Note: Do not use for overhead lifting. This load binder is designed to work as part of a complete tie-down system. The overall capacity depends on the safe working load limit (WLL) of the chain(s) that you choose, as well as the capacity of the load binder itself. The item being tied down must not exceed the combined WLL of the lowest-rated components in the system.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Durabilt ratcheting chain binder for 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch size chain. Has a 7,100 pound working load limit. Now, the ratchet chain binders will increase the tension in a chain until it's taut using a twisting or ratcheting mechanism. The ratcheting binders are often viewed as a safer option cause they do not store as much energy in the handle, reducing the risk of recoil and harming the user.
These ratchet binders have the lever and the screw working together, which means it takes less pulling on the handle to apply tension to the binder. So, these are perfect for agricultural and industrial tie-down applications. The ratcheting mechanism right here, let me just zoom in so you can see it, makes it very easy to tension equipment. Allows you to safely remove the ratchet binder when finished. And it has a lever right here that will allow you to change the ratchet rotation.
So, if you push it this way, it'll allow you to go ratchet that way. If you push it down, you can ratchet the other way. If you notice on this one, on each end, has the alloy forged 3/8 inch size grab hook fittings, which will let you quickly connect to your chains. And the bearings will extend to provide extra reach when hooking the binder to equipment. The screw diameter on each one of those is 7/8 of an inch.
The continuous take-up feature provides a finite adjustment. Take-up length is about six inches. So, the distance between these two bearings when it's closed like it is now is gonna be about 20 1/2 inches. When it's unscrewed and fully opened, it's 28 1/2 inches. This is a nice steel construction.
It's very durable. Has a nice red paint finish you can see on the handle and on the barrel which is highly visible. And then if you notice on the eyes and on the hooks, has a nice yellow zinc finish to resist corrosion. This part will meet or exceed the FMCSA 40, CHP, CVSA, WSTDA, and the Department of Transportation standards. Application again, for this binder, is for chains with 5/16 of an inch to 3/8 of an inch thick links. Safe working load limit on this is 8,000, or 7,100 pounds. The proof load limit is 14,200 pounds. Now, the handle length from here to here, we put a ruler on it. Tape measure's gonna be right at 15 inches. The barrel length, this is the barrel, so if we measured here to here, it's gonna right at eight inches. And the total weight on this one binder is 9.8 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Durabilt ratcheting chain binder for 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch size chain, and it has a 7,100 pound working load limit..
