Video Transcript for Fastenal Tools - Hitch Tools - 814092 Review

Today we're going to review part number 814092. This is the Fastenal half inch nylon tube brush. This brush is great for cleaning out well nuts on your vehicle frames when you're installing a hitch, makes that install much easier. We use it here at Etrailer. This nylon brush has a nice metal design, has a loop handle on the end that help you hold it. It does use nylon filled bristles on the brushes.

This used in cleaning and deburring any of the well nut holes. Dimension on this, overall length, to give you an idea, it's going to be 8.5 inches. Just the brush itself, the bristles is 3 inches. The diameter is half an inch on the bristles themselves. Basically, what you'll use this for is you want to start by soaking the well nut bolt holes on the frame of your vehicle with a penetrating lubricant, and then let the lubricant soak in a while. Then you take this nylon wire brush, stick it up into the holes, move it around, and basically that'll scrub out the holes and free any dirt or rust from inside those holes.

It's actually very helpful on any vehicles that have a few years on them. Newer vehicles might not be as bad, because it didn't have time to build up. On some of the older vehicles, it's good to have this clean out anything in those well nut holes. You might have to do it a few times, but it should allow the bolts . You take one of the hardware bolts. Once you get it cleaned out, try it in there, make sure it threads in a lot easier.

It does save you a lot of time, makes the bolt fit more easy. That should do it for the review on part number 814092. This is a Fastenal half inch nylon tube brush.

It was very easy to install and it met all my expectations. The video on-line was very helpful in understanding the entire process before we bagan instalation. Ashley at etrailer was most helpful in making sure we got the right product for our car. Our plan is to use it exclusively to haul our bicycles around with us as we travel. We will definately look at the bike racks etrailer has to offer as well.

@Paul We're glad to hear that. If you're happy, we're happy!

The whole process from ordering to getting the hitch was awesome. It arrived a lot quicker than I thought it would. I have not been able to install it just yet due to a cold snap in our area. Daytime high of 15 degrees and no garage to work in, makes it too difficult to do it. I am anxious to get it put on the Rav4 . The only minor problem we had was the carton was taped up by UPS due to the hitch breaking out of the carton on one side. The other side did start to a little bit. Would recommend them increase a little more packing material around the square mounting brackets to eliminate that problem. Otherwise, awesome !

works as expeceted

This was the third E-trailer hitch I have installed on my personal vehicles. Each time, I watched the on-line installation videos then installed the hitches in my driveway, by myself. They fit perfectly every time. I also installed the wire harnesses that also fit perfectly. Their staff is very helpful and available if you have any questions. I highly recommend E-trailer and their excellent products.

by:

OK for cleaning out dirt but if you have rusted threads in a frame bolt hole, you will need to step up your game.

by:

It arrived quickly and without issues. Haven't installed it yet , but it seems pretty straight forward.

by:

It's very solid, and supports our bike rack just fine. It was installed on a 2007 Toyota Sienna and I had to take it to our local auto shop because I didn't have a tap and die set to bore out the rusty pre-drilled holes. It does sit a little low, so be careful when backing up near curbs. You'll definitely scrape! Otherwise, very happy with it so far. Oh, and the shop had to adjust our exhaust a little bit because it hit the hitch receiver when we hit bumps.

by:

Was good to have to clean factory holes to make the installation easy.

by:

Good quality product.

I'm going to be completely honest and review this product from start to finish. Finding the "hidden hitch" online was extremely easy. Their website walks you right through finding the correct one for your vehicle and they have an enormous inventory of everything you could need for towing. I have a 06' Honda Odyssey. The videos were greatly helpful to watch before receiving the hitch so I knew EXACTLY what to do when installing the hitch. I decided to buy one and was genuinely excited to get this thing on our Honda. Their tracking service was accurate and informative, showing me where the package was with a picture of it moving across the states. Package arrived late in the evening (7:45pm) and the box it was in had been completely destroyed. Both ends of the box had to be heavily repaired with packing tape and there were holes, drag marks, etc all over this box. As for the product inside? It had plenty of scrapes, dents, dings, etc. Now this thing is solid steel so I wasn't really concerned about the cosmetic condition of the hitch. Just shows you that UPS does NOT care about your packages, when you receive them and will destroy them. You should package items like they are going into war. Used the spiral brush to clean the threaded holes on the frame of the Honda and used one of the bolts to make sure they would screw in quickly and easily.... they all did. Took 20 minutes to put the hitch on myself (I used a few small boxes to hold the hitch into place under the rear of the odyssey or there abouts until I could put in all the bolts, spacers and washers. The information on the install sheet was easy to follow and had all the vital information, like torque specs. Installing the wiring harness for the trailer was ridiculously easy. I thought it was going to be a hassle, cutting wires, dealing with electrical tape, trying to figure out where wires come and go, etc but it wasn't. I pulled off a panel and then the side panel. The wires literally just PLUG IN to a control box and the ground wire gets bolted (small bolt) to the grounding unit. Then you just run the wire along existing wires, zip tying along the way, feed the wires through to the spare jack compartment for storage. Then I had to just plug in a fuse, provided by them, into the fuse board and I was done. It took me about 1 hour to install the hidden hitch and the wiring harness and be completely tow ready....amazing. Overall quality of materials, wires, product: 10/10. Customer service, instructional videos, installation instructions: 10/10. Timeliness of purchase, shipping and installation: 10/10. Condition box/product was received in: 4/10. I would HIGHLY recommend this product and etrailer.com. It is a SOLID piece, easy to order and install to make your vehicle tow ready. This set up was the easiest thing I have EVER installed on a vehicle, very pleased overall with the end result. Here are a couple pics of the hitch installed and the trailer wiring harness ready to go.

