To determine where to splice into your Mazda CX-9's tail light wiring, you will need to consult the included instructions. Use the quick-splice connectors to attach the input wires of the tail light converter to the corresponding wires from your Mazda CX-9. Once you've spliced in the converter, connect the included hot lead to the black wire and run it up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Then locate a flat surface inside your Mazda CX-9 near the tail lights and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Find a raw metal surface to use as a ground point and secure the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and screw. Finally, secure the converter wires to your Mazda CX-9 using the included cable ties.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on the 4-pole connector to help prevent corrosion.
Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the signals from your Mazda CX-9 may have to be converted to be compatible with your trailer's wiring. If your Mazda CX-9 operates on a 3-wire system, which means that it has separate brake and turn signals, then those signals will need to be combined so that they run on 1 wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. This converter will also ensure that your trailer's lights illuminate fully, even if your Mazda CX-9 has pulse-width modulation (PWM) wiring. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your Mazda CX-9 operate.
This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

A small torx is required.
Per video my wiring on left side is correct Red to the Yellow/Black, Yellow to the Blue/Green. Test tool (as seen in video) shows nothing when brake pedal pushed; brake indicators on tester both light up when running lights are on, but the running lights indicator does not light up.
Blinker indicators on tester are correct.
Have done the training cycle 6 times, slowly.

Hi. Turns out the video for the 2013 x3 is correct, for my 2017. Brake and tail lights on separate wires.
For my application, a 2021 Mach-e, this required cutting and splicing into the LED tail lights. I went back to the interweb and ordered one that was plug and play and did not require splicing. Yes, there is a video where a guy identifies exactly how to install this particular kit on the Mach-e, but it was just a bridge too far for me. The plug and play wiring works great and was easier to install. The plug and play wiring took about 80% of the installation time, the hitch itself took about 20% of the install time.

I am sorry that this harness was a bit more complicated than what was expected to get installed. I would go with the plug and play all day. Unfortunately, the only harness we have for your 2021 Mach-E that is a plug and play option is part # TK24VR, which is currently on extended back order. This means, that we are waiting, but do not have a date that our shipment will be in, so we took the part off of the site for now.
I'm sure the wiring is fine. However, I bought from etrailer because the product support was supposed to be great. We can't figure out which wires to attach to. Yes, I've read instructions. Yes, I've used a multimeter and test light. Yes, I've posted in forums. Yes, I've spent hours looking online. No dice. I even had an electrician give it a go to determine what to splice. I'm injured so can't walk, making some direct instructions on which wires to splice more important at this time. I can't keep removing the lights, etc. and reinstalling them when I can't ID the correct wires. I told them this on the phone when I ordered. They seemed supportive. When I repeatedly asked for which wires to splice the response was something akin to, "We don't know. Figure it out."
Two thumbs down. Received great support from a different online supplier.
After one year of use, the hitch receiver continues to hold up great. No rust, flaking, or any other signs of damages.
Install took longer than I was expecting, but doesn't it always?
Installed easily. Kia should have a plug in option so that you don't have to run wiring all the way to the battery. But installed fine, well detailed by etrailer.
This works great and people can see the brakes turn signals and tail lights when we have the bikes on the back of the car. We put this on so we could plug a portable lighting system in for our bike rack.
I have a small convertible Buick. Almost no one would put a trailer behind this car. But I use it to pull my jet ski. It was great to have this connector. It works perfectly.
Terrible job packing hitch. See pics. Hitch has deep scratches through paint. Won't purchase from trailer again.
Your installation video was great. I don't think I could have found the correct wires without it. The Curt instructions were not clear in determining which wiring scheme the Pacific has. I still don't know what PS stands for in their chart, but your video explained it nicely.
I had this wiring harness professionally installed. Works as it should.
Overall easy to install. Takes a few hours. The instructions could use updating. Vehicle years and trims (bulbs vs led) had wire colors that didn’t match any instructions or videos.
We had to ask a friend for the correct testing equipment, to locate the wires.
It took us about 3 hours to do it properly, without any experience.
I do wish there was a better video with better directions. But we figured it out.
The wiring harness doesn't quite work as advertised. I followed the provided instructions. Now when I turn on the left turn signal on my 2024 Kia Telluride, the left side trailer running lights also flash with the turn signal. The right side turn signal works correctly. Harness installation was a huge PITA. I blame Kia for not having a plug and play like my 2022 Santa Fe had. I had to remove both tail lights, splice into the factory wiring then run a power wire from the rear to the car's battery in the front. Again, a huge PITA but that's Kia's fault, not etrailer. Except for those things, I would've given more stars.

Yes, I would say powered hardwire harnesses are a tough install. I want to help do little trouble shooting with you. Can you check the area where you grounded the wire to make sure that it is to bare metal. If it is a clean, metal location already, disconnect the ground wire and attach it to a long piece of wire. Run this wire to the vehicle's negative battery terminal for testing purposes. If this solves the issue, the ground wire can be permanently run to the negative battery terminal or moved to a new location. I am hoping that this will stop the left turn signal from flashing on the trailer.
The product works great but the instructions were a little hard to follow for a newbie. I did eventually get it going but I needed to consult my mechanic (YouTube) to get it all figured out.
What a great experience. The wiring harness kit was easy to install, and the people at etrailer were courteous and happy to answer my questions. They got right back to me and saved me lots of time. It’s very rare to get service like that anymore.
BTW, the unit works very well.
Thanks etrailer.
My son said this is the part I needed so I guess it's good but my son, the mechanic said it's not what I needed. I guess it was too much so need to return.

Sure! I've got your information sent over to customer service to get the return processed. Yeah, that is the only confirmed universal option that we have for your 2018 Volvo XC60, I wish it was a bit less expensive and that there was an easy plug and play option for your vehicle. Some mechanics do carry some OEM parts for trailer wiring for vehicles; maybe see if your son is able to help you find an OEM harness. It may be a bit expensive, but you could always reach out to a Volvo Dealership to get an OEM harness.
It’s a great product. We pull the small trailer from California to Missouri. No problems at all just like factory.
I received the Trailer hitch, and I was able to put on my 2011 Mercury
Marqui all by myself with the assistance of three jacks. I completed
the job in my garage at home. I did watch the videos on u-tube about
6X. I am very happy with the trailer hitch.
Worked as advertised. Used on a Honda Element. I would recommend to others.
2023 Hyundai Palisades are unique. Your website indicates that this item works for the 2023 Palisade, but according to a lady in your office, it only addresses the lights on the trailer, but does not disconnect the automatic braking system built into the Palisade in the event of a rear end collision that applies the brakes when it senses an obstacle (read boat trailer). Very frustrating!

I have a fix for you. All you need to do is turn off that feature in the vehicle while towing. I have a Hyundai and you will just need to play around in the vehicle menu system to find it and turn it off. I recommend reading up in your manual the section on towing. There may be other features you have that you will want to disable.
If you need something trailer/towing related, e trailer has always been great for me. This product worked great for my 2024 Kia telluride xline trim.
Fantastic and great video by on how to B install
A little tricky to install, but the videos they provide do a great job of explaining what needs to happen. (2019 Ford EcoSport.) The wire clips are a little finicky... had issue with one side, but managed to get it working.
Once I understood I had a 2 wire system in my 2022 BMW X3 the installation went well. The green wire for the right tail light is too short and I had to splice on an additional 2' of wire.
Works great when installed correctly according to the instructions.

You will need to double check and make sure that your ground wire is attached to a clean metal surface. If you are grounded properly, and still have no lights, then you will want to test the converter box itself. If you are receiving power to the box and nothing out of the box, then it is possible that you have a defective box.
