Video Transcript for Lock Rack Ladder Rack Adapter for Lockrack Watersport Carrier Review

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we have the lock rack ladder rack adapter for your lockrack carriers. So if you wanna carry around not just kayaks or surfboards or paddle boards, but also ladders every now and then, this is gonna be the adapter that you need. This can work with your current lockrack base and carrier or you can get it on its own. All you need are the arms appropriate for your ladder. We'll talk about that as well as the other different features, how to install it, how to put your ladder on this rack all here at etrailer.com.

Now, this is how you put your ladder onto that ladder rack adapter. So with this, you do have to lift it a little bit higher than your actual crossbars because the adapter is in the way and you need to fit the rungs over it. But once your ladder is in place, you then just push the ladder in so it's on the base, and then adjust the arms accordingly to cinch it down. The rubber pads on these arms provide grips around the ladder and it is gonna be wider in the back than it's in the front. So just pushing on the arms until it no longer clicks.

So this is what your adapter kit is going to look like without the extra arm sold separately. You're going to have your base that is 16 inches wide. And for the rear base, you're also going to have this adaptor mount. So this fits into the rungs of your ladder. So that way, the arms prevent that side-to-side movement of the ladder.

But just in case, this mouth is gonna prevent the forwards and backwards movement if, by any chance, the ladder gets past those arms. The arms on themselves or by themselves work really well for securing that ladder from the side, cinching it down, creating that nice fit. So just like for your kayak, you don't need those middle straps. For your ladder, you don't need them either. To secure your ladders, you also have locks.

And this doesn't look like your normal lock and key set up, but rather it's a special lock that requires this key to rotate the bolt on the inside. Once that bolt is rotated, it then releases the arm. So this is also how you make your adjustments for ladder widths. And you may be wondering, "All right, what's the largest ladder "or what types of ladders can this carry" Well, this can carry most ladders because it has a lot of adjustability for those arms. But for those really small ladders, if they are less than 16 inches wide especially toward the front base, then this is not gonna be able to secure it. So definitely ideal for your medium to large size ladders. On pretty much all the touchpoints of the ladder, you have a rubber grip. So there's rubber on that base as well as the arms. Now, for your kayaks and paddle boards, that rubber is appreciated because it prevents scratches and scuffs from forming on those kayaks. In the case of the ladder, we don't really care about scratches that much, but it does a really good job of gripping it and preventing it from sliding forward or side to side or up and down. Now, even with that good old shake test of the ladder, let's also take this outside and drive it on our test scores so that we can see how it performs in different situations. We have speed bumps where they're alternating speed bumps. So you can see that diagonal movement of, if you hit a pothole or maybe you're going off of a curb. Then there's also the normal speed bumps with that up and down movement. Then we have our slalom where we make those quick maneuvers and quick turns. Here, you can really see how the ladder is held tight by those arms. So I'm gonna install the bases first and this is gonna be very similar to how you install the kayak carrier bases. Now, if you have a T-track bar, this is gonna be a lot easier. If you have a crossbar that doesn't have a T-track, you will have to purchase the adapters separately. Now, to install this, all you're going to need is a 10 millimeter socket wrench. Let's get started by getting access to our T-track system. Your T-track mount has a square plates, a circular washer, and then a nut on top. So lift that washer up and slide this square plate into your T-channel. For different crossbars, this channel might look a little different. So as long as you get it to slide through and it's secure, then you're good. So take the nuts off of the bolts of your T-track mount. And then once those bolts are off, you're then able to lift this base onto them. So it helps to line them up by putting them up against the base and that puts it where you can slide it on your channels, and then it fits very easily through. So put those bolts back on. And once you get hand tightened, that's where that 10 millimeter wrench is going to come in handy. (wrench twisting) To make it easier, what I do is I get the base and I just use that to line up the T-track mounts. And from there, I can then just take the nuts off the top, put the base over. Should fit straight through and put those nuts back on. And once your hands tighten these down on both sides, that's where that 10 millimeter socket will come in handy for fully securing them. (wrench twisting) The bolts tighten down. You're then going to cover them with the rubber pads. And since the bolts are in the way, you will not be able to slide them through. So this, you're gonna have to like pivot and pinch into the grooves until both sides are flush. For the front crossbar, we're going to do the two normal size rubber pads. Now, for the rear base, there's something special about this and that's because the adapter has to go in that one. So the adapter needs to slide through, which means it helps if your base is still loose so the bolts aren't in the wave. It also helps if you can remove the small panel piece in the back. And with all that done, you can then get your ladder rack adapter, lift up on the base, slide that adapter through to the middle, and then proceed as usual with tightening down those nuts. (wrench twisting) The base with the adapter bar is going to have a shorter rubber pad. Once all the rubber pads have been put into place, don't forget to put those plastic panel covers onto each end of the base. Now, get your set of arms and this is not included with your ladder adapter. That's because there are different arms available, short arms, long arms, extra long arms, depending on what types of kayaks or surfboards or stand-up paddle boards usually carry. So whichever of the arms you already have, if you don't already have one, I recommend the Universal X arms. You're going to slide those into the base. This goes on both sides. So that's a total of four arms. So when your ladder is on, you'll put the arm onto it to secure it. But if your ladder is not on, you can move these arms into the portable or compact position where they're folded down so you can drive down the highway with the arms down. This also makes it easier to load the ladder up, then you just take the arm off and switch it around once it's up there. So this is what our ladder rack adapter looks like all installed. But this right here right now was a look at the lock rack ladder rack adapter for your lockrack water sport carriers here at etrailer. My name is Evangeline and I hope you enjoyed the journey.
