Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will need to remove some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the provided fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Highly recommend. Rarely do I write reviews but both the trailer hitch & trailer light wiring harness installed perfectly. I wanted to take the time to let people know that this was a sincere review. I am not a mechanic nor an electrician but the instructions and YouTube videos made both installations a breeze. Plus I saved about $300 from the local "Rent haul" for installation. Thanks!

This is the 3rd hitch I have purchased from etrailer. All have been top notch and the installs all went very well. The wiring works great with my trailer.
I'm very satisfied and intend to use etrailer again in the future.

Service was outstanding, everything fit exact, and delivery on time. Most outstanding were the videos on how to install, spot on. Hitch took thirty minutes, wire harness forty-five This was on a Prius V. This will be used to pull a small boat , boat and trailer 600lb. Thanks for your outstanding help.

This rig did NOT include the chip to control the BRAKE lights...
I had to buy a second complete wiring harness and mix them before my trailer lights could be properly controlled. I am not happy...

You mentioned that the brake lights were not working on the trailer and I wanted to ask you a few questions. You also mentioned adding on separate harness. When you say the brake lights were not working do you mean to activate a brake controller?

I haven’t used it many times but when I did, it’s held up great. While installing, I ruined one of the little connectors and replaced at a local auto parts. Very inexpensive. Had a little trouble crimping but eventually got it. I’m not very mechanical but got it done!

easy install...works great

still happy...no problems at all...I would buy this product again if needed

Very easy and intuitive to install this trailer wiring harness. I had already watched the video, and am a retired industrial construction electrician. That might have made it easier, except about half of my install time was making sure I had the harness routed exactly as I thought best to keep it out of the way. My career may have made me a pick picky about that.

As I continue to buy things from etrailer, they continue to please me with service and quality of product.

I use the wiring harness about once a week to tow my boat trailer, and it is still quite easy to stow away when not needed.

very ez install

by:
2016 Toyota Prius v

The wiring harness was almost hassle free. The written instructions are clear, but the pictures are horrible. Small, dark, and impossible to correlate to the written directions. The “mechanical” parts of the harness are first rate. The HUGE let-down of the wiring harness directions is that there is ZERO mention of what to do with the pigtail that hooks up to the trailer. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Naaaadaaaaa! That would have been a seriously good bit of info to include, don’tcha think?

The 4-pin harness/connector is stored in the trunk/cargo area of the vehicle until needed. When you need to plug in a trailer, simply run the harness out the rear of the vehicle and gently close the rear hatch/trunk lid on the wire. The rear hatch of your vehicle has weatherstipping thats thick enough that the wire for the trailer connector wont be damaged as long as you avoid the latch area. The manufacturer specifically designed the harness in this manner so the connector would be deployed from the interior of the vehicle when needed. This way, the connector is protected from damage when its not being used.

Wiring harness installed as reviewed, no wire cutting, no guessing, plugged in-line with the rear lights and attached to the rear battery of my Prius. Easy Breezy.

It just doesn't get any easier! After watching the videos, my 22 year old daughter installed this on her car before moving to a job out of state after college graduation (degree in life sciences, not engineering).

So this kit was great. No splicing factory harnesses and had it ready to go in what seemed like minutes. The thing is I bought this over a year ago and I can tell you how smooth it went now.

I have kayak trailer that I pull with this, and wasn't too hip if I had to pull it at night without plugging in the lights. The cord tucks neatly into spare tire storage, so when not in use, it is nonexistent, but plugging it into the trailer is immediate. I just lay the cord flat in the seal and shut the tailgate.

The picture looks complicated, but this is a very easy install. I think you will enjoy it without needed a soldering iron.

by:

One of the simplest installs. Partially remove some plastic covers and install the T's in line. Replace the covers. Because the Prius has the battery in the back did not even need the included spool of heavy black wire that would normally be used for connections to batteries that are in the front of many vehicles. The only thing that I will changed is, that the yellow wire with the inline fuse was a little longer so that the fuse could be located in the spare tire well instead of the battery area to allow for easier access to the fuse. Other then that very happy with the wiring harness adapter and etrailer.

