Secure Locking Mechanism

This door lock has a disc tumbler locking mechanism. Unlike locks that use vulnerable spring-loaded pins, this ultra-secure lock is bump-proof. The cylinder has a series of rotating discs that can be correctly lined up only when you turn the corresponding key. Two identical notched keys are included to operate the lock. Because these keys feature 1 of nearly a million possible key codes, it's extremely unlikely that another individual will have a key that can open this lock.

What's up, everybody It's AJ, with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the AMPLock Barn Door Latch Lock. So it's gonna go over your latch here on the back of the enclosed trailer and prevent anybody from being able to lift that out and move that, that way nobody can get in here, and mess with your stuff. It goes right over there, it's on there really good, so you can't get that off to open this up and everything is safe, let's check it out. The whole thing is gonna be made out of a cast iron with an E-coating on there, which means it's gonna be really heavy duty, it's gonna be shock absorbent, and also, the E-coating is gonna make sure that the elements don't get to it 'cause you're going to leave it on your trailer and your gonna leave your trailer outside. So, it's not gonna rust or corrode on you, it's gonna keep that protected from the rain and whatnot.

On the bottom side, you have your lock cover there, which is good, so it also protects it from the elements. And then you have rotating disc lock, just gotta line key up. So what you're gonna do is turn it till it stops turning, and then you just pull, and it pulls the cylinder out, which pulls the pin out so you can remove that. Now, looking on the inside, you see that's the pin there, it moves. So even, one of the things I really like is, even without the key in there, if you go to push this back on, you just push it, it's gonna go right back into place and it locks, you don't have to make sure the keys in the right position.

You just push the button, lock it, and it's all locked up. Something I was concerned about when I first started working with this was that it moves a little bit here on the trailer, which is not really a concern because that pin's go through there and it's locked on there tight. So it's not going anywhere, it's just gonna be a little bit of movement when you're driving with this installed on the back. But that's just because it's made to fit so many different latches and barn doors, they wanted to make sure that it would fit all of those different ones. So you might not have any movement in yours as you have, if you have a thicker handle here, or a thicker a latch.

So, just one of those things to look out for, definitely better than just having a pad lock down there, that works well, I guess, as a theft deterrent, but people can come right there with the bolt cutters, cut that, or get a grinder on there. This one, the pin's hidden on the inside, so even if you get a pry bar and kind of pry it open you see, this is kinda like armor, with that pin on the inside. So you can't really get to the pin that's actually locking it, and it's gonna take you a long time to try and cut through this. You're also gonna get two keys with it, so you can keep one on your key ring and throw one in the glove box just so you always have it when you're pulling your trailer. I think this is gonna work out really well, it's gonna keep anybody from messing with this, it's a heavy duty lock.

So kind of like I said before with the padlock, you don't have to worry about anybody just come by and clipping it with bolt cutters or anything, they're gonna have to work really hard to get to the inside, and chances are, they're just gonna move on to a different trailer that doesn't have this. Well, thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helps..

Lock failed after one year. So considering the high price of the lock, a years use is not worth it. I bought two locks for my cargo trailer exactly a year ago, when one of them failed. I loaded up equipment into my trailer, locked the doors, went 30 minutes down the road, and along the way one of the locks fell off. It had to of failed because I locked up my equipment and the only way to remove the key is to put the bolt into the locked position, and as the AMP key is on my key ring with my truck and house keys, it's not as if I left the key in the lock. After unhitching my trailer I drove back along the rout hoping to see my lock on the side of the road, but never did find it. I told eTrailer about the issue, but never got a response. The other AMP lock is working fine, so the one that fell off might have been a lemon, but for that price, who wants to take a chance.
