Question:

Will this work for a 2008 Ford Edge with a Vista Roof? Planning on carrying two 10foot 47lbs a piece kayaks short distances...

Since you have a glass roof on your 2008 Ford Edge you'll want to check your owner's manual for any guidance regarding rooftop cargo loads. I reviewed an online version but it did not include roof weight capacity. Your manual will reflect the capacities of your exact vehicle as it was equipped from the factory and so this is your starting point. Or you can check with your local dealership by giving them your VIN number.

Chances are that you will not be able to directly load kayaks on your glass roof with the lightweight cost-effective foam block type carriers like the Malone # MPG152 so if you do need a roof rack the link provided will allow you to choose the type of roof configuration you have to then see compatible racks. Note that your Vista roof most likely cannot be opened with a rack in place. If you have a bare roof then the SportRack # SR1010 that you referenced would fit but it does not have enough weight capacity for your two kayaks plus the weight of the carriers.

A better option is the Rhino-Rack system consisting of parts # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK228. This rack has a weight rating of 140-lbs when installed on your car - but again your car's roof capacity may be less than this so check that manual.

With a square bar rack like this in place you can use one of the kayak carriers shown on the included link. Lightweight and cost-effective foam block carriers CAN be used on this type of rack so that may remain your best option to minimize the total roof weight load. But you also have J-style
carriers like SportRack # SR5511.

Remember to keep your total roof load within the car's roof weight rating. This includes the weights of the roof rack itself, the kayak carriers you select and the weight of the kayaks themselves.
