The unique ball-bearing locking system on this Lifelong hitch lock is supremely easy to use. When you pop the deadbolt onto the end of the pin, the integrated ball bearings engage the lock automatically.
This ball-bearing system also ensures that the structural integrity of the pin is maintained throughout. A typical padlock-style hitch lock has a significant taper at the end of the pin where the lock snaps into place. This taper weakens the pin, making it easier to break or cut. Because the ball bearings are responsible for engaging the lock on this Lifelong lock, no taper is needed. So, the pin diameter is the same along the entire length of the lock. The result is a hitch lock that is strong, durable and highly tamper resistant.

Today, we'll be reviewing part number BD580400. This is the Bulldog Lifelong trailer hitch receiver lock for 2-inch hitches. The bent pin-style trailer hitch receiver lock is used in place of your standard pin and clip to help prevent theft of a ball mount or hitch mount accessory. It's going to allow you to secure your accessory successfully inside of your trailer hitch. The ball bearing lock system provides maximum security and ease of use. All you need to do is pop the deadbolt onto the end of the pin, and the lock engages automatically simply just by pushing down on this portion here. Then to disengage that, simply take one of the two keys, twist it until that end pops back out, and then, the lock is disengaged from the pin. The solid steel pin offers superior strength and durability, has a nice chrome plating so it is going to resist rust and corrosion. This system also features a plastic cap that covers the key slot to help prevent corrosion in the locking mechanism. It comes with two high-security square keys.
Again, this is designed to work with a 2-inch x 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. The pin diameter is going to be 5/8 inch, and the span of the pin from the lock mechanism to the bend is going to be 3-1/4 inches. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how this would work. We have our hitch here, and we want to secure our ball mount today, so we'll place that inside the hitch until our pin holes are in line with each other. Then, we'll take our pin and place it through. We can take our lock and place it on the other side, push in to secure it in place, and then install the dust cap. Just like that, everything is installed and we're ready to go. That's going to do it for today's review of the part number BD580400.

I ordered this locking pin because it looked to be the strongest available. I've used others that I've never really trusted because they were hollow with a solid shaft inside or either the locking mechanism or opposite end seemed weak. This one is solid and it seems the lock will hold. The description claims it is "supremely easy to use". I found this to be a bit optimistic and it takes a little juggling to hold the shaft and the the locking mechanism still and push the pin in while holding the key in the unlock position but it is easier than some. My only real complaint is that the plastic cap that fits over the keyhole fits loosely and will probably come off right away. A little retaining strap would at least keep it from getting lost when it comes off. Other than that, this locking hitch pin is a great buy and I recommend it.

Great piece of kit. I just got it but I'm sure it will last. No worries about the cover either. I had a tough time working it off mine so it is well sealed, not just a slip off piece of plastic, but a conforming rubber cap. I finally figured out just to act like I didn't care and it came off and went back several times.
Easy to use. We though it was a great idea that there is a soft plastic cover to keep grit from getting into the lock. We have greater confidence when we travel knowing our hitch is secure. Great product & good price.
Rubber cover for the key lock is rather clumsy. Not sure if it’s a temporary cover For packaging or supposed to be used during the life of the product. Otherwise great product

works well. like that it has a rubber piece on end to guard the lock against rain. its long enough to also use with a pin to secure - wish it had both options in case you didn't want to lock it always.

Appears to be nice quality and fits perfect on my 2011 Tacoma. Plastic end cap doesn't fit very tight and I'm sure will come off in time. Always a pleasure doing business with etrailer

The chrome is pitting and has rust starting on it . Poor quality!
