Video Transcript for Review of Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch - Replacement Head and Crossmember - RP30047A

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this replacement hitch head assembly with the crossmember head support for the Reese 16,000 pound 5th wheel trailer hitch. Now, this is a replacement hitch head assembly and crossmember head support that fits the Reese 16,000 pound 5th wheel trailer hitch. And it will include everything shown here on the table. We'll start with the head assembly.

It's attached to a pivot beam. And then that's installed into this head support crossmember right here. Does come with all the installation hardware you need right over here. And it also comes with the pull pins and clips that allow you to attach this to the 5th wheel. And a nice set of instructions that'll describe how this all goes together.

Now, this hitch uses a two-jaw locking system, provides a more jaw to kingpin contact than the slide bar models. That dual jaw locking system will completely surround the kingpin for significantly reduced wear, less rattle, and greater security. The head is a four-way pivoting head. You can see it'll go side to side and front to back. And this does have a black powder coat finish to help resist corrosion.

The extended handle right over here has a nice, cushioned grip on it, and it is a locking handle. You can see that when it is in the closed position, you can actually flip this lever up and put it fully closed, and then these holes will line up and you can put a padlock through there. Now, the padlock is not included. You would have to supply that. But that would lock it and keep anybody from opening or closing your hitch.

And then just lift that up and then you're ready to activate. Now, the base legs that this crossmember will bolt onto, those we do sell separately on our website. They're listed on this product page as related product. They're part number RP30727. Again, a few specs on this, the gross towing weight capacity is 16,000 pounds, and the vertical load limit or tongue weight capacity is 4,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this replacement hitch head assembly with the crossmember head support for the Reese 16,000 pound 5th wheel trailer hitch..

Other than having to order 2 hitches because 1 got "damaged in shipping" the replacement crossmember and head was an easy install. BUT I am surprised that all the contents were in the 2nd shipment because look at how I received the shipment. The shipping department needs to do a better job. You guy's should use more and stronger tape on a shipment that weights 82lbs. : )

I had an old 15k head and all I had to do is pull the pins and move the rails in 1 spot and put the pins back in and put the new RP30047A on. The total job took 20 mins.

Great pricing and I have been in contact with Amy in CS to get an refund on my 1st shipment that was damaged and shipped back per UPS.

  • Can Head of Reese 15k Hitch Be Replaced with 16k Head
If you had a previous version of the Reese hitch part # RP30047 which was rated for 15k and wanted to upgrade it to the 16k version you'd need the kit part # RP30047A which is the head and crossmember. We've had this question before and have confirmed that this is the correct way to go about it with Reese in the past.

  • Can Reese Slide Bar Fifth Wheel Hitch be Upgraded to Dual Jaw 30047

  • Recommended Replacements/Upgrades for Reese 30047 Fifth Wheel Hitch
All three options would work for you. You could remove your existing fifth wheel head from the slider and replace it with the # RP30047A replacement head unit. For option 2, you could replace the existing hitch/slider unit with the Reese # RP30075. This would include a new 16K capacity head and a round tube slider. The round tube slider is an improvement over the square tube. It will work more smoothly and won't bind if you're trying to slide the hitch while on uneven pavement. Valley...

  • Towing a Trailer Rated for 15,500 Pounds with A 15,000 Pound Rated Hitch
Congratulations on the purchase of a new RV. For safety reasons, I can not recommend the setup that you are suggesting. Even though your, # 30046, hitch is rated to tow 15,000 pounds, the potential to overload the hitch exists. I would recommend upgrading your 15k hitch to at least a 16k model. There are two models that you can use to upgrade your existing hardware to either 16,000 pounds or 20,000 pounds. The Replacement 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch Head, item # RP30047A, would use your existing...

The replacement head part # RP30047A could be installed on a slider base that the part # PS30099 was installed on and would provide you with a 2 jaw system that would be an improvement over the slide bar of the # PS30099. You should note that when properly installed the slide bar of the # PS30099 should not allow a trailer to come disconnected. The latch must not have been slid close all the way or the trailer was high-pinned.

  • Can a Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used with a Sidewinder on a 2006 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
A slider hitch with a Sidewinder can be used on your 2006 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed, but you will have to lock the slider hitch to keep it from moving. A Sidewinder cannot be used on a slider hitch that will slide because sliding the king pin back with the Sidewinder attached can cause the pin weight to be too far back on the vehicle. This will cause unsafe conditions such as reduced steering performance and overloading of the rear suspension. Another option, depending on which...
