actually attach the hitch. The installation kit included all the bits I needed and contained clear information (especially in combination with the video). Will absolutely recommend the DrawTite hitch and eTrailer!

  • Recommended Hitch Receiver for a 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon That Can Pull 1,000 lbs
The trailer hitch receiver that I recommend for your 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75560 which fits all models except the Sport. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening that has a 400-lb Tongue Weight (TW) capacity and can pull up to 4,000 lbs (Gross Towing Weight or GTW). In an online version of your owner's manual it stated that the max TW that your Outback Wagon can handle is 200 lbs and the GTW is 3,000 lbs for a 3.0 liter...

  • Trailer hitch, Ball Mount, Ball, and Wiring for a 2006 Subaru Legacy Sedan
First, lets look at the trailer hitches for your 2006 Subaru Legacy sedan. There are both Class II and Class III trailer hitches available. Any time there are different Class hitches available for a vehicle I always recommend going with the higher Class. This is because the higher Class hitches have a higher capacity and have more accessory options. With a Class II hitch you are going to also be limited to using one specific ball mount so that makes it harder to choose the proper ball...

Most mufflers are hung on small black rubber hangers. You will simply need to pop these off, and lower the mufflers. It will help if you use some spray lubricant prior to removal of the hangers. The Draw-Tite Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch part # 75560, is custom fit to some model years of the Subaru Legacy and Outback, and will attach to four pre-drilled holes with existing weld nuts on the vehicle frame. If you have the Outback Sport model then there is not a hitch available at this time.

For your 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon, using a hatch mounted bike carrier is not recommended because the vehicle is unable to support the weight of the carrier. What this means is that the best option would be to use trailer hitches and a hitch mount bike carrier. If you want to explore this option then for the CR-V you can use hitch # 75547.
