Video Transcript for Review of Durabilt Chain Binders - Ratchet Chain Binder - DU63MR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Durabilt ratcheting binder with the jaw and jaw fittings, and a 13,000 pound working load limit. Now a ratchet chain binder, like this will increase the tension in a chain until it's taught using this twisting ratcheting mechanism. The ratchet binders are often viewed as a safer option because they do not store as much energy in the handle. So it reduces the risk of recoil and harming the user. And ratchet binders have the lever and the screw working together, which means it takes less pulling on the handle to apply tension to the binder.

So this part is perfect for agricultural and industrial tie-down applications. I'm a zoom in and show you a closer. Basically right here, the ratcheting mechanism makes it very easy to tension equipment. Allows you to safely remove the ratchet binder when finished, and the lever right here, if you push down on it, allows you to change the rotation of the ratcheting. Push it this way, it'll go the other way.

Now the jaw fittings on each end right here, this will let you quickly connect to anchor points that can open. On this one here, the eye hole diameter, which is the measurement right here, or the throat opening is about one and a quarter inch, on each, either one. And the bearings themselves extend out, so you can twist them to extend them out to provide extra reach when hooking your binder to equipment. The screw diameter right here, you can see as we twist these they'll come out. Same on that side.

Diameter of that screw is about one inch. So the continuous take-up feature will provide a finite adjustment. The take up length is about eight inches. Basically right now I have both of them closed or tightened all the way in. So your distance between the bearings is about 17 inches.

If I twisted both of them open, you'd get a distance of 25 inches. Also, if you notice, you just twist this around and we'll show you right over here, you'll notice there's two zerk fittings, one on each side of the barrel, and that allows you to hook a grease gun too, and easily lubricate the threads of the bearings themselves. This is a steel construction, it's very durable. You can see the red paint finish, which is highly visible on both the barrel and the handle, and on the jaws on each end, it's a yellow zinc finish. Now this part does meet or exceed the FMCSA 40, the CHP, the CVSA, WSTDA, and the Department of Transportation standards. Few specs on this part. The safe working load limit, again, is 13,000 pounds. The proof load limit is 26,000 pounds. The handle length. So if we measure the handle from right here to the very end, its probably about 15 inch, or 15 and a half inches for the handle length. The barrel length, which is from here to here. You can see is right at 10 inches. And the total weight on this binder is right at about 13.4 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Durabilt ratcheting binder, with the jaw and jaw fittings. And it has a 13,000 pound working load limit..
