Cleaning Up Corroded Threads For Hitch Receiver Install On 2016 Nissan Rogue

Question:

Hello, Bought two hitches form you for Nissan Rogues. Am having trouble with the second one. The screw holes are rusted on the driver side and I am unable to get the screw in. They will not even bite. Have sprayed with lubricant and brushed per your video, but it still isnt taking. Do you have any further suggestions? Thanks,

Good question, I have a solution for it.

You will need to chase the threads with a 12mm by 1.25 tap. You can source these at a local hardware store.

Sometimes while using a brush like Nylon Tube Brush - 1/2" # 814092 and penetration oil or lubricant it may take a very long time if the oxidation is old and deep. But if you chase it with a tap it will knock out the rust quicker. Just make sure you are still using a lubricant like WD40.
