I bought the YO5000 Load Stop brackets to use as gunwale brackets for carrying a 17 foot canoe. They are less expensive and simpler in design than the Yakima "gunwale brackets" that are also available. They are a very flexible and well designed bracket that gets the gunwales up off the crossbars and stabilizes your boat once you have it tied down across the bars and fore and aft to the vehicle frame. They also are flexible enough to snap right over the crossbars for easy mounting. However, if you are using a Yakima fairing on your bars and you are carrying something that is less than around 32.5" wide, the brackets and fairing clamps will interfere with each other. You could probably trim the ends of the blocks a bit if you're close to 32" or remove the fairing when you're carrying a narrow load, or place the blocks in-between the fairing clamps and carry the load off-center. I'll be making one of these choices when carrying my boat, which is 32" wide where it needs to mount on the front bar. The Yakima "Gunwale Brackets" look like they may have a shorter base which might allow for a narrower mount when using a fairing.

I ordered a Yakima ladder rack over the phone with this company. I received a confirmation e-mail to tell me the item was ordered. They also gave me an e-mail to tell me that product had been shipped out then to my surprise I received another e-mail that wanted to verify the product was received. I needed new foot pads for my Yakima towers and the new ones went on like a glove. I also do construction and I never knew about the item #Y05000 (Yakima LoadStop Brackets) for my roof rack crossbars, very impressive.

Nice product.
My 18.5 foot canoe was overhanging both ends of my SUV because the crossbars were only 3.5 feet apart. And, it was noisy at highways speeds. Also, not good for the boat.
This drydock works great, and the highway experience is much quieter. Seems sturdy and safe.

The key things to keep in mind when deciding if you can carry a load on your roof rack is the weight capacity of your roof and if the load can be secured. These have had issues with the load stops actually folding over while transporting canoes, causing the canoes to slip out.
