Speaker 1: Today on our 2013 Ford Edge we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System. This is going to consist of part numbers RRVA137B-2. These are the Vortex Aero Crossbars, 54 inches long. These also come in silver, part number RRVA137S-2. We'll also be using part number RRRLKVA, these are the 2500 series feet for the Vortex Aero Crossbars. And finally part number DK228, and that's going to be the fit kit, and the clamps that clamp on the door frame of your existing vehicle. Now, how we got the front one installed here, we had everything assembled, we put it into place, and then we measured from the center of the door jamb here to the center of the bar on both sides to make sure it was even, to get everything measured out.
This is a great roof rack system that can carry a wide variety of accessories while freeing up space inside your Edge. This can carry anything from bike racks, to cargo baskets, to cargo boxes.Once you open up the end caps, with our handy tool here, you can see that you can utilize T Track Accessories with this as well. What you would have to do is you remove this strip, put your T Track Accessories into place, and then cut the strip to length around it. On our end caps here there is a plastic lock with this tool to hold everything into place. You can get this replaced with a regular lock, which you can find etrailer.com.
Once you do that you can lock that into place, and then your T Track Accessories will be secure as well. These bars do have an elliptical shape to them, and that coupled with that vortex aero strip up at the top, that's gonna help cut down the wind noise, and drag while you drive. Make sure a smooth ride. Also, at the end caps here, we do have locks already installed, so once this is installed on to your roof, it is gonna be secure to your roof. The pads that make contact with both the roof and underneath your door frame do have a padding to them so it's not gonna scratch or damage your car once they're being installed, and they are designed to contour perfectly with your roof.Let's go ahead and show you how the rear bar gets put together, and we'll install that, as well. We already have it partially assembled on our table here.
And here you're gonna have everything that comes with your roof rack system. We have the bar, the leg, the two end caps here, the fit kit, and of course, the tightening tools and keys to lock everything down. So, our first step is we're gonna take our leg here, and install it on the other end. We'll put the bar upside down just to make it a little bit easier on us. And how we're gonna do this, we're gonna take this point here, line it up with the top and push it into place. At this point, there's also a plastic strip that comes with this that we will cut to length to measure out the distance from this point to here and put the rest of it on the other side.
Now, for demonstration purposes we're not gonna be doing that, but that's the normal procedure that you would be going by.Instead, we're gonna take our handy roll tape here, and measure it out. And you will find this measurement in the instructions with your Fit Kit. And that's gonna be part number DK228. So, measure this out here. Once that's measured out, we'll take our tightening tool, to the screw in the center here. Just tighten that down. This kind of eliminates the need to have to measure the crossbar overhang that you would with other roof rack systems. It should be set before you really put it on to the vehicle. Now, I'll take our end cap. We'll put that into place. Secure that down here with a tool. Next, we'll take our foot pad here, and start installing our fit kit. With the rubber pads at the bottom you want to make sure the arrow was facing out, away from the actual center of the roof . excuse me, from the center of the bar, and you wanna make sure that the number is correct on the pad as well, and you'll find this in the instructions. It's very specific. And that just kind of pushes into place, like so. And you see the arrow on the outside here to let you know that's facing outward from the vehicle. Line it up, and snap it in place. Finally, we'll take our clamp. Loosen up this screw here. Put our clamp into place and we'll just loosely install that screw back in place. We don't want it to all go all the way because we wanna have a little bit of wiggle room when we put it someplace on our roof. All right. Back over. Moving this out of the way, now we'll open up our rear doors and start installing our rear bar. When it comes to setting this on the roof, you wanna be careful 'cause you don't wanna accidentally bump the roof unintentionally. So, we'll set it on the other side as gently as we can. Now, we'll take that same flat tape that we have here. Again, you'll find this measurement in your instructions. We're gonna measure from the center of the front to the center of the rear. It's gonna be the same measurement on both sides, again, to keep everything nice and even. It's about 70 centimeters but I can change. There we go. We'll do this again on the driver's side. Okay. I wanna make sure it's sitting evenly on the roof. Both sides there. All right, now, we can start the tightening down process. Again, we'll be using that tool that comes with our kit. You can see how it has a curved end here. As you tighten it down, that's gonna straighten out, and once completely straight, that's when you know it's torqued to its specifications so you don't overtighten it.First, what we're gonna do, is we're going to get it loosely tightened against our doorframe here, kind of snug. And we'll go back and forth tightening about five or six times until it's completely tightened down. Then our final step, is we're gonna take our end caps, put those in place. Knock those down well. Before we're finished here, we'd like to give you a quick measurement, from the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar. It's gonna be about three and an eighth of an inch, and from the center to the top, it's gonna be about four and three-eighths of an inch. So, that's more than enough space for those accessories that wrap around your bars as opposed to use the T Track accessories, or it won't make contact with you if you damage it. Also, these bars do have a carrying capacity of 165 pounds, but you always wanna double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can take those weights, and go by the recommendations. And there you have it for the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System, on our 2013 Ford Edge.