I received the hitch for my Prius V about 5 days after ordering it and it was a simple matter to unbolt the brackets from the car for the towing eye and the back muffler hanger. then bolt the hitch in place using the longer bolts provided with the hitch. Installing the trailer light adapter was simple also once I figured out how to remove the interior body panels to be able to run the wires. Simply install the light adaptor between the existing plugs and the tail light connections. Note that when you disconnect the battery to make the final connections, your satellite radio connection will be lost and if you have set up blue tooth for your phone it will need to be re-connected. All the trip meter and mileage meters will reset to zero except the odometer for the total vehicle mileage. The satellite radio connection will reload after about 10 minutes when the battery is reconnected and the car is running. Overall I would say this is a very good choice it you want to use a bicycle rack or have a "small" utility trailer you want to be able to use for short runs. The car is not designed to tow trailers for any long distance but using it for short light runs should not hurt the car.

Hitch arrived with one end poking out of the box thanks to rough handling from UPS. It was well packaged and luckily the wiring harness I had ordered was stretch wrapped to the hitch so it didn't fall out of the open box. Only took about 20 minutes to install the hitch myself and another 20 minutes to install the custom wiring harness for the Prius V. Terrific instructions and on-line videos to support the process. Keep in mind I had an air compressor, air tools, and mechanical and wiring experience from working in a diesel shop in my youth. Terrific products and support, if you do need any help-just call and the etrailer staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. This is the second time I've bought a hitch from etrailer.

by:

Got this a year ago for my 2015 Prius V. and I nstalled it myself quite easily. I use it for a bike rack since the Prius is not designed to tow. Although I also towed an empty Ubox with it a short distance with no hills (this would have been bad for the car, not the hitch). Works great.

by:

I'm so happy I came across your company. You had saved me money and money I did not have to spend with U-Haul installation for my 2014 Toyota Prius V. The electrical was easy to do. The pin is ok, but I have to learn the trick on how to remove and apply for my strength is not like a man. The picture on the instructions really helped my neighbor to install the hitch, for we could not see in the instructions the bracket had to be turned in the opposite direction after applying the hitch. And the order arrived quickly.

Overall, I'm very satisfied. The videos was a big help and I will be ordering my pin with the hole soon. Also, I will be checking out your other products. Thanks so much.

The trailer hitch installation went easily and the light electrical connections were simple. They have been just what what was needed for plenty recreational fun.

by:
2012 Toyota Prius V

I installed the hitch by myself. It took about 45 minutes as I had a bit of trouble trying to thread the bolts near the muffler. I took a bucket that head the hitch up for me to then get the bolts in. You video was great. It took about an hour to install the wire harness #118610, just because I did not want to hurry the install, and damage any of the interior. Again, I followed each step along with your video. All worked well and the install looks nice and clean.

by:

Wiring harness arrived quickly. Between instructions that came with the harness and the online video linked from the etrailer description of the harness, I was able to successfully install the wiring harness in my car.

by:
2015 Toyota Prius

This hitch is very good. installation is a breeze. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I think it hangs down a little farther than it needs too. On a Prius v, there is 1-3/8 inch clearance between the hitch and the bottom of the bumper. In my opinion, it should tuck up closer. Other than that, it is perfect.

by:

The installation took less than 20 minutes. Since I am familiar with removing the plastics...that does help. The kit appears to be well made with quality products. I like the fact it comes with a fuse and hope it will protect the electronics if there is a wiring short in a trailer.

Always great service from etrailer and super pleased with my new hitch and wiring kit.

by:
2014 Toyota Prius V

Wiring was very easy to install. Instructions were much more complicated than the actual installation. Once I read it all over and then actually looked at the vehicle, it was very easy to install. I did not need to remove the trim panels and just fished the wires under them to the tail lights and hooked everything up. Very easy!
