Video Transcript for Yakima Same Key System Cable Lock Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima Same Key System nine foot cable lock, part number Y07233. The cable itself is a braided steel construction so it's going to be rugged and durable. It has a polyethylene coating so it's not going to harm our deer. Yakima stands behind their product and offers a limited lifetime warranty. One of the best features about the Yakima Same Key System is its ability to be keyed alike to your other Yakima accessories. However, the locking cores are sold separately. You can pick up a matching locking core etrailer.com part number Y07202.

It's a nine foot long cable with a loop on one end and an adjustable bolt all along the cable itself. It's super easy to use. We've got two examples here with us today. We've got the hitch mounted bike rack and we've got a roof mounted bike rack. I'll go ahead and show you a few examples. I'm going to take the loop end, run it through all my wheels, leave the lock out here for now.

Then, I'll come back here, I'll bring it around my bike rack and up through, back down and out towards the front. I'm going to run the loop in through the lock itself, back up, then grab the bolt and put that in place. There, as you can see, we've got all our bikes locked to our bike rack. You can also use it to lock your bike rack to your vehicle. I'll go ahead and show you that. I'll just take the loop end, I'm going to come down through the loop on my receiver, wrap it around my bike rack a few times, bring it through and then secure it to the bolt.

As you can see no one is going to be able to get our bike rack off. Finally, we can just secure our roof mounted bike rack. We can run it underneath our roof rack system, even underneath our side rails, through our bike and then attach it to the bolt. As you can see, not only is it keeping our bike down, it's keeping our bike rack down to our roof rack and our roof rack to our side rails. That's going to complete our look at the Yakima Same Key System nine foot cable lock, part number Y07233.

The bike lock came without a lock. I went to two bike shops and a locksmith, none of whom were able to provide a locking device. Therefore I have a piece of cable sitting in my garage doing nothing.

This cable lock comes with the empty lock housing so that you can use the lock core that would match with the other Yakima keys that you have. If you can tell me the key number of the Yakima keys that you have then I can tell you the lock core that you need.

The lock core that you need is part # Y8771-A148. If you do not have it then you will also need the control key part # Y8007835 to install the lock core.

The recommended cable lock for the Yakima TwoTimer that you referenced is the part # Y07233.

  • How to Lock Yakima JayHook Kayak Carrier # Y04084 to Trailer Crossbars
The mounting brackets for the Yakima JayHook Kayak Carrier # Y04084 are made of a durable plastic, so I'm not sure replacing the included hardware with standard bolts and nuts is the best idea. If you're worried about theft, what you could do is loop a standard cable lock like the Yakima # Y07233 through the mounting bracket and around the crossbar to secure it into place. This would make it pretty difficult (and time consuming) for a passing stranger to remove the carrier.

  • Yakima Cable Lock with Integrated Lock Core Recommendation
In order for the Yakima Lock Cable part # Y07233 to be functional you will need a lock core installed in it. This product is sold without a lock core for people who have other Yakima racks and want to install the same lock core number as what there other racks have. If you don't want to have to mess with picking out and installing a lock core you would instead want the part # Y07238 as this come with a lock core already.

  • Does the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar, # Y02531, Have a Locking Feature
The Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar, # Y02531, does not have a locking feature. It will remain at the length you set it to and will not extend or retract because it will be clamped around the seat and handle bars posts on a bike. I recommend a locking cable to secure the bike to the rack. You can use Yakima Cable Lock, # Y07233. I have included links to the installation details and a video review of the adapter bar for you to view.

  • Availability of Hitch Lock and Cable To Lock Hitch and Bikes on Yakima DoubleDown Bike Rack
To lock your bikes to your Yakima DoubleDown bike rack and to lock the bike rack to the hitch I would recommend the Yakima LockUp Hitch Lock and Cable, part # Y07238. This part will attach to your existing Yakima hitch bolt to lock the bike rack to the hitch and includes an integrated cable that installs in the bike rack arm and secures the last bike to the rack so none of the bikes can be removed from the rack. The locking cores are keyed alike and can be changed out if needed to match...

