Video Transcript for Review of Optronics Boat Lights - Halogen Docking Light Kit With Switch - DL-16CC

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Halogen Docking Light Kit. Now docking lights are essential if you're going to be docking after dark. And this kit features two 35-watt halogen lights. And as you can see, I have them connected to power and I have them turned on already, and you can see just how bright they are with my studio lights on. But to give you a better demonstration of just how bright they are, I'm gonna turn my studio lights off here.

And as you can see, they are doing the job, they both have nice consistent light. Now let me go back to my wide view here and take one of these and shine it on the wall behind me. And as you can see, they do a pretty good job. And I think they're gonna do a great job for you is, if you're looking for a good set of docking lights to put on your boats. And I'm gonna go ahead and turn my lights back on.

And go back here for a close up view. If you notice, this also does include a lighted switch. So when you have this turned on, the switch will light up. It's gonna work very easily there for you. And when you turn it off that, switch will not be illuminated anymore.

So the switch is included. And these lights are enclosed in a black plastic housing. So this is gonna be resistant to rust, obviously, but it's gonna hold up to saltwater as well. And that housing feels pretty durable. And then the lens over the light itself is constructed of glass.

So that is a glass lens there, not a plastic one. And while we're here, let me give you some overall dimensions of these lights. So you can determine that this is going to work for your application. The overall width, we're sitting right at about six inches wide. And just the light face itself, looking at the height, we're sitting pretty close to three inches. But then if you include the post, we're sitting pretty close to four inches overall. So it'll be sticking up about four inches from where you mount it. And then the overall depth when you turn this around here, looks like we're sitting right at about two and three quarters inches deep. Now the post mounts are constructed of stainless steel, so they're gonna be corrosion resistant. You can see that there. And then these do include these rubber bracket boots. That's going to help protect the mounts there. Now you are going to receive hardware, right here, to install the switch, to mount the switch. And cable ties are also included to help secure your wiring. And speaking of wiring, I think you're gonna have plenty of wiring. Let me give you another view here real quick. I kind of have it just all unraveled here as I connected these lights and the switch to a power source. But I think you're gonna have plenty of wiring for your installation. And of course, this is going to be a hardwire connection to your 12-volt system. But overall, I think if you're looking for a good set of docking lights to help you see in low light or dark conditions, this would be a good set for you to consider. I think the installation is gonna be very easy. And the operation is gonna be very simple as well. That's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me..

Awesome. Arrived super quick. (2 days)
Plenty

Works great. Not the easiest for vertical mounting but I made some bracket extensions because of my roof overhang.

One the package came mangled and crushed. Two package says it comes with 30 ft of harness. it does not. It only comes with 5 ft of harness and the harness is not adequate for the voltage. Three the wiring diagram for the switch is backwards. For the switch is supposed to be waterproof it is not. Absolutely do not recommend purchasing this kit is a piece of junk. You can take my word for it I'm a certified Master mechanic and a garage owner.

by:

These Halogen Docking lights were delivered very quickly and I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and completeness of this set. Included with the lights was a generous length of marine electrical wire, connectors and a quality switch with a wiring diagram. Very easy to install. The only disappointment is with the bellows-style covers that fit loosely on the base of the lights partially covering the mounting brackets, although the brackets/screws are stainless and the lights are waterproof. Just an aesthetic thing. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase.

by:

Bought these to mount on the light arch on our 15' Zodiac tender. Lights are nice and bright and really help when docking at night. I would suggest using a 1/4" drill bit instead of the 5/16" bit they recommend. 1/4" was plenty big enough to fit the bolts through. There was ample wiring provided to connect it to the steering console. The screw holes on the switch seemed a fraction too small and it made screwing it to the console difficult. Overall, great value!

by:

Light keeps tilting down after installation. If you over tighten the bolt it will crack the plastic mounting piece

by:

Replacing the same fixture, had two broken lens. These lights work great on the river, light up 1/4 mile on the water. Have them on console switch so don't blind the other boaters. The option to buy replacement lens on the wedsite would be nice, but the price for new is good too.

by:

the product was for a 2001 hurricane boat that had docking lights on boat deck ,
boat is 17 years old original lights were worn out , product seems to be a replacement, shipping and handling was great. the

by:

Order was easy delivery was on time! Will definitely order from this company again if needed. This was an order to replace a broken trailer light on our pontoon boat. It was the exact replacement set.

