Video Transcript for Fastway Self-Locking, Adjustable 2-Ball Mount Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts. So, if you're looking for an easy to use, versatile ball mount, our fastway self locking ball mount, is going to be able to adapt to several different trailers, keep everything secure without any extra components, and look good while doing it.If you tow multiple different trailers, chances are they're going to have a different coupler size, or they're going to have a different tongue height. So, we're going to have to switch out our ball mount. That can become a hassle, especially if we tow so many different trailers in any given day.Well, our fastway ball mount's going to take care of that, because we're going to be able to switch our height, because it's going to be adjustable. But it's also going to give us two different ball sizes. Our ball mounts are going to come in a lot of different configurations, we're going to have some that are going to be available for the two inch receiver tube like we have here. But some also available for the two and a half inch receiver tube. And they're going to have varying different drops and rises that way you can pick one that's going to work with all of your trailers. Now, one thing that you're really going to appreciate about this, is that it's going to have self contained locks.

We're going to have this rubber grommet here, that's going to have a plug over our lock cylinder, so it means we can just lift it open. And you'll notice that we're going to have a tubular key, so we're not going to have to worry about it being picked. But if we unlock our ball, we can slide it up or down to get the appropriate riser drop. And then if we remove it, you'll notice that we're going to have another lock core right on the base here. Now, this is going to be used so we can lock our ball mount directly to the receiver tube. And if you watch, you can notice that the pins are going to go in.

So, we're not going to have to worry about losing our lock, because it's going to be self contained inside the ball mount. We can simply just slide our ball mount in place, line up the pin holes, and then rotate our key, until those pins extend out. And you can see that's not going anywhere. So, we'll make sure that pin is in all the way. And slide our ball mount on, then we can rotate the key, until we get it into the slot, and it will lock it in place. Now, our ball mount's not going to go anywhere, and we're not going to have to worry about anybody stealing it from our receiver, or taking the ball platform. And for extra piece of mind, to make sure that you have the ball mount in the correct spot, it isn't just hung up.

The key itself is not going to come out until it's fully in the locked position. So, even if I get it half way and the key is turned, it's still not going to come out, because that pin hasn't fully inserted. But once it does, the key will come out. Each one of these notches in our ball mount here is going to be in one inch increments. So, right now, we have them in rise position. And if we need to go up say two inches, we can just go up two notches, and that will give us a two inch rise.

And the same thing if we we're going down in the drop position. Each one of our ball mounts is going to come with a total of four keys, and both sets of keys are going to work with both the locks. With the locks being right on front of the shank here, and on the side of the ball platform, it's going to make it a lot easier than trying to get underneath the hitch here, messing with the pin and clip, or locking device, and it's one less thing that we have to worry about misplacing. Because our locks are going to be internal, and they're going to be sealed off from any kind of dirt or debris, so we don't have to worry about them getting damaged. Each one of our ball mounts is going to be made out of a solid piece of aircraft grade aluminum, so we're not going to have to worry about any weak points, because there's no welds in them to break. So, they're going to be nice and strong, and durable, but yet lighter weight than steel versions. Our ball mount right now we have in the drop position, but you can flip it over and put it in the rise position. In case you have a trailer that's taller than the other, so we can get a little bit more height, or drop for whatever we need. Now, each one of them's going to have two different balls on it, we're going to have a two inch ball, and a two and five sixteenths inch ball. And switching them's going to be just as easy as adjusting the height, we simply unlock it, flip the ball platform over, to whichever ball we need. And when it comes to the trailer balls themselves, we're going to have two different options. We'll have the version we have here, which is gonna be a steel, chrome plated ball, which is your typical trailer ball. And then we're going to have the stainless steel version. Now, these are going to be made out of a 303 stainless steel, and they're going to be extremely rust and corrosion resistant. It's going to be really good for marine applications, or anywhere that has a lot of moisture, even humidity, so we're not going to have to worry about rust. And that is another big benefit of the aluminum ball mount, it is going to be rust and corrosion resistant, so we know it's going to have this nice, polished mirror finish for a long time. Now, since our ball mounts are going to come in a variety of different configurations, the shank size, and the ball size, is going to make a difference on how much it can handle. So, whenever you're towing, you always want to double check your hitch, as well as the vehicle's owner manual, and go with the lowest rating.Being able to adjust the ball mount up and down, is nice, but if we don't know how much of a drop or rise we need, it doesn't do us much good. So, we'll show you how to measure for the appropriate riser drop for your trailer. You're going to want to measure from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, you're gonna make sure that your tow vehicle is nice and flat and on level ground whenever you make your measurement. So, right here, we're getting right about 17 inches. Now, we can come to our trailer and again, you want to make sure that your trailer is nice and level. So, we have our trailer chalked. And we'll come up to the coupler, and we'll measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler here. Which I'm getting right about 21 inches. So, there is about a four inch difference. But since my trailer is higher, I'm going to want a four inch rise. So, we'll take our ball mount, we'll make sure that the pins are all the way in, and since I need a rise, I'll put it in the rise position. Slide it in the receiver tube, line up the holes and turn the key and lock it in place. And we can grab our ball platform, and again, open up the plug, take our key, make sure that pin goes all the way in. Pick the appropriate ball for your trailer, we'll slide it down close to where we need it. And once we have it lined up, we can turn the key and replace the plug. So, now we can go and double check our measurements, make sure we're pretty close to that 21 inches, and we are. Now, all we have left to do, is back up and hook up to our trailer. That'll finish up your look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts.

