2017 Honda Civic

Had the hitch attached this morning. My previous bike rack wouldn't fit on my new 2017 civic because of the double spoiler. And because of the sun roof a hitch system seemed like the way to go. It seems great. Great customer service too. Prompt friendly, knowledgeable answers to emails. The Swagman G-10 bike rack is solid and was fairly easy to assemble. Make sure you have an adjustable crescent wrench. Loaded on the bikes and took a quick spin around the block and nothing fell off. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review is the fact the lock cover on the locking bolt has already fallen off. But I don't think this is a big deal. Also it doesn't come with a lock cable.

After owning the trailer hitch for about one year, l can say that it’s perfect, no issues and still looking like new.
This is the third trailer hitch l bought and installed from etrailer, and l’ completely satisfied with all of them, so much that l’ve been recommending etrailer.com to y friends and customers.

Install went fairly smoothly with other reviews advice. Used plastic ramps to back the car on. A second person helps a great deal. The fishing wire worked perfectly. WD40 on the rubber and a crowbar worked wonders. The heat shields do go on before the hitch, but the cut suggested does not leave room to access the hole to fish the screws through. They got scrapped. Attached is a pic of the extra tools you will need.

by:
2018 Honda Civic

The hitch was delivered promptly and the installation was straightforward. My only advice to do-it-yourselfers is to make sure you have some good sharp bits for drilling into your car's frame.

by:
2016 Honda Civic

Honda coupe 2016. The hitch was a perfect fit and looks good. You do not need to enlarge the hole as indicate. It is impossible to drill holes above muffler with reg drill get a offset drill adapter from [retailer].

Amazing fitment on my vehicle its as if it were factory spec. I was skeptical at first but the installation was very straight forward and comprehensive! I can’t recommend this company enough and on top of all that they have outstanding customer service! A+

Fantastic product, I have little to no experience with working on cars and was able to get it installed in about 3 hours! So happy to finally have it.

This is not the first Curt trailer hitch I buy. I bought and installed on my driveway both this one and one on my son's 2017 Honda Civic, and on my 2016 Subaru Forester. They were very easy to install by myself. I cheated with a wood box to keep it up, otherwise it's a two person job.a wide jack would be great. My son hauled a small UHaul trailer from Florida to LA when he moved. He had an easy time with it, though a lighter trailer like a double jet sky or motorcycle one would be ideal for that small car. He is not using it in the city, so he removed it. But he made sure to carefully leave the bolts hanging, and replaced the bolts. That way he will be able to install it again. You see, the bolts are dropped inside the square bar. if you would push it, you'd have a problem retrieving it. If you plan to remove it like that, I recommend to keep the wires that help you feed the bolts, and also the piece of aluminum heat shield that you need to cut. It's above the Muffler. That way you could replace it with aluminum duct tape. Oh, yeah, and the hitch bar? I bought one that wrapped up around the bumper just a tad. Anything lower will scratch on a driveway because the car is pretty low.

Honda Civic

A Very heavy duty hitch made of steel that is probably 4 times as thick as anything it is bolted to! Although most of the work can be done alone, there are a couple times during install. that another person is needed to hold one side of hitch because it is heavy. I don't have access to a lift, but using my old ramps got it up high enough to work on. I mounted on a Civic 2 dr. Coupe with single exhaust, so was a little different than the video, and a little harder to drill around the muffler I think, but was do-able. A short "step" drill bit really helped in enlarging the holes to 1/2". End result is very sharp and should work very well.
P.S. Shipping was very fast as usual with this company...Thanks!

2018 Honda Civic

I've had my hitch for about a year, and I'm very happy with it! Very easy to put my Swagman XTC-2 bike rack on and off. I had the hitch installed on a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback. One thing that drew me to this hitch is that the installation process didn't require cutting my car's bumper in any way. I took it to a local auto mechanic to have it installed, and they did a great job. The ground/road clearance has been great... no issues with dragging or scraping. I definitely recommend this product!

