Troubleshooting Bolts Too Big When Installing Trailer Hitch on 1998 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

Im confused on how to install the bolts on the passenger side because after I lubricated the holes, I tried to fit the 10.9 bolt and its too big. I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

It is actually pretty common for the bolts to seem like they are too big to fit when installing a trailer hitch such as the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13084 that fits your 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The issue is especially prevalent in more well-traveled vehicles because dirt and corrosion will have taken their toll, making the bolts seem too big for installation.

The best option is to use lubricant and then very thoroughly scrub the weld nuts with Nylon Tube Brush # 814092. This can take repeated attempts if there is a plethora of build up but it will clear up so you can fit the bolts in to complete your installation.

I have added a link to a help article on cleaning weld nuts which I recommend checking out.
