The easy lift is every thing they say it is. I have a 97 3500 chevy truck,it was easy to install and the box contains ever thing you need to make clean install.Just follow the instructions.2455962

Great product. And just to be clear though it’s not meant to really slow down the speed at which the tailgate drops. It does slow down the speed just it bit so it doesn’t slam open. What this product does quite well is make the tail gate feel extremely light. This product was installed on an 04 Silverado with a tailgate that weights about 40 LBS. After installing the Hopkins EZ lift, tailgate feels like it weighs 10lbs. The instructions could have been better detailed but if you take your time and measure twice and drill once install is a breeze. Two holes about 3/8 of inch need to be drilled. One on the bed and one on the tailgate.3137150

After a year of having this installed the company reached out to ask me how it’s working. I have no complaints and have never been happier with my tailgate. My wife used to ask me to lift the gate for her but now she lifts it with one hand easily. I can lift it with my strongest finger. The middle one.

The EasyLift truck bed tailgate lift assist works amazingly well at reducing the effort needed to open and close the truck tailgate. I would recommend an assistant to help with reinstalling the tailgate after removing and drilling the necessary hole. Rod placement and alignment are difficult to accomplish alone. Future tailgate removal and reinstallation will also be much more difficult without assistance.1732000

Works great, easy enough to install if you're brave enough to drill into the bed/tailgate of your truck.
Tailgate can be lifted and lowered with a single finger.
You'll need a friend to help you put the tailgate back on.
Follow the layout instructions, use the template guide, and put anti-seize on the holes you drilled!1706999

Still working great even after 1 year of using it!

I do not typically write reviews-pro or con. This product, however, so over delivered that I felt it deserved some good attention. I had seen the other products that use a gas strut, but that only aids in lowering the tailgate and does nothing to help in lifting. Well, this product helps in both directions. I mean it REALLY helps. I can now lift the tailgate with two fingers-really, no exaggeration.

Finally, don’t be a moron like me and try to reinstall it alone. The reinstallation really is a two person job. I wish I had purchased this long ago. Get it!!1707060

Had this truck for and hated the heavy tailgate for 25 years. 1995 GMC Sierra 2wd 1,500, short bed, standard width (not step side.) I wish I’d known about this torsion bar years ago. So very simple to install. Maybe an older product version had different template design, but this one I purchased Nov 2019 has absolutely correct hole placement. FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE & INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY!!!
I read the reviews stating incorrect hole location for their model. One was a Dodge saying A side hole was wrong. My template had a different location for Dodge marked same as that customers final install hole. Another stated B hole was off and recommended using the bar as the template, but I bet he drilled B location for the torsion bar installed at a straight up into the tailgate 90 degree. The design is for the bar to go into the tailgate and then slide toward the passenger side until the white mark on the B side is at the hole in the tailgate. If it’s only installed straight up, then it can work itself downward with road vibration falling out of the tailgate completely or partially causing damage when it’s next opened. I also suspect this is the cause for the review of torsion bar imprinting the outer skin of the tailgate, it was not fully inside the tailgate to that white paint mark on the torsion bar. Also I noticed the tailgate didn’t lay fully down as mentioned by other reviews, until I moved the bar fully in to the B side white mark. THERSE ISSUES ARE ONLY IF ONE OVERTHINKS THE INSTALL DIRECTIONS & TEMPLATE AND DECIDES THEY ARE INCORRECT. SAVE YOURSELF FROM PROBLEMS WITH FUNCTION AND EXTRA HOLES DRILLED. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR TRUCK MODEL NO MATTER IF YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE WRONG. I’m 47, disabled, multiple level spinal injury and advanced carpal tunnel in both wrist. I was able to install this with my cordless drill. On my 95 GMC, the torsion bar was a very snug fit behind the drivers side tailgate pivot hinge. It would not go into its final location without some persuasion. I followed install directions exactly. I liberally coated all torsion bar to truck metal contact points with very thick grease. It functions very smooth, quiet, and it’s like I’m opening the tailgate on a $75k 2019 Denali. I have absolutely nothing negative to say except mad at myself I didn’t do this years ago. I recommend this to everyone. The torsion bar helps you lift the tailgate to close and supports the weight on the way down. The hydraulic assist struts only slow the drop, they do not help with lifting the tailgate to close. The torsion bar does both. 724687

Wow! This is awesome! Was originally going to get a strut that lowered my gate softer, but then I found this. Not only does it prevent the massive thud, but it also allows me to raise with 2 fingers. Plus it was cheaper! Pretty simple install, definitely need a friend or sister-in-law (in my case) to help install the second half. Wonderful idea, glad I found it. Thanks.3143523

Put this on a F250 Super Duty; Directions only showed for F150 but same template was applicable. Installation was successful and a big difference. Very happy with the outcome. Doesn’t operate without any effort but strain is significantly reduced. Simple installation-took about 30 minutes. Did everything by myself except remounting the tailgate. Got help from another 70+ year old so two old men managed it.1684183

This is a simple solution & makes a big difference. The torsion rod is easy to install once the tailgate is off. Not sure how many pounds of effort it removes from raising the tailgate, but it's quite noticable.
I was rear-ended shortly after installing it. The product survived the accident and it was reinstalled with a fresh tailgate, no problem.

Only negative is that it squeaks while in use.1663522

The instructions were very detailed and made it easy. Be sure to have another strong person to help with lifting the tailgate, especially when you need to turn it 90° to get it on the right stop of the rod. Works like a dream. Will worth the money I paid for it. 163457

Im still happy with this product just as much as when I first got it. Works great. Glad I purchased it.

I really am quite satisfied with the tail gate helper springs. I only have one suggestion and that is on some models of Dodge Ram you may have to change the install slightly. Don,t know if I am the only one who has had this problem but for the hole drilled in the left hand hinge area , I had to lower the hole about two inches. Not a big deal but drilling at the suggested location made the spring bind with the left hand hinge. Lowering this hole took care of the problem and let me tell you this spring makes the tailgate weigh about 1 pound. I will attach pics to help explain .665653

Installed per instructions. Tailgate was quite heavy as I held one side and my helper thread the gate and bar together tilting the gate at proper angles. 4X4 2500... this isn't easily done. Afterwards the Tailgate was easier to lift but sure not worth the effort. Would not recommend this product to anyone who owns a nice truck, a work beater maybe. Took it off immediately as the gate end dented out and friction exerted on the hinges made them creaky. Took it off and tried to lube friction points. Second try ending with nothing much more but less noise. Took it off and now have two holes to remind me of the Hopkins EasyLift....1636688

This lift assist is awesome. I have now used it on two trucks (a 1996 Dodge and a 2001 Ford). Before installing it took both hands to lost the tailgate. After installation it takes one finger.1651129

Have a 7.3 OBS and those tailgates are extra heavy and drop real fast once opened. I wanted something to make it easy for my wife to open and close, and kids not to get brain damage from accidentally opening it. This product did exactly that! Easy installation (took about 15 min). 1 year review. I think I have had this product now for over a year and it still works just as well as day one. Makes my 1996 tailgate feel like a 2016.

Got the easy lift tailgate. Wow. Didn't think this would work, but it does and its fantastic. It's simple to install, no moving parts and very reasonable for the price. Can now operate my tailgate with one hand without breaking my wrist. Great product. 434328