Application: 2012 F250 Powerstroke. Overall crafsmanship is awesome. Makes me proud that it was MADE IN THE USA. Haven't had it on truck long enough to give you an extended review hence only a 4 out of 5, but hitch is solid and looks like it can take a beating. Ended up going with the solid stainless balls for a little extra money rather than have the chrome peel and wear after time.

After about 6 months the key lock for adjustment seized up for the adjustable ball and the pin that holds it in the received. Never even made it to winter. I always kept the two locks sealed too. I threw this extremely expwnsive hitch out. Back to having multiples for me. Would not recommend

Awesome product, easy ordering and extremely fast free shipping,I recommend trailer for all your towing needs.....

by:

Used it to tow my a tv up to my hunting camp in upstate pa. Worked great.

by:

Awesome looking and very strong goes well with my 2020 Denali.

by:

Great S&H Times. Got the mount the very next day. Prices was better than quoted elsewhere!

Item #DTALBM6600-2S is well built and looks great! Love that it is adjustable and with it being aluminum with stainless steel balls hopefully will never need to buy another hitch again. Highly recommended.

by:

Replaced my old Flash Secure 2-Ball Mount 2" Hitch -7" Drop with this 2.5" Hitch -6"Drop and it Fits/Looks great just like I expected! Great products from etrailer.com thank you!

by:

Don't know why I resisted buying this for so long. It fits better than any other hitch; tighter and more stable. Also the aluminum construction can handle the off road driving and the extreme elements of Baja surf trips, Thanks

by:

Love the design with no locking through pins to worry about.

Only reason for three stars is I received the product with cosmetic damage from being dropped.

by:

This is my 3rd one have down sized my truck from a 2500 to a 1500. This hitch has never failed me or gave me any trouble. One thing I have learned, is about once a yr. I remove hitch and clean out the receiver of all the road crud that will build up. Thank you for making a hitch that is almost foolproof.

by:

I have not had a chance to use the ball mount yet but it is easy to use and fits receiver with no issues. I recently purchased a Curt class V receiver that is installed below my OEM receiver. With the drop installed in the Curt receiver in the upright position, the back of the ball mount comes very close to the bumper on my 2011 Ram 2500 crew cab. I will see if there are any contact issues when actually towing and revise my review, if necessary.

by:

Very nice! It's a little pricey, but it's the best looking hitch money can buy. It's like the fine jewelry of truck accessories. Everybody who sees it really likes it. Even my daughter said "WOW! That's nice!" She's not real big on trailer accessories.

