Hitch, Wiring & Related Items for 2012 Toyota Prius V
Question:
Hi! I have a 2012 Toyota PriusV and I am very likely going to be picking up a vintage tear trailer on 2/3. I have been told that the trailer is approximately $800. Can you tell me exactly what I need to equip my car for this? Thank you.

We do have the items required to equip your 2012 Toyota Prius v to tow a trailer. These include a Class I hitch receiver, a ball mount, hitch ball and a wiring harness to operate the lights on the teardrop. The linked articles may be helpful.
For a hitch I suggest the Draw-Tite # 24847 which offers no-drill installation as shown in the linked video. With it you can use ball mount # 3593 and either 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258. Check the coupler on the trailer for the ball size it requires; this should be stamped on the coupler.
For a wiring harness you can use Tekonsha kit # 118610. This provides a 4-pole flat type of trailer connector and it installs by plugging in at your taillights and by connection of one single wire at the battery. All the parts needed to install the harness are included in the kit. A video and help-article are linked to help you with the wiring installation.
One other item you might consider is a set of towing mirrors like # KS3990 which clip right onto your stock mirrors to give you a wider/longer view of the trailer and what is behind it.
I suggest you review your Prius V owner's manual before towing the trailer.
