Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?
Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.
Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - and round up to the nearest even number to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 24" wide for these steps to work.
If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.
The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.
Once you know your doorway width and entry heigh measurements, the chart below will tell you which part number you need. This page's step assembly is in bold text.
Doorway Width | Entry Height | etrailer Part Number |

24" | 22" - 28" | LC713662 |
25" - 28.9" | 22" - 28" | LC733931 |

How Do You Install the Steps?
To install the steps:
-Secure the hardware (not included) but don't tighten
-If necessary, loosen the bolts on the latching arm to adjust

Aluminum fold-down steps with 13" deep top step attach to the threshold of your RV. Designed to fit in doorways 24" wide. Industry standard 8" drop/rise between steps. Adjustable legs keep steps level and reduce bounce.Excellent product, very bad info for measuring. DO NOT MEASURE BETWEEN THE FLANGES!!! My camper measures 24 between the flanges, but the latch mechanism is only 23 1/4 across. I called the manufacturer and they said to measure the widest part of the opening. Also be prepared to cut your door sill plate. I have a 2007 Mega Lite toy hauler by Extreme. After lots of mods the sill is waterproofed and they are super strong and solid. But what a bunch of crap. I could have saved over 100 bucks by ordering the next size up and would have been an easier instal. Lippert said to send them back but by the time i got to that part of the install i had already trimmed my sill plate. So not going to remove and send back.
Buying the Lippert SolidStep for myself was one of the best purchases I have made! That AND the collapsable DC teapot. No longer is going up and down the steps like a walk through a fun house at the fair. I feel much safer and more secure with the solid steps and the Camco Fold-Away RV Grab Handle.