by:

These people are extraordinary! I have done business with tens of thousands of retailers and when a mistake from th ed manufacturer was discovered they not only took care of it in the proper manner but with the utmost kindness!
Thank you!

by:

Product is exactly what I wanted and for a decent price.

by:

These lights were easy to install on my radar arch, look great in the color of white to match the boat!

by:

Product performed as described.

by:

The exact light I was looking for to replace the one that cracked on my t-top. And The package arrived before the due date! How's that for service? Ask for George, he's the king of customer service; something that is really lacking these days at most of the stores I patronize.

by:

Product is a good value for the price. Basic quality, but works fine.

  • Installation Instructions for Halogen Docking Light Kit, # DL-16CC.
I can certainly provide you some installation instructions for the Halogen Docking Light Kit, # DL-16CC. First, drill a hole at the desired mounting locations, slip on the rubber boot cover, then install the lights using the included hardware. Disconnect the battery to avoid short circuits/electrical shock. Measure the wire needed to install the lights on your boat and cut the red wire into the lengths needed. Place the plastic terminal covers onto the wire and attach the corresponding...

  • Optronics Halogen Docking Lights Part # DL-16CC
The Halogen Docking Lights, part # DL-16CC are water resistant in that they can withstand being sprayed or splashed. They are NOT submersible. I would not recommend installing them in a location where they would be totally immersed.

  • How to Wire Up the Switch of the Halogen Docking Light Kit DL-16CC
On a boat you would want to ground docking lights # DL-16CC to the negative battery terminal. The pin on the top of the switch runs to the ground, the middle supplies power for the lights, and the bottom pin runs to the positive post of a battery through a fuse.

  • Wiring the Switch for the Halogen Docking Light Kit
Since the switch only has the 3 terminals, ground, power in, power out, only the power out would be split to the 2 different lights in kit # DL-16CC. There only needs to be one ground (negative) at the negative battery terminal and there is just the one 12 volt power source coming from the positive battery terminal.

  • Back Up Docking Lights for a 2007 Chevy Silverado Z71 for Hitching Up to a Trailer at Night
The Bully Bumper Mount Backup Light, # PL-807, uses a 55 watt H3 halogen bulb so the power draw is just about the same as a single headlight. But the light comes with its own wiring that you could run to a switch, # D16740, and connect the lights directly to the battery. Or, even better, get a light kit, # DL-16CC (35 watts), that comes with everything you will need. Or if you want to go the stealth route, you can use a back up camera with night vision, # 04928. It costs more but let's...

  • Correct Grounding Location for Halogen Docking Lights
Since the switch is lighting up, but the lights aren't coming on, it sounds like you have your power wires correct, but the problem is with the ground wire on your Halogen Docking Lights # DL-16CC. The black wire from the lights is the ground wire for the lights. There are a few ways you can go about grounding your lights. You could run a wire from each light's ground wire to the negative post on your battery, or ground it to the steel frame. You can use a ring terminal, like # DW05705-1,...

  • Dimensions of the Optronics Halogen Docking Light Kit
I went out into our warehouse and pulled a Halogen Docking Light Kit # DL-16CC to measure and see if it could be mounted on a vertical surface and found that the dimensions are: 5-3/4 inches in width 2-7/8 inches in height 2 inches in depth The mounting bracket of the lights pivots nearly 180 degrees and would allow you basically mount this on nearly any vertical or horizontal surfaces. Check out the video I put together for you that shows the measurements and the range of the pivoting...

  • How Replace Bulb on Optronics Halogen Docking Light DL-16CC
To change the bulb on the Optronics Halogen Docking Light, part # DL-16CC, you just remove the 2 screws that are on the front of the light, one on each side of the lens. You then need to pull the assembly out of the housing and on the back there is a small screw that needs to be removed as well. When that is removed the entire light assembly will be able to be replaced. The # DL-16CC kit uses two 35-watt halogen lights.

  • Where to Ground Docking Lights On a Jon Boat
On a boat you would want to ground docking lights # DL-16CC to the negative battery terminal. You will want the connections to be water tight as best as you can. Shrink tubing, electrical tape, and even liquid electrical tape # SWC50122 will help protect electrical connections from water. You can also use dielectric grease, # 11755, between electrical connections. This special grease is hydrophobic so it will repel moisture.
