Video Transcript for Dahon Folding Bikes Stowaway Bag and Saddle Bag Set Review

Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we're gonna be taking a look at our Stowaway Bag and Saddle Bag Carrier for your Dahon folding bikes right here at etrailer. So you have your Dahon folding bike and while it is compact, it is technically portable compared to some other bikes, the question is how can I carry it around So here, we have a stowaway bag, making it slightly easier to carry it around, but also really good for if you need to store it beside your desk or inside your home, and make sure it's all nice and protected. This is designed to fit with your Dahon folding bikes, and they can fit the bikes of different shapes and sizes. So what I have here is the Dahon Briza, and we have different accessories on it right now. This has 20-inch tires, but you can fit this with the Dahon folding bikes of up to 24-inch tires.

The bag itself is made of a nylon construction, and what's impressed me is its ability to withstand wear and tear, especially on the pointy areas of our bike. I've noticed that even as it rubs up against those areas, I don't see tearing even though it is carrying a good amount of weight. And if you have road grime on your bike, since this is a bag that goes around, this helps protect you, your clothes, your carpet, your upholstery from transferring that road grime out. So on the top, we do have reinforced stitching. So you got two layers of material there just to help with that rubber grommet that helps pinch that together and gives you some strength and stability for these straps that go through.

This is supposed to hold up the weight of your folding bike, so it's very important that you strap it through properly and that they're in place there. So then this makes it easier to carry around your bike, and then when you're done, let's say you've left the restaurant, you've left your office, you can take this off and put it right inside of your saddle bag carrier. This can stay on your bike at all times, which is great because then you don't have to worry about forgetting it. So let's take a look at that process. Here, we have our saddle bag clipped on.

So inside the saddle bag is gonna be your pouch. Not really that much space for your other items. So keep that in mind. The saddle bag itself is gonna be water-resistant. It has a 600-denier material, which shows you how thick it is.

And then at the end, you have this nice reflector for the back of your bike. You have a hook-and-loop patch, and just release that to open up the saddle bag. So you have your pouch on the inside for your folding bike itself, but you also have a little bit of space in here. So let's say you wanna keep some smaller items like a little wallet or some coins or change for the bus, you can store them in here. So you can see this doesn't take up much room behind your bike saddle. We do have a quick and easy bracket on top. That way, you just unclip it, and then you now have your saddle bag, and then you keep it together for when you're on the ride. So let's take a look at that install process. So I'm gonna show you how to get this attached to your bike. So you're gonna have of this mounting system right over here with that buckle, and then you're also gonna have this hook-and-loop strap. So we'll start by getting this part attached to the bike semi-permanently. So we're gonna release it from the bag itself, put the bag to the side, we'll use it later. And what we need to do is we need to loosen these bolts. So I have a hex tool here, and we'll loosen that. Once that's loose, you can then take the top bracket off, and put them right underneath the saddle. Now it will depend on whether your bike has a rear rack or not for where you place this. I'm gonna put it slightly tilted up. With that at top bracket in place, you're then gonna get the bottom bracket and secure it with the bolts you loosened earlier. Make sure the buckle is facing out. So just tighten down these two bolts until they're secure and they don't move anymore. So with that in place, we can now buckle our bag to this bracket. So that's popped in, and this is now secured over there. Don't forget to put the hook-and-loop strap around the seat post and tighten that down for extra security. Now you may have to work around the bag 'cause what if you have a rear rack like this This might get in the way, although if your seat post is higher up, that might not be an issue for you. So things like that, try to get the best fit for you and enjoy your bag. So this is the bag out of its saddle bag, and then you also have these straps. So you won't need the bag for now. You can keep that inside of your bigger bag once your bicycle is in there. So let's get familiar with the bag first and take a look at its features. So we're gonna have two sides. We're gonna have the top and then we're gonna have the bottom. So the top is gonna have these zippers, and then the bottom is gonna have a cinch strap. So it feels like it's upside down, but it's designed like this to make it easier for you to put your bike in because what I do is I just put the bag itself over the bike. That looks good. On the inside, you're gonna see another hook-and-loop strap as well as a buckle. So this is gonna give you a little extra support around your bicycle. On the inside of your bag, you're also gonna have two hook-and-loop straps. So if you had the older Dahon bikes where the wheels would come off of the bike, that's what these are for. I'm currently using the relatively newer Briza folding bikes, so I don't need to use them. Just a heads up for why they're there. So we have three different strap points. So the bottom is gonna have a cinch, and that's just gonna support your bike right over there. If you need quick and easy access, you also have a little bit of a zipper at that bottom. And then towards the center, you also have a cinch, and that's gonna support the center of your folding bicycle. And then finally at the top, we have these metal grommets, and that's where you're gonna put your thicker strap. Here at the bottom of the bike, that part with the zipper is a little pouch. So I like to put my excess strap there so it doesn't dangle down. So with this zipped up on top, you can also see with it unzipped. There's your bicycle. And then zip that up, and then we're gonna use our strap. So let's take a look at that. We have two hooks over here. So we're gonna use each side, and connect it to whichever makes us feel more comfortable. When setting this up for the first time, what I like to do is just kind of have it on my shoulder so I can figure out what's the best move for me. We also have some different hooks here or loops, and that's gonna be what the strap itself connects to. So once you figure out a good length for your strap, you're then gonna insert it into the grommets of the bag. Once those are in, you then connect your hooks, and since I'm on the shorter side, I like to connect it to the furthest hook. That way, the strap is shorter. And from there, you're just gonna zip this up. There, and then you now get to pick it up. So let's take a look at how that feels. Might need it shorter, so let's adjust our strap. We have an easy adjustment here with that buckle, so that will make our strap shorter and easier for me to carry. And just like that, we now have it where our folding bike is off the ground and relatively easy to carry around and run around with. My personal thoughts about this stowaway bag is it really depends on what kind of situations you're gonna be using it. I think it's great for let's say, you're storing it beside your desk, you have this inside of your RV, your camper, your boat, and you wanna make sure everything stays together and is connected. Now if your focus for this bag is to make it easier to carry throughout the entire city or through the whole campground, probably not gonna be the best use of this bag. It's okay for short-term transferring from one point to another and then storing it there. So just keep that in mind. I do like how the saddle bag does connect to the bike though because then I don't have to worry about forgetting the bag. It's always there ready for when I need it. Hopefully, this video helped you out with the process of using this bag and helped you decide if it's gonna be the right fit for your situation, whether you're using to store long-term or to transfer from short distances, one point to another. And that was a look here at our stowaway folding bag and saddle bag carrier for your Dahon folding bikes here at etrailer. My name is Evangeline, and I hope I enjoyed the journey..