This remains the best addition to our RV arsenal! Safe, steady and easy to adjust.
I thought long and hard about this before I posted it. I really hope this is not etrailer's normal way of doing business. First off this was ordered with expedited shipping paid for and these were in stock. After the time passed that we should have received our steps I called. To be told that these were on the top shelf in the warehouse and you only had one person that could get them down to ship them. After 4 more calls with ship dates passing I was finally able to get them shipped out. Two weeks late. Then they finally arrive last week and low and behold they are missing parts. I have made three calls as of now about this and still do not have a answer on the parts we are missing. These are $600 steps and as of right now they are no use to us because the back plate and all hardware are missing. As of last Saturday I was told I would get a e-mail on the parts shipping to us. As of today still no e-mail and no call back. I have left messages with no call back. At this very minute I am on hold to speak to a manager and have been on hold for over 15 minutes. Still no steps that work and no date on when we might have anything that we can install. This has become a nightmare. And as of right now we are our almost $650 for a set of solid steps we can't use. I have even offered to buy my own hardware if they will just get me the plate. At this point I have no idea what else to do.
Excellent product shipping was slow but expected in the current climate. Super easy to setup and install. Took longer to get the factory steps off than to install this product. Super sturdy and easy to adjust for height. Would recommend Solid Step and Etrailer.com to anyone with an older camper or trailer.
PERFECT FIT AS ALWAYS.
Steps appear to be well-made, have not installed them yet, but appears to be a fairly simple installation.
Only draw back I see is the pins that lock the extendable legs could be lost fairly easily, and are a little difficult to line up.
Also, detent balls could gum up with dirt and stick .
I will be looking for another type of lock pin.
We had to replace our steps from our 2021 new Bullet because somebody ran over it while we were in a parking stop. This was the exact same steps and we just had to screw them with the same metal screw without screwing under the floor. Ten minutes and it was done.
Great customer service. The fit on our Alfa Gold 5th wheel unfortunately required some serious modification on the threshold area, and the bottom of both the main door and the screen door for the doors to close properly. The screen door required additional modification to allow the doors to close with the step in the stowed position, as the frame hit the latches on the stowage lock. Once the required modifications were completed, which added at least 4 hours to the installation time, the step works great! It is easy to deploy
and stow, and is much more stable than the original step. Without the modifications required on my trailer, installation would be simple, but I would caution anyone against self-installation if they don't have access to a pretty wide selection of power tools and some fabrication experience.
If you want a 'solid step', this is a solid buy. 10/10 for sure!
I installed these in my '22 Winnebago 2225RL. The step and installation are super simple. Including taking out my old steps, it took me 30-40 minutes total including adjusting the locking mechanism.
The installation instructions are really easy to follow. I didn't have to remove my old threshold, but that is not true for everyone. So check this first before you go drilling into anything. I attached some pictures to give a before and after view.
The installation went like this for me...Make sure you're rig is level. Make sure the hinge is folded closed before starting. Lay your steps out, center it in the door, and adjust the feet accordingly. Test your door! Test it several times to make sure nothing is going to bind and that you have clearance in all the right places.
You'll see one hole on either side of the Solid Step black threshold that allows you to drill and screw in your first two connections. Once those are complete, fold up your steps and adjust your locking mechanism so that it closes and latches correctly. After you've got everything working the way you want, install the remaining screws or bolts (based on your type of floor) and secure it all down. Enjoy your new steps!
Really good quality, definitely a step up from the original equipment that came on my open range 272 RLS. Definitely recommend to anybody considering the upgrade.
Pros: Steps were ordered and received in 3 days! Quality product, we love them.
Cons: They came by UPS in a box that had obviously been completely re-taped and a step leg sticking out of the bottom. Once package was opened we were missing screws, washers, lock washers and nuts. They come in a cheap plastic bag that is just dropped in the box and shipped. (Not the company's fault). I think the shipping dept could put these small items in a box and tape it directly to the steps. Otherwise highly recommend!
The steps are awesome! I've been thinking about these for a while now and was forced to make a decision as my original pull out steps on my Winne finally broke. etrailer has always been my go to for trailer parts. I watched installation videos and also followed their guidelines to ensure a good fit. Ordered the steps and they arrived quickly - the shipping box was pretty beat up but all the parts were there. Installed in about 1 hour with my sister's help and they fit perfectly. Best investment yet. Thank you etrailer!!
Ordered a set of these steps they arrived damaged, contacted etrailer they sent another set, they arrived damaged. etrailer wanted me to basically repair steps and source hardware for little compensation. I will never do business with etrailer again. 2 weeks of my time was wasted and now I have to purchase steps elsewhere.
My wife and I are both over 80 years old. We installed the Lippert rv step because it was getting difficult to get up and down the old steps. We added the hand rail. They were easy to install. I would recommend these to anyone. They are solid and well built.
I purchases this set for my 2018 Rockwood Roo BDS. I had to modify my sill plate slightly to get these to fit my camper perfectly. These steps are worth every cent. They are drastically more stable than the factory steps. The legs can easily be adjusted for unlevel sites and they easily fold up with one hand.
Very satisfied and the steps are holding up very well.
When I originally ordered the item, it was out of stock. Once it was received in stock, I received it within just a couple of days. The item was slightly damaged in shipping and missing some parts. But that is not on etrailer. I’m sure it was packaged at the manufacturer in a way to not protect the item very well considering rough handling during shipping. I called etrailer and they are sending me the replacement parts that I need. I appreciate their efforts.
Easy to install, if you use rv camp grounds they are great, I have a toy hauler and go off road and sometimes there is rocks, soft dirt even mud. When you put your steps up anything on those steps end up in your rv. I carry two small 6X6X1 plastic pads and that works most of the time. Thanks Russ
There are a few upgrades I have made to my camper that I sit back and think "why did I wait so long to do this?" This would be one of them. The stability and comfort of walking up these steps is incomparable to the factory steps. The ease of installation made this a no brainer. Why did I wait so long to replace the factory steps?
These steps have been a great upgrade for our camper. 1 year in and I couldn’t be happier with them- so much stronger and much more supportive than the original folding style that came with the camper. If you’re thinking about getting these - just confirm your doorway size and go for it.
One of the best upgrades we ever made to our RV!
Etrailer has always been a great to purchase from
took alittle bit of adjustment to get screen door to close but overall a great product very pleased
Had these for a year now and love them. Only issue was a few parts were bent in shipping, but was able to fix easily. Having these steps with the hand rail in winter was a game changer. Finish is holding up a year later and me and my wife full time
Order came right away. Exactly what I was looking for. It yolks 10 minutes to install. 100% superior to Morryde POS. All the steps are sturdy and you have piece of mind going up and down the stairs with your hands full or with the big dog. The other guys had a big gap in between step 2-3 and your foot would go right through. It happens to me twice and my teenage son. Lippert steps are the way to go and I will never use anything else but Lippert product !!!
Unfortunately, the steps arrived the sameday my camper went to the shop for repairs. so I will not be installing these until we get the camper back. i normally give etrailer 5 stars but as the pictures show this box arrived with packing tape on the sides of the box , on the corners and accross the top where the box was damaged. I open the box to inspect and not sure what was included. With the stairs was a bag of screws. no instructions. I would suggest that the packaging needs to be improved. I hope once i start the install that the step are in working condition.
Hi all,
It’s been a year since we purchased our steps. I had slid down our old steps on a rainy morning so I came home and immediately ordered from etrailer (our go to source). I wanted a wide first landing step and this is perfect . It is adjustable to our various ground levels so that is a plus. . This is a very stable step. I would recommend it!

It is a shame that this step was difficult to install. Certainly not what we want to hear. We absolutely do recommend to measure between the door frame flanges and round up to the nearest even number to select the size that would fit. If the door is wider or narrower then we have other steps that will fit doors ranging from 24 inches wide to 36 inches wide. Also to make sure that your doors will close properly you will want to measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will want to have a gap of a quarter inch to three eights of an inch so that the door will close.
