Today on this 2014 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar Roof Rack System, from Rhino Rack. Part numbers RRVA137S-2, which are the crossbars. Part number RRRLKVA, which are the legs, and then part number DK375, which are the clamps, which attach it to your vehicle. Now as you can see, we have the front crossbar already installed. Let's go ahead and show you how the rear one goes into place. We have it set up on a table here and one side of it is already put together. Now when you get the kit, it's going to come with the bars, the legs, and it's going to come with these 2 covers here, which are lockable, as well as the keys to lock them.
You're going to have this tightening tool that comes with it, as well as the foot pad, or excuse me, the leg pad, and the clamp itself. Okay. I'm going to go ahead and flip this upside down so it's a little bit easier for you to see. Now they're also marked on the inside here, this is the rear left, and this is the rear right. Now we're first going to go ahead and put on the leg pad and you want the aero on this facing forward. There we go.
Then we'll take our clamp and put that into place as well. I'm going to go ahead and flip this back over. Undo the screw here. Place the screw through our clamp, and just loosely install it for now because you're going to need this loose when you put it onto the vehicle. There we go. Now we'll go ahead and move over to the car and open up our rear doors.
Go ahead and take our crossbar, put it up and over, just kind of generally set it into place for now. Looks like this side can come over just a little bit. Okay. Next we'll go ahead and set our crossbar spread. In this case it's going to be 70 centimeters.
I have to get my roll tape here, excuse me. That's going to be from center to center. Repeat this on the other side. Okay, this should be good. Okay, now we can loosely tighten them up. We'll take our tightening tool, just get them loosely fit up against the door sill here first, like so. Now we'll go ahead and make about 5 turns each side until it's completely tightened down. I'd like to point out something, too. I kind of run through this on the other side there. When you're tightening up these clamps you want to make sure the clamp comes between these 2 spaces here and you're not tightening up against that because you don't want those to break. Then when these things are actually tightened and torqued where they need to be, the tool here will actually become straight while you tighten it, instead of curved like it is now. It looks to be good. We'll go ahead and put our covers on now and lock them up. Put this in like so, lock it up. There you have it for our Rhino Rack Crossbar Roof Rack on our 2014 Ford Escape. .

These heavy-duty, aluminum crossbars work with Rhino-Rack legs to create a sturdy roof rack. The square bars include built-in C-channels for mounting Rhino-Rack heavy-duty, contractor-grade accessories. These are the perfect racks for a low profile mounting of solar panels on my Sprinter van.
This works great. Very strong and reliable. Holds my ladders with ease. I’ve had it loaded down and done 80mph on the highway no problem.
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
Very happy with this product at the one year mark. No slippage or loose hardware. I wanted a wide flat rack for hauling kayaks and/or bikes and this product gave me enough real estate for both at a far more modest price than other brands.
I'm thinking of replacing the curved and narrow factory rack on my other vehicle with a Rhino as well.
Thanks to Etrailer, I am ready to do some serious summer exploring with my 2013 Mazda 3! Rhino Racks, Malone top box, and Kuat bike rack!
These work great. I’ve had an 80lbs 32ft extension ladder strapped down going 80mph on the highway and it was held in place.
I used this rack to mount two 65lbs kayaks to my vehicle and travel. One of many trips was over a thousand miles (round trip) and they moved maybe half a centimeter a piece during. I was extremely pleased with how easily I could adjust them. The original shipment had everything that was supposed to be in it and the directions were realitively clear. I had them together and on in roughly an hour. When they are off the roof the only issue I have arises. The rubber feet that sit directly on the roof tend to fall off easily. Not a big deal.
2016 Ford Escape Naked Roof... Easy to put together, easy to put on. Haven't actually used them yet, but the weekend is coming. They got here quickly and with no problems. (the J carriers are from some place else)
Rhino-Rack is an excellent system for securing your kayak/cargo to your roof.
Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.
Thank you for the very speedy customer service! My roof rack is already here!
I installed this by myself. It was very easy . Sometimes I found the instructions vague but the online installation video helped me when I wasn’t understanding what to do. I would recommend this product to my friends for sure. It looks great on my Escape. Loading up the SUP Boards in the morning. Can’t wait.
The Rhino Rack is very well made. I installed it my self on our 2016 Ford Escape, but had an assist from my wife to fine tune it at the end. There was no whistling or any other distracting wind noise on our 3,500 mile drive to visit family out West. A Sear's Cargo Box was easily mounted to the Rhino Rack and it remained centered and secured at western highway speed limits plus. The included locks on the roof mounts were the selling point for me. The Rhino Rack remained securely mounted to the roof with no additional adjustments or tightening being needed. Great Product. Donna P. @ etrailer was super with the order.
I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!
Great product everything fit perfectly. With the heavy duty bars almost all the hardware for anything you put on the rack is too short
I was in a roof rack jam. There was a national shortage of the rack I needed for my car and our summer vacation was a week away. I went to etrailer.com when I couldnt find the roof rack anywhere else on the web. Another website actually suggested that they might have what I needed.
I spoke to Ashley E on the phone to make sure that I was picking the right parts. Ashley was very helpful and knowledgable. She helped me find the right roof rack and made sure that I received it in record time. I am a customer for life!!!
This rack worked out great... I installed in on a 2017 Ford F-150. We drove 6 hrs through wind and rain with a SUP and Tandem Kayak on top. It really took a beating in a storm the whole way. One bracket was a little loose and shifted because of the wind on the Kayak, but it held together. Super happy with Rhino rack!
As always from etrailer.com, a great product at a reasonable price. Customer service help was not necessary in this case to choose the best product for my vehicle and needs, but has been a painless process for other needs in the past. Etrailer.com is my go-to for aftermarket cargo hardware needs.
As always, however, the manufacturer (not etrailer.com) provides marginal instructions. In spite of that, initial assembly and installation on my wife's 2016 Escape took about an hour, and it looks like the rack will do a great job for us on family trips. I anticipate removal or reinstall Atkin in the future to take less than 15 minutes for one person.
The Rhino roof racks with accompanying legs, pads and clamp kit are well designed for both fit and finish. The instructions are clear and precise and follow in a logical sequence! I would definitely recommend these roof racks for transporting kayaks , bicycles and other loads within the weight capacity stated!
This kit is easy to slap on and sturdy enough to balance my skis and snowboards. I recently used the Rhino Rack on a three hour drive to a ski resort and had no issues.
Rhino rack with kayak rack for Ford Escape. Easy install very sturdy. Kayak attachments fold down when not in use. Etrailer delivered!
Very pleased with my purchase. The videos made it really easy to put together and install.
This did everything that was promised. The rack held tight over 600 miles of road, at least half of which was in wind and rains. The instructions were very clear, and the only difficulty in getting the racks on the roof is that we were having 2 days of heavy rain and winds. Otherwise, it was a snap. The only issue I had was the rubber caps that go over the screw which hold the leg onto the bar itself. There is insufficient space for the rubber cap to slide through the bar. I can't see why the cap is necessary anyway, as the screw is not exposed to the elements at all
