Video Transcript for CIPA Hot Spot Mirror Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA mirrors: rear view stick-on convex mirror. This one's 2 inches by 2 inches. Its part number is 49404. This mirror will help eliminate blind spots when changing lanes or passing. It's perfect for drawing 00:00:23 a camper or a trailer. It's also available in one that's 3 inches wide and 3 inches tall. Its part number is 49403.

If you need a little extra range on it, we have a wedge style convex mirror that measures 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inch. Its part number is CM49702. I'm first going to clean our mirror off with a little bit of glass cleaner, where we're going to stick it. Pull our backing off the back, get it into the position where we want it, and place it right on there. Now we'll go out on the road and show you how it looks. As you can see on this side by side comparison, our CIPA mirror offers us a much wider field of view. That will complete our look of the CIPA mirror, part number 49404.

Thank you for your review. This is a universal convex mirror that measures 3 inches by 3 inches. It is always a good idea to double check the measurements with your mirror to make sure that this fits properly.

  • Removing CIPA Hot Spot Mirrors
The best way we know of to remove a mirror like the CIPA Hot Spot Mirror # 49403, is to use something such as floss or fishing line to separate the mirror from the surface it is attached too. You can slide the line behind the stick on mirror and the surface it is attached to and work the line side to side and through the adhesive to remove the # 49403 mirror. It is common for some adhesive material to be left on either surface after the mirror is removed. When I spoke with my contact...

  • How to Remove Blind Spot Mirrors and the Adhesive that is Left Behind
To remove the Hot Spot Mirror # 49403 you could take floss and put it behind the mirror surface and then work the floss back and forth putting pressure on the adhesive, like you were flossing your teeth, until you have worked through all the adhesive and the mirror comes off. To remove the adhesive residue from the mirror there are a few different methods. You could use alcohol, wd40 or cooking oil on the adhesive and then scrub it till it all comes off.

  • Are the Adhesive Pads on the CIPA Hot Spot Convex Towing Mirror Replaceable
I spoke with my contact at CIPA about the problem you are having with the Hot Spot Mirror, # 49403. She stated that what you can use is some double-sided 3M tape. This is basically the same thing used on the mirrors and may actually be a little stronger. Make sure that before putting the tape on the back of the hot spot mirror that you remove the old pad completely, clean it with rubbing alcohol, and allow it to dry. Do the same for the surface you want to attach the mirror to.

  • Can Wedge Mirror Be Mounted In Multiple Positions
I spoke with my contact at Cipa and they told me that the mirror can be mounted anywhere on the mirror of your 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. To make certain you place this in the best position for you, I would suggest you do not remove the cover on the mounting pad, putting something temporary like adhesive tape and placing the wedge mirror on your truck mirror to find the best location. Then remove the cover for the mounting pad and place the mirror in the spot that works best for you.

  • Where is the Best Place to Mount the hot Spot Mirror 49403
For the most coverage area viewable in the mirror I recommend moving it out as far as possible and at the bottom. So the lower outside corner is where I would put it. Before putting it in place for good, hold in place in various locations on the factory mirror and see what would work best for you.

  • Options for Improved Rear Visibility When Towing Trailer with 2007 Toyota Tundra
A blind-spot (or hot spot) convex mirror like the CIPA # 49403 and # CM49805 can be affixed to your factory mirror to give you your preferred view of the road and vehicles behind you. These will display the image of what is behind you based on exactly where you install it. Blind Spot Mirror # CM49805 can be installed on the bottom of your mirror if that is better for visibility. If you want to have a separate view for easier parking you might want to consider either a separate door-mount...

  • Will Hot Spot Mirrors Fit Drivers and Passenger OEM Mirrors?
The mirrors have a 90-degree angle on the bottom. It is shaped like the letter D. So when it is in the D position, it would attach to the passenger side mirror. For the drivers side, you turn the mirror so the D is laying on its straight side.

  • Removing Hot Spot Mirror From Mirror Housing without Damaging Mirror
To remove a hot spot mirror like the part # 49403 the easiest way to do so without damage is to get high test fishing line and "floss" the mirror off of the other mirror surface as that will easily take care of the adhesive. If there is any remaining adhesive residue an adhesive remover like Goof Off would work great to take care of it.

  • Best Mounting Place on a Vehicles Mirror for the Cipa Hot Spot Convex Mirrors
Typically the best spot for the hot spot mirrors, like the # 49403 you referenced, to be mounted are in the lower outside corner of the mirror like in the attached image. Depending on your vehicle and mirrors you may want to test out other locations before permanently installing the adhesive. One way to do this is with a double sided piece of tape and then sit in the drivers seat and adjust until in the optimal position, if it were me I would do it in a parking lot or an area where I...

  • Can CIPA Blind Spot Mirrors Be Re-Installed On Vehicle Mirrors
You can remove the Hot Spot Mirror, part # 49403 from your mirror and re-install it. You can use a piece of dental floss behind the mirror and work it back and forth until the mirror is free. Then use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue from the mirror is there is any and also the back of the # 49403. To re-install it on the vehicle mirror you can clean the place you want to install it and use some 3M double sided tape. This is basically the same adhesive used for originally installing...

  • Tips on Removing a Blind Spot Mirror Stuck On with Adhesive
Dental floss is what CIPA recommends. Fishing line, which is thinner and much stronger should not break, and is a viable option as well. Boiling water is not a good idea either because the heat can damage whatever the mirror is stuck on. I would use a hair drier to heat up the adhesive while you gently and gradually pull back on the mirror. Using that in combination with floss or fishing line should work great. The hair drier let's you control the heat and where it is pointed which is...

  • Where to Install the Blind Sport Mirror part # 49403 on Vehicle Mirror
When installing the blind spot mirror part # 49403 the closer you can install it to the outside of the mirror face will give you the best viewing angle. But what I would recommend is use masking tape (or any similar tape that's easy to remove) and mount it in a few different places so that you can decide which way works for you the best.