I still have the hidden hitch. I just went to visit my friend and his parents for Xmas in Alabama two states away from my home in South Carolina. I told my buddy I was going to get back into fishing so he gave me his bass board that has been sitting in storage for 8 years. I didnt think the Honda Odyssey 06 could tow a boat... seemed definitely out of the soccer mom vehicles rep. Anyhow, it towed it fine. The ride was actually very smooth and had zero issues. Im glad I kept the hidden hitch after our move across the USA... came in handy for towing the boat. Great product, great site.... and also, the hidden hitch doesnt have any rust, damage or signs of aging... looks brand new after a little over a year. Highly recommended product.

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

by: 11/06/2023

Exactly what I needed.

by:

I was unable to find a brush like this in the local stores. I use it to clean the threads underneath the car where the bolts to the trailer hitch get installed. Essential tool especially if the car has some years and miles on it. I have used in conjunction with the proper size tap to ensure threads are clear and clean.

I used it on the day I installed the hitch. Havent had an occasion to use it since.

by:

Product arrived as advertised. Installation took 30 minutes. Fit and finish were perfect. I'm very pleased with the quality.

by:

We bought this little brush upon the advice of the trailer hitch "how to" video and I'm glad we did as one of the crud-caps had fallen off our truck's body-frame and it would have been a royal P.I.T.A. to get the crud out before cleaning otherwise. It's super-cheap, so if you're doing it yourself, spend the extra couple of bucks. Bonus ... we've reused it since the install to get crud out of other things, as well.

There was a lot of buildup on my undercarriage when I want to try to install the trailer hitch. This tool cleaned out the mounting holes without any problem and worked as advertised.

We were very pleased with our purchase, but we sold that vehicle a few months ago. The new vehicle has a hitch and the cargo carrier fits it nicely. I will definitely come back to your group for any of my future purchases. The hitch we had was on a 2008 Honda CR-V. I would caution any future customers that if they use a cargo carrier like ours, that they understand that the vehicle exhaust is in line with the carrier.

by:

Easy installation, low profile and excellent quality. Exactly what I was looking for in a hitch receiver for our 2021 Pilot.

by:

Good quality brush - very firm bristles - just right. Reasonable price. Thanks!

by:

Easy ordering. Received quickly.

by:

Rather easy to install by myself with vehicle parked in driveway without a lift. Had to unhook exhaust hanger to fit the right side up but not a problem at all. Less than an hour in total for install and will be perfect for what I needed. Did have to make run to purchase 22mm socket for torque wrench. Looks good installed.

by:

So far so good. Took approximately an hour to install, including unpacking the hitch and cleaning out the weld nuts. While potentially possible to install on your own with strategically placed supports, it's more realistic to install with two people, even if one of them is just lifting, steadying, and holding the hitch in place while you do all the work. Everything lined up perfectly. Didn't even need to put the van up on ramps. Trimmed the plastic fascia on the driver side as shown in the video instructions and worked like a charm to reinstall.

Test fit our bike rack (which is our primary intended use) and everything fit snuggly. So far, very happy with the purchase.

by:

The receiver install video was excellent, very much appreciated the level of detail. Installing this hitch receiver was very easy with 2 people and a lift for the car (just followed the video for the 2013 MDX). The only issue I had was that the video says the flange bolts need a 19mm socket, but the bolts I received needed an 18mm socket. Otherwise everything was right on. I have used the hitch receiver with a cargo carrier to transport a mobility scooter (~800 mile round trip) and it worked very well!

Installing the wiring harness was also very easy by following the video (again great detail). The extra hints for the brush (receiver video) and the circuit tester (wiring harness video) were also very helpful. All products are working very well. Thanks for making this install so easy and successful!!!

by:

The brush is very easy to use. I still use it to clean out road debris from bolt holes in my car and hitch.

by:

Works fine for dirt and debris, but does not work with nuts that are welded in the frame and have rusted. I would like to see you offer a tool to assist in removing the rust from a nut. I used a rotary tool with a small steel brush but it wasn't ideal, as it was too large.

  • Unable To Start Bolts To Install A Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch On A 2011 Toyota Avalon
Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having installing the the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch on your 2011 Toyota Avalon. A lot of times the factory weld-nuts that the hardware for your hitch installs into can become packed with grime or paint, and may not allow the bolt to thread. I recommend taking a nylon brush # 814092 to the weld-nuts to clean off the threads a bit. Also, since this brush is made from nylon, you don't have to worry about damaging the threads on your factory...

  • Recommended Tool For Cleaning Threads
To clean threads I recommend using a nylon brush like # 814092. This will allow you to clean out any debris without causing any damage to the threads like a wire brush might cause. Sometimes there is paint or powdercoat in threads that may require you to use a thread tapper to clean them out entirely. You can pick this up at a local hardware store or create your own.

  • Cleaning Up Corroded Threads For Hitch Receiver Install On 2016 Nissan Rogue
Good question, I have a solution for it. You will need to chase the threads with a 12mm by 1.25 tap. You can source these at a local hardware store. Sometimes while using a brush like Nylon Tube Brush - 1/2" # 814092 and penetration oil or lubricant it may take a very long time if the oxidation is old and deep. But if you chase it with a tap it will knock out the rust quicker. Just make sure you are still using a lubricant like WD40.
