Cam Style Trailer Door Latch Recommendation For Limited Clearance Area for Brackets

Question:

Hi, we are a display house, and we are having 2 trailer swing doors made to be installed on a display for use at a tradeshow, We need the hardware to install the doors, to look like real trailer doors. The doors are approximately 44inch wide x 88inch high. We would need 2 sets of Cam-action lockable door latch kits item PLR658-002 or PLR458-018 please explain difference and advice which one is the best one to use. We will have a 6inch high space above the door opening to receive the lock at the top, and a 2and7/16inch space below the door opening. Is this space at the bottom wide enough to receive the bottom locks ? What diameter pipe should we use for the 2 cam-lock assemblies The 2 doors need to be able to swing 270 degree, is your hinge PLR2212-AS ok to use? How many should we use? Do you carry Wabash type trailer door hinges? Thank you, looking forward to your reply.

The big difference between the Cam Door Latch # PLR458-018 and the # PLR658-002 is the robustness of the pipe mount on the handle side. The # PLR658-002 is more for heavy duty applications and comes with bushings for the pipe to mount in. This requires a 1-5/16 inch diameter pipe and the other requires 3/4 inch diameter.

That said, since you said you only have a space of 2-7/16 inches for the bottom bracket to fit you'd actually want the part # PLR258-002 instead as it has a smaller sized bracket.

The hinge kit part # PLR2212-AS can also pivot 270 degrees too if needed.
