Video Transcript for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack Fat Tire Straps Review

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline, and today we're taking a look at the Fat Bike Tire Straps for your Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack right here at etrailer. This sits on top of the ramp even more so than the thinner tires. We're here with a four inch tire. We can't even get close to that lever so this is a no-go. And that's where these Fat Bike Straps can come in handy. So what you're gonna need here is, you do have two straps included, so enough for one bike, but you are gonna have to use a three millimeter allen key, as well as an eight millimeter wrench.

So get that wrench in place and then loosen that bolt. Put your new strap on the bolt and then tighten it back down. And once you have your strap fully installed, you can see how it now secures your wider tires. And just like that, you're able to replace the straps on your Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack. If you just need to replace the factory straps with the same size, we have those as well.

If you want the Fat Bike Straps, perfectly fine too. We do have on our product page different tire sizes where we recommend replacing them. Sometimes you have 3.5s, but you also have to 29s, and then that's when you need the larger straps. Or you have smaller tires, but they're also fatter. So as long as you have the right tools, it's an easy job..

The longer straps made a world of difference in setting up the bikes by myself. That you for your help. I took them for a ride over a bumpy road and they stayed solid as a rock

The fat straps we ordered solved our problem perfectly. We have an electric fat tire bike that did not fit on our bike rack because the straps were too small. We ordered fat straps from etrailer and all is well! etrailer was great to work with and very responsive when we emailed with questions.

by:

These straps are every bit as strong as the original smaller straps. Kind of wish Yakima would just through them in with the original purchase. Highly recommended!

The straps are great. Lead time was excessive, but that is Yakima's problem.

  • Will Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack For 2 Electric Bikes Y36FR Work With Standard Non-Electric Bikes
The Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # Y36FR you were looking at will work perfectly fine with non electric bikes, as it has a maximum weight capacity of 66lbs per bike and you would be way under that. The # Y36FR is designed for bikes with tire 3-1/4" or less, so if your bikes have tires wider than 3-1/4" you will need the Fat Tire Straps for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack # Y23FR as well. • Can I Transport A Bike With 3-3/4 Or Wider Tires On My Yakima OnRamp
The reason the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount, part # Y36FR, does not work with tires that are wider than 3.25" is because the wheel strap is not long enough. If you switch out the straps that come on the rack for the Fat Tire Straps for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack - Qty 2, part # Y23FR, you will be able to transport your e-bike with the 3-3/4" tires. While this really is your only option it is also a great option regardless due to how nice the bike rack is. • Recommended Bike Rack with Ramp for E-Bike with Fenders
I do have an option but wheel mount bike racks cannot be used on bikes that have fenders even if they are short fenders which only extend over the tires a few inches. Therefore, you'll have to use a frame mount bike rack and if you're looking for one with ramps, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack part # Y36FR with Fat Tire Straps for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack part # Y23FR. The step-though frame won't be an issue for this rack and neither will the weight.

  • Need Bike Rack for 2 eBikes to Use on Travel Trailer
For a bike rack that is rated for travel trailers and with a weight rating for heavier ebikes, I suggest the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes, # Y36FR. From information available to me, it appears the Specialized COMO 4.0 weighs in at about 48 lbs. This has a weight capacity of 66 lbs. per bike but rated at 40 lbs. when used off-road or on an RV. Please verify, but you should be fine with the weight if you remove your battery pack when carrying the ebikes on the bike rack....

  • Are Fat Tire Straps Needed for 3.3 Inch Tires on Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack
Even though your tires are just slightly larger at 3.3 inches than the 3.25" the OnRamp is designed to work with, I do recommend adding the Fat Tire Straps for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack # Y23FR. The issue is that tires that wide could mean there isn't enough room for the straps to fully latch, so even though you may be able to get them to work with the standard straps, it is a good idea to get the straps just to know for sure your bike is safe and secure.