I have been using my hitch for about a year now. It's worked great with my bike rack which I have on the majority of the time. The bike rack is about 50 lbs and I've been on a couple long trips (including a 2000 mile trip from NY to FL and back) with no issues to report. Installation is a little tedious and required cutting back the heat shields which wasn't a big deal just not as simple as installation on some other models. Overall, I am very happy with the hitch as it has met all expectations.

Honda Civic

This is a great hitch, easy to assemble and after a year there is no signs of rust.
I own Honda Civic Coupe and even though is an Sportty looking vehicle, the hitch is discreetly install. It’s not sticking out or making the car lose its appeal when I’m not using the bike rack. .

The best part is the customer support, George is quick to respond to any questions, shipping was a breeze.
This is the second hitch I purchased from E-Traile.
Both excellent pieces.

by:

Trailer hitch was mostly great BUT if I had it to do over again I would have moved it more forward on the car frame then suggested. I had to buy an extension to make my bike rack work/be foldable.. Quality of item is high.

by:
2017 Honda Civic

Anyone doing the home install needs a couple tips. You will need a 90° drill. A regular drill with a drill bit will not fit between the muffler and the frame. Borrow one before you start the job. Next, INSTALL the heat shield BEFORE putting the hitch in place. The directions totally missed this step. After trimming the heat shield it gets sandwiched between the gas tank and hitch.
I opened the existing hole to 1/2" on both sides, installed the hitch, then drilled out the rear holes.
For fishing the bolts: Put the curly end thru the 1/2" hole and fish it to the larger hole in the frame, then add the alum. block and thread the bolt on to the wire.
This sounds confusing until your under the car and then it will make sense , I hope.
Also, use a water/soapy spray on the rubber exhaust hangers. They'll slide off and on soo
much easier.

Unsure if it would fit the original 2 muffler system that comes stock with the civic sport

This hitch was a necessity for my time car. It helps move bikes and other beach items for vacation.

A little complicated to install. A car lift is probably the best way to go about it. Product was great otherwise. Thank you!

  • Can a Trailer Hitch be Installed on a 2017 Honda Civic Type R
The only possible way to affix a trailer hitch to your 2017 Honda Civic Type R would be with custom fabrication as you mentioned. You could use the base and mounting flange of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11463 and modify the receiver tube to hang down below the center mounted exhaust tips but this would obviously void the warranty. The only way I can see possible to mount the hitch would be to position the receiver tube under the exhaust tips as I mentioned but you have to consider...

  • How To Use Thule T2 Pro XTR with 2 Inch Shank on 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
In order to use the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH83JV which has a 2" shank with a 1-1/4" receiver tube you will will need an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter part # HT5R. That said, the use of a hitch adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% so you will need to keep this in mind. The trailer hitch I recommend using for a 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11463 because it offers the easiest installation....

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2017 Honda Civic Coupe
No, but there is one that does so long as your 2017 Honda Civic Coupe doesn't have center exhaust. It is the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C11463. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Honda with included hardware. It is also a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. If you have the center exhaust there are no hitches available for your Civic Coupe. The Curt Trailer Hitch item # C11391 you were looking at stopped fitting Civic's in 2015. • Hitch/Bike Carrying Options for 2017 Honda Civic Si Sedan
Unfortunately, none of our vendors manufacture a hitch that's compatible with the 2017 Honda Civic Si with the center exhaust. The presence of the exhaust would require that the receiver wrap around the underside of the exhaust which would place the receiver tube too close to the ground. It would also look pretty bad. If you were needing the hitch to carry bikes, the only bike carrying option we offer for the Civic Si Sedan would be the SeaSucker Komodo, part # 298-BK1910-BK that uses...

  • Bike Rack and Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback
The best option we have for carrying a bike rack on a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback is a hitch mounted option. Hitches are the most secure, easiest to load, do not affect fuel mileage, don't touch any painted surfaces, easiest to lock bikes and racks to and are not the most expensive route (that's roof rack). Trunk racks aren't quite as secure and they touch the vehicle paint so they aren't my first pick. Plus there are no trunk fits for the hatchback 2018 Civics. So a hitch option like the...
