Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima roof rack system on our 2018 Ford Expedition. So I am using our Timberline towers for our roof rack system and I'm using the HD Yakima bars as well. And to be honest, these towers are very easy to install compared to some of the others. It just wraps around your existing raised rails and it makes the installation really easy.So on this Expedition we will have a lot of capacity for passengers on the inside.
So being able to utilize our roof to store some of their luggage is going to be ideal for those long trips. The less luggage in there, the better more space for your passengers. And for me that's always a plus. So this is going to be ideal for all of your T-track accessories and you don't have to remove this cap to get those on. On top of that, we do have tie down points, which makes everything very, very convenient and easy.
We can throw up a bunch of different kayak carriers, a canoe carrier, a couple of bike racks if we want, or just get a huge cargo carrier on top just to take everybody's luggage out from the inside of your cabin. So these bars are going to be made of aluminum, which is going to help resist against rust and corrosion. It has a nice powder coated finish, which is just going to give it a really sleek look on this black expedition. It does look very cool, but one thing we could add, and I would definitely add, there's a front fairing that Yakima makes and that's going to help direct that wind from going underneath our bars and then it will direct it over just to cut down on that wind noise and possibly help your gas mileage. So just to let you guys know, a lot of our customers are wondering what the gap is between our roof and the bottom of our bars. With the HD bars here we are at about three and a half from the roof to the bottom of our bars and from the roof to the top of the bars we are about four and three quarter inches. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's just go ahead and show you how easy it is to install. So the first thing you're going to want to do is we are going to back this bolt out a little bit just by loosening it.
And by doing that, I found it easiest to then push in. So as you see when I push in, it's going to let this go through, which then I can get that out from underneath. And then we're going to have to get to, there is a bolt underneath there and I've found it to be easiest just to shove it all the way up front and we're going to be able to loosen that a little bit. Then we'll go to the top side of it. On the top side, the first thing we're going to want to do is take our plastic piece here. See these grooves, I'm going to line them up with these grooves.
Just goes in there very easily. Then we can take our T-track, drop that in, hold it into place and access that bolt down there. We're going to give it maybe a couple turns just to make sure it gets threaded on there. And once we do that we can go ahead and put this on our bars.I am using the Yakima HD bars, which is going to require us to take the cap off. It's going to be one screw, and I have found it easier to flip this over to get that screw out. Just Grab it like that. And we are only going to have to remove one cap because if we put them on there correctly, we don't have to do it on both sides. We get that lined up on the T-track, slide that all the way down. And now what I'm going to do is repeat that same exact process on our other foot.So now we can go ahead and put our bars on our rails. So once we get this looped underneath our fixed rails here, we might have to loosen this a little bit just so it can fit around this little groove here. But once we get it in that groove, we can go ahead and start tightening it down. And once it gets nice and tight, make sure and check. And if it is, we can put our caps on. So all we really need to do is get these two points here to go in these holes there. And once we get that in place, should snap right in. Well, everyone, thanks for tuning in and taking a look at the Yakima roof rack system on our 2018 Ford Expedition.

Heavy-duty crossbars mount to Yakima towers to create an aftermarket roof rack. Top and bottom channels let you add channel-mount accessories. Tie-down points in endcaps let you easily secure cargo.Works perfect for our SUP with the tie down loops. Great for building materials as well. Looks great as well.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee used landing pads 18 to mount to the roof my newer 2023 JGC uses landing pad 19. I was able to change the pads thanks to etrailer and install my older roof rack on my newer Jeep. I love that the majority of my roof rack is upgrade-able.
In the confusing world of roof racks, the etrailor site had a locator tool that made it easy to identify the correct landing pads and towers for my vehicle.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
I ordered the Yakima roof rack for a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq. I went with the heavy duty one for extra strength but it is quite a bit thicker, likely increasing wind noise. So I might have chosen the aerodynamic lighter weight one if I was to do it again. Also, I needed to get larger bolts for my kayak holder to get around the crossbar. The instructions and video on website were very helpful but they did not explain well how to adjust the toe and pitch. For the toe adjustment, you have to push the metal post with the tool before tightening. That was not obvious. For the pitch, it helped to do that once the towers are attached to crossbar. Then you can tilt tower while cross bar is laying flat (upside down). I ended up having to add tilt on both front and back crossbars for them to be flat when installed. Website said only front one would need to be pitched. I am very pleased with the look and sturdiness of the product. My Hyundai Dealer had zero options for this car.
etrailer was a great place to order, quick and easy. Yakima products however are over priced and overly complicated.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
You sold me used equipment at new prices. What a rip off. Your company is a joke! No worries, you’ll not have to worry about screwing up another order for me in the future. I’ve learned my lesson not to deal with your customer service.
These adapters were easy to install and made my system fit together nicely.
I had cross bars and landing pads on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I bought these to put on my wife’s new Grand Cherokee L. They were extremely easy to install and now I can easily move the roof rails between the two vehicles. They are a great product as is most of Yakima’s products. I highly recommend them.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
I have these installed on a 2022 Honda Pilot. I could not get them to fit on my raised roof rails with the included rubber gaskets. I have mounted them without the gasket but this leaves a gap between the rail and the landing pad. This seems secure but does not have a finished look. I will be trying to see how to get the gaskets to fit.
The customer service in ordering theses par tea was amazing!! I spoke with a wonderful specialist named Kate F, and she was super helpful and patient answering all my questions and helping me make sure I had the correct parts I needed for my type of car. The bars are very sturdy and have proven very worth the money!!
I had a difficult time identifying whether these were the correct adapters for the rack towers that I was purchasing to fit my tracks but that has more to do with yakima doing everything a-la-cart instead of having kits that include everything you need if I hadn't already had the HD bars on my other rack and wanted to be able to transfer them to this rack I probably wouldn't have went to this expense because I think they are overpriced.AS far as etrailer is concerned I always receive great service and products and they are always well packaged and never damaged by poor delivery care and always fast delivery speed.
Your service is nothing short of excellent! Thank you
great service
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
Great product and even better was the service with etrailer! These guys make it happen and delivery was super fast. Thanks for a fantastic experience, will be a return customer.

The Yakima products are doing great. Just got home yesterday from a 18 day trip using them in Michigan's upper peninsula. Love them. Great products. Thanks again.
Required for Yakima HD crossbars using timberland tower system.
Easily supports the RoofNest! The Customer Service with Roger was Excellent!
Great company. Fast delivery.
I love the ease of removing my crossbars at the end of the season with these landing pads. Highly recommend these.
They fit perfectlly and solidly on my 2021 Toyota Highlander. The instructions are clear and entirely accurate.
The roof rack works well. The only problem I have is noise and while I'm carrying a ladder there is none. I figured if I take the ladder off I'll split a piece of pvc pipe and mount that on the front of it. But they work well for what I needed for work. The service from etrailer was excellant. I dealt with Carol and she did a very good job in helping me.
