Hopkins Tailgate Assist # 74211 Installation Advice

Question:

Should I have any installation concerns for my particular vehicle? How likely is it that the part may bend the outer panel of the tailgate? I read one review on another site where the bar bent the outer panel of the tailgate because it was drilled too closely to the outer panel the installer took the blame himself, and another where the steel bent around the drilled holes. Another review on another site said that the bar itself broke, leaving part of it inside the tailgate, rattling around and unable to be removed. How likely am I to have these types of issues with my truck? Almost all reviews I have found have been 5 stars, which is why I ordered it from you. I am paying someone to install this for me this weekend, and Id like to know if there is anything I should warn them of in advance. Thank you for your time!

I spoke with my contact at Hopkins and he informed me that the issues you described are very rare, and that anytime something like that has occurred they have replaced the damaged part.

He said that all of the Hopkins Tailgate Assist, part # 74211, get X-rayed before they leave to ensure that there are no air bubbles in the potted metal that might compromise the integrity of the metal.

He said that your tailgate might have a slight bulge in it once this product is installed but that is normal and it will not cause permanent damage.

If your installer takes his time and follows the installation instructions carefully you should have no issues with your Hopkins Tailgate Assist.

I attached a review video for this product below for you to check out.