  • Will the Yakima HangOut 2 Bike Rack Fit a 2017 BMW X3
Yes, I checked with Yakima and can confirm the Yakima HangOut 2 Bike Rack part # Y02637 is a fit for a 2017 BMW X3 (All Models). If you want to add locks, you'll need the Yakima Same Key System Cable part # Y07233 and Yakima Same Key System part # Y07202. That said, there are some fit notes you need to follow below: Place the upper strap hooks at the top edge of trunk, hatch lid, or rear door. Outer/lower support frame rests on the lower portion of the license plate or well. When bikes...

  • How to Lock a Kayak to Yakima Mako Aero Saddles and a Roof Rack
Like you said the Mako saddles can be locked to the crossbars on the vehicle. But, to lock the kayak to the crossbars, you would need to use something like a cable lock, # Y07233. You can then get the saddles and this lock all keyed alike by changing out the lock cylinders using # Y07204. I have included a a link on the lock cylinders for you.

Yes, I confirmed with Yakima that the HangOut 2 # Y02637 will fit with your factory spoiler on your 2007 Mini Cooper S 3-door hard top. As far as the fitment, the upper hooks of the HangOut 2 have to be installed in "anchor mode." Not only does this installation method give you the best fit on your vehicle, it also provides a passive theft-deterrence measure to help prevent theft of the rack. I went ahead and attached a picture from the instructions that shows this easy process. If you...

  • Can I Use Yakima Accessory Housing Lock on an EZ Rec Rack
I may have a security solution for you, but the Yakima Accessory Lock Housing # Y07220 was designed to replace the knobs on Yakima accessories,. Unfortunately it has not been tested with an EZ Rec Rack and since we do not offer that product line, we really have no way of knowing whether or not it would work. I also wasn't able to determine compatibility when I checked out the EZ Rec rack. However, you could just use a cable lock like the Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Cable, 9' Long (Lock...

  • Comparison of Yakima TwoTimer and the Swagman Chinook Hitch Mounted Bike Racks
Function wise, the Swagman Chinook and Yakima TwoTimer racks are really very similar. The big difference between the racks is the fact that the Yakima rack is a bit lighter than the Swagman Chinook. Both racks are capable of tilting away from the rear of the vehicle with bikes loaded. Aesthetically speaking, I prefer the appearance of the Yakima rack and the buttons and latches feel more substantial. This is a completely subjective opinion on my part. Both racks lock to the hitch using...

  • Lock Recommendation to Secure Bike Wheels to Bike on Hanging Bike Rack
The lock cables of the Thule and Yakima bike racks would not be long enough to feed through all of the wheels of the bikes to lock them as well but I do have a solution for you. You could use the Python Cable Lock part # 8419DPF as it is a 6 foot long locking cable that would work well to lock the wheels. You would need to run the cable through the wheels and frame of your bikes so that they would also be locked. If you want keyed alike locks and cable lock, then the Yakima Same Key...

Yes, the Yakima HangOut 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount # Y02637 that you were looking at is confirmed to fit your 2019 Chevy Trax. This is a very easy-to-use carrier which allows you to simply load two bikes on the back of your SUV even if you don't have a trailer hitch receiver. I recommend adding Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Cable, 9' Long # Y07233 and Lock Cores # Y07202 to keep your bikes locked to the carrier, along with security strap # Y02623 to lock the carrier to your trunk to deter...

For a trunk mounted bike rack that will fit both your 2013 Toyota Venza and your 2018 Mazda CX-9, I recommend the Yakima FullBack Bike Rack part # Y02634 for two bikes or part # Y02633 for three bikes. This will be the most cost effective bike rack we have for you that will fit both of your vehicles. Although it is cost effective, it does not lack in quality. For mounting the Yakima HangOut # Y02637 on your 2020 BMW X3, the upper straps attach onto the top opening of the hatch (over the rear spoiler). The straps will put some pressure on your spoiler, but the etrailer team has tested the HangOut on your 2020 BMW X3, and it will safely allow you to transport your bikes on your vehicle without damage to the spoiler. • Recommended Hitch Mounted Hanging Bike Rack for RV Use
It's not that we don't recommend Thule or Rhino-Rack bike racks for RV use. It's that many bike racks are not approved by the manufacturer to be used on an RV. The long wheel base of an RV causes more bouncing around and a bike rack not made for that type of movement will not hold up to the additional strain on it. I like the Yakima LongHaul # Y02476.