These heavy-duty, aluminum crossbars work with Rhino-Rack legs to create a sturdy roof rack. The square bars include built-in C-channels for mounting Rhino-Rack heavy-duty, contractor-grade accessories.Buying this rack was a decision that I'm glad to report was spot on. It not only looks good on my Ford Maverick Hybrid but it has held up well and looks as good today as it did the day I bought it. It is also solid as a rock. The Rhino is also priced lower than other brands of similar quality.
Once installed the product is very sturdy and looks great. But the directions are hard to follow because of the separate components and would have been really tough without the video which was great. I have one problem, how can I eliminate the annoying wind sound when driving when nothing on the rack. I saw a video where wrapping a line around the crossbar can help. It has helped a lot but not completely. Is there another secret for this?
These are the perfect racks for a low profile mounting of solar panels on my Sprinter van.
Amazing product! This rack is as good as Thule and Yakama, and is about $100+ cheaper. I have owned both, and love this rack. As good of quality or better, and great accessories as well.
This works great. Very strong and reliable. Holds my ladders with ease. I’ve had it loaded down and done 80mph on the highway no problem.
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
Very nice rack, looks great and performs well ! Easy to install . Thanks !
etrailer had the perfect solution to my car-top carrier scenario. All of the components needed were listed and available. The order process was an ease, the products arrived complete and on-time, and the products themselves are very high-quality. 10/10 will return for future needs.
Etrailer sold me a discontinued rack from rhino and is missing parts. It is also the last one they had so can’t send me a replacement. Rhino rack will not support and has no parts as it is discontinued. Parts sent do not fit and nobody can do much about it. Second issue I’ve had with etrailer and disappointed. Need to think about if will ever use etrailer again in the future.
Rhino Vortex 2500 roof rack setup on 2010 Ford Edge without factory racks. Everything I expected- as described in the videos- delivered when promised- installed without issue and functions perfectly- all at a fair price! After making sure it’s worked- I just ordered the XTRAY PRO cargo basket.
The definition of perfect:-)
I like the choices, videos and reviews on the website. Easy ordering. I received my order in only 3 days! This Rhino Rack system came with easy installation instructions. I did find that the measurement listed to set width of front crossbar was a bit off on my 2013 Ford edge. I made it a few millimeters wider and it was perfect. I use the racks to carry kayaks and have been very pleased.
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
Purchased a Rhino Rack custom fit rooftop system, along with the kayak rack to hold two kayaks and the Swagman rv bike rack. Made several trips and they all work great! Included photos to share.
Thanks to Etrailer, I am ready to do some serious summer exploring with my 2013 Mazda 3! Rhino Racks, Malone top box, and Kuat bike rack!
Excellent roof rack for my naked roof ...plus the installation video was perfect - rather than read thru the instruction manual the video saved the day. Customer service here was perfect too - my shipping had been delayed - and not once but twice the folks here helped me get it expedited very happy with product with video and customer service
We were told when ordering that the items weren't in stock. Should not be expected until mid-August. We decided to continue with the order and were very surprised and pleased when we received our items two days after ordering. We have ordered from etrailer in the past and have been very pleased by their service and products. I'm sure we'll do more business in the future.
Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.
Thank you for the very speedy customer service! My roof rack is already here!
I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!
This thing is very well designed and built but some of the measurements I got in the package were wrong. The front distance was correct but I had to adjust the rear to 164 mm rather than 172 so that the rubber properly seated in the grooves on the roof of my 2013 Ford edge.
Great product everything fit perfectly. With the heavy duty bars almost all the hardware for anything you put on the rack is too short
I was in a roof rack jam. There was a national shortage of the rack I needed for my car and our summer vacation was a week away. I went to etrailer.com when I couldnt find the roof rack anywhere else on the web. Another website actually suggested that they might have what I needed.
I spoke to Ashley E on the phone to make sure that I was picking the right parts. Ashley was very helpful and knowledgable. She helped me find the right roof rack and made sure that I received it in record time. I am a customer for life!!!
Great service. We sold our Toad and purchased a new (Lincoln MKX) to tow behind our motorhome. I contacted etrailer by phone and after a short dialogue, Blue Ox base plate and wiring components were on the way to my installer. Arrived in 4 days after my phone call ... free shipping. Worked great. ( still haven't towed new car yet). Now we need to modify ourRhino Rack for our canoe. I called Rhino Rack, got info and went back to etrailer. Again a well informed sales person got me all the parts that I needed to modify my canoe Rack for my new car. (Not free shipping).
Ok... bottom line... best price on the internet for what I was shopping for. Most informed and knowledgeable sales people. # 2... PPL motorhomes. Hope this helps others.