by:

Works great. The locking pin feels like it could be a bit wider but otherwise I love it. I’m a novice at towing so the adjustability of the height has helped make sure the towing has been optimized at all times.

by:

Very strong, easy to install and very secure. Yes a bit pricey, but well worth the money. I did notice there was what I thought was an unusual amount of play in the receiver.
I called etrailer and Marcia was so very helpful and very concerned that I may have received the wrong product. She even called the manufacturer and found out what the changes that were made by the manufacturer which made the pictures incorrect. My hat is off to Marcia and all the folks at etrailer

by:

This is the best (and nicest) hitch I have ever owned and got rid of all my others. It adjusts easily to my different trailer heights and is both secure in the height selection and the receiver. The only think I don't like are the small rubber dust covers over the locks...they tend to not stay in-place. I purchased the 2-inch mount but my new truck has a 2.5, for which I needed to get an insert to work. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a single hitch solution.

by:

A very nice ball mount and a very clean look. No pins or external locks. Pricey but really nice. For safety the key will not come out of the lock unless the pins are in the locked position. I keep the key with my ignition key to make sure I lock the mount to the hitch. I purchased the model with the Stainless balls, very nice with no rust.

by:

Superior quality product. Material cost alone worth more than selling price!
The hitch & ball mount BOTH have internal locks
Internal locking system works butter smooth and eliminates concerns of theft.
Much less cumbersome & longer lasting than traditional pin/lock combos.
Ball mount arrives with balls already mounted
Order 2.5" mount to eliminate sleeve (if any) on existing hitch for no rattle fit.
Appearance is very impressive & I am very pleased with this product.

by:

So far so good. Only had the hitch for 2 wks. Upgraded my tractor hauler truck and trailer so why not the hitch as well. Looks to be very solid construction.

As to the locking mechanism I am pleased I chose the barrel keys. Easier to keep clean (dirt roads) and spending this $$ on hitch I lock the design. Other hitches have been stolen when they beat the lock bar off the receiver.

by:

Just wanted to let you know we love the hitch and it works perfect for our situation. The first pic is the rig we usually pull but sometimes we need to use the car trailer and the 2nd pic is where the hitch comes in real handy!

by:

Looks great, I like the safety feature. I wont have to worry about it being stolen.

by:

Great hitch at a great price. Shipping was fast. Ordered online and it was a breeze. The picture of the hitch showed it had a sleeve but when it came there was no sleeve. Which was nice fits great in my 21/2 receiver.

by:

This is my 2nd hitch. The 1st one I purchased had Chrome Balls, do yourself a favor and do not buy a Chrome Ball Hitch, I do not think the Stainless Balls were an option when I purchased 3 years ago. The issue with the Chrome ball is they RUST! It ruined my hitch and unfortunately the balls can't be replaced which is pretty stupid. Looking forward to the New Hitch and Stainless Balls holding up better than the 1st Hitch, i'll keep you posted.

by:

After a lot of research and comparisons I called etrailer to see what they could do for me on the hitch I wanted. Katie D. was very good at answering my questions and the order process was seamless. Received notification on the order as well as shipment details to track the item.
What I like the most is the fact the lock is built in and the hitch looks great on the truck. Not only that it is solid and does not rattle.
It showed up a couple days earlier than expected and will be ordering again with etrailer and Katie D. will be getting my business!
Thanks.

  • Can a Damaged Diversi-Tech Self-Locking Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount # DTALBM7025-2S Be Repaired
If your Diversi-Tech Self-Locking Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount # DTALBM7025-2S has been bent/damaged in an accident you will need to replace it, I'm sorry to say. The kind of stress put on the aluminum in a situation like yours is likely to have done permanent damage, some of which may not necessarily be visible to the eye. Even if it were possible to straighten it there could easily be hidden damage (in the form of small fractures) that could cause the unit to fail to meet its specs. Unfortunately...
