Video Transcript for Review of Shocker Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - HD Air Receiver With Cushioned Drawbar - SHK84ZR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch with this Cushioned Drawbar Mount. This heavy-duty, shock-absorbing hitch features an airbag and cushioned bump stops that are going to help provide a smooth and comfortable ride while limiting chucking and jerking to give you better control of your tow vehicle and trailer, helping to extend the life of your truck and trailer by protecting them from unnecessary wear and tear, and reducing noise and rattle that's common when towing with standard ball mounts. This is going to fit your two-inch hitch receiver, and this is going to hook your trailer to your tow vehicle with this included cushioned drawbar mount. And this drawbar attachment has a one-inch hole to accommodate a variety of towing needs, and the bump stops here are going to help soften jerking before it reaches your tow vehicle. So this is going to be perfect for hay wagons, towing hay wagons, and anhydrous tanks, and other farm applications.

The mount itself is zinc plated to prevent rust. I do wanna point out that this is not to be used with a hitch ball. The maximum gross towing weight is 20,000 pounds, and the tongue weight is 2,000 pounds. But do remember that a towing setup is always limited by its lowest rated component, whether that be your vehicle, your hitch, or another component. Now, included with this are two easy-to-remove pins and clips.

We have these large rings here. Let me move this here so you can see that a little bit better, these large rings that are going to be very easy to grab onto. I can fit four of my fingers through these rings easily. So no more fumbling with small hitch pin heads. And not only do we have those large rings, but we have these large safety clips that's going to make securing the clips very easy.

So I'm just going to go ahead and give you a brief demonstration of how easy this is to adjust. So as you saw, I went ahead and removed my clips. I'm gonna go ahead and remove my pins. These are going to slide through those holes pretty easily, and I'm just going to adjust this to a slightly lower position. So you see how easy that is to change and adjust, so you're not going to be struggling in the back of your vehicle.

However, I did realize, before our time together, that sometimes these clips can be a little bit difficult to slide back in with this cushioned drawbar mount. But it looks like it depends on where you have it positioned. Sometimes the clips can be a little bit tricky to slide in, but it looks like we had no problem there. Now, this does have a drop of about a 1/2 inch to 3 1/2 inches. The inside width of this channel is 3 3/4 inches. And then, the distance between our vertical adjustment holes is an inch on center. Now, you can mount any shock or hitch accessory, including their pintle hook, clevis pin, and drawbar attachments, in the channel to hook up even more trailers. Of course, all of those attachments are sold separately, but you can find them under the Related Product section on this product page. Now, this air hitch works like a teeter-totter with the airbag on one end and your trailer coupler on the other end. And as your trailer exerts force downward, the unit is going to pivot and the airbag is going to absorb the energy. And when your trailer jerks backward or pushes forward, these two cushioned bump stops are going to reduce the force, giving you a smoother ride. Now, this airbag is easily adjustable. For heavier loads, you're just going to add more air, and we do have a valve with a cap here, and you can just simply add air for heavier loads. And then, for lighter loads, you're just going to simply let the air out, and then, of course, replace the cap. And to determine the correct amount of air to use, you are just going to simply hook your trailer up, and then load the trailer the way that you are going to tow it, and then add air until these bump stops begin to compress. Once they begin to compress, then you should have the right amount of air in your airbag for your load, and then you're gonna be ready to go. On the other side here, I wanted to show you that this does have a Zerk fitting at the pivot point that's going to make lubricating very easy, so very easy maintenance. This is made here in the USA of a grade 50 steel-plate construction and a cold-rolled steel shank to provide maximum durability. It's also shot blasted and powder coated to prevent rust. Now, just some measurements that you might find helpful that I took before our time together, looking at our hitch pin hole, that is 5/8 of an inch. And the distance from the first hitch pin hole to the center of the drawbar attachment hole is about 13 1/2 inches. And then, the distance from the second hitch pin hole to the center of the drawbar attachment hole is about 14 1/2 inches. And then, the distance from the second hitch pin hole to the end of the shank is about 2 3/4 inches. And the distance below the receiver tube, you should have five inches from the bottom of the receiver tube. Now, going back to our hitch pin holes, this does not include a pin and clip, so that is sold separately. And so if you don't already have a compatible pin and clip, you would have to pick one of those up. However, this is an investment you are making, so I would recommend taking a look at the InfiniteRule Locking Pins for Shocker Hitch Ball Mounts for 2-inch and 2 1/2-inch hitches, and you will get three locking pins, one to secure your air hitch to the back of your vehicle, and then two to secure your attachment to the Shocker air hitch itself. If you're interested in checking those out, I have included on your screen the item number for those locking pins to help secure your investment. Now, just some additional installation tips that I think will be very helpful to you. This does require a minimum of seven inches of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost portion of your tow vehicle. The receiver opening should be flush with the bumper or protruding from the rear of the vehicle for best fit. Finally, a two-inch Shocker air receiver will not fit a 2 1/2-inch hitch, even with a reducer sleeve, as trucks with 2 1/2-inch hitches have deeper frames. And a 2 1/2-inch Shocker air receiver will not fit a three-inch hitch with a reducer sleeve. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
