Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the JR Products Vent Installation Kit. This kit is going to allow you to install a vent, side mount vent, a plumbing stack, or a re refrigerator vent on your aluminum roof. And it's also going to allow you to make repairs to those applications. It's going to include 36 of these metal screws.

They are a flathead head.It's also going to come with eight feet of what the JR Products line calls Putty Tape. Most manufacturers would call it Butyl Tape. I'm not sure if maybe they don't use Butyl rubber specifically, and that's why they shy away from it. But it is pretty much Butyl Tape. All the installations I've helped with seems pretty much the same thing.

If you've never used it before, it's tacky, like putty. I would compare it to the mounting putty that I use to hold posters up with in my bedroom. It's just a little bit heavier duty. It's very sticky so it's going to provide the waterproof barrier when you install your vent and it's going to help prevent any water from leaking in through the gap there. It's going to seal up that gap nicely.This set is made here in the USA and it comes with a lifetime warranty from JR Products.

Now, if you are installing a vent or anything like that, I would say that the Butyl Tape or as JR Products calls it, the Putty Tape, it is just one of the barriers that you're going to need. I would recommend using some sealant on the outside, so your Butyl Tape will mash down in between the roof and your vent to create that seal.I would also recommend the sealing sealant on the outside, it's like a cork that you use to just make sure that none of the water even gets down to the Butyl Tape. We've got several different options here at etrailer.com. The one I prefer the most is the LaSalle Bristol XTRM brand. You can get it in either self leveling, which would be ideal for your roof mounted situations if you're installing the vent on your roof.

Self leveling is going to be more liquidy, I guess you'd call it and it's going to spread out more and seal. Self leveling, so it's going to level out. There's another option, that's the non-sag and that would be better for your wall side mount vents that are going to be up and down. Obviously you don't want that sealant to drip down like your self leveling would, so you can go with the non-sag. They've got both those options in either white or beige.You can find all those here at etrailer.com. Again, it's just another way of making sure that you're not going to have any leaks or anything like that around your vent. That's going to complete our look at the JR Products Vent Installation Kit..
