Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the replacement head unit for the Curt PowerRide 5th wheel trailer hitches. Has a 30,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this part will replace the head unit on your Curt PowerRide 5th wheel trailer hitch. It works on the hitches part number C22ER or the C36WR.
Both of those, we do sell separately on our website. I want to zoom in and show you some features on this. We'll start with the jaws. They do use an interlocking two-jaw system right here, which provides a nice 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact. And because of that, it'll give you a less rattle, more security than the slide bar models.
The very bottom here, it'll show the multi-directional cast yoke, which delivers a nice, smooth ride. Less strain on the truck. The head will tilt in multiple directions for a nice, smooth ride. Goes side to side, and it will go front to back also. On top of the hitch head right here, has these integrated wear plates.
Gives you a nice, smooth operation when you're connecting to your trailer. Gives you extended longevity. And what's nice, you don't have to have any grease or lube played anymore. You can just, these will take the place of it. And these wear plates are replaceable, so if they do wear down over time, you can replace them with separate parts to put them back to normal.
Now, this does offer four built-in grease zerk fittings for easy lubrication of the jaws and of the hitch head pivot points. Two of them are on the jaw. There's one right over here on this jaw, one on that jaw. And if I swing this around, you'll notice down here, there's one on this pivot point. And then there's the zerk fitting on this pivot point over here, so a total four of them. And those grease zerk fittings allow you to connect your grease gun to there. Pump grease in there for easy lubrication. Now, a nice feature on this, this does ensure secure towing cause it uses a three-point, color coded lock indicator system. And basically, what that does, it allows you just to look at the color indicator that's under the hitch head right here, and that'll tell you the position of the jaws. So right now, it's showing a green circle. That means these jaws are closed, the handle's locked, so it means you're ready to tow. If it shows a yellow triangle down here, that'll mean the jaws are open, means you're ready to couple. And if by chance, it shows a red hexagon, it will mean the jaws are open or the handle's unlocked. You do not wanna tow whenever it's showing red. And as we mentioned, what's nice with these is when you're in the cab, you can just turn around and it's visible from the cab. Now, on the crossmember here, you notice they have four rows of holes. And they do that so it gives you a four inch hitch height adjustment. Now, hitch height is critical cause when you're towing, you want your trailer and your tow vehicle to be as level as possible. So, you wanna put it in the correct position to do that. And that'll allow you to do it, so when you hook your, or bolt your legs up to this crossmember, you'd have four different positions to put it in. So, it'll give you a range of 13 inches to 17 inches hitch height. And hitch height is always measured from the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. This also offers a nice, fast one-pin head removal. There's a large pivot pin right here that this handle's attached to. Makes it easy for one person to remove the hitch from your truck. And you start that by just back here, remove this pin. And then pull this handle and the large pivot pin will come out, allow you to take the head out of the crossmember. And then you can take it apart piece by piece, so one person could remove the whole hitch from the truck. Now, the handle on this has a nice, ergonomic, self-resetting handle. Offers easy to use from the side of the truck bed. Basically, when you remove your pin and clip, you pull your handle, swing it to the back, it'll open the jaws. You're ready for a hook up. And then when you hook up, the handle automatically slide back into place. Drop the pin through and lock it and you're ready to go. And what's nice about this, it's a self-resetting handle. So, in other words, when you unhook, as soon as you unhook, your kingpin comes out of there. Your handle will be in the back position and be open, ready to go. So, it self-resets. Ready to go. This is a nice, sturdy steel construction. Has a durable, dark gray teridium finish. If you notice on the front here, I laid out, it comes with the mounting hardware and the base rail pins and clips. Few specs on this, the gross towing weight capacity is 30,000 pounds. Vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 7,500 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this replacement head unit for the Curt PowerRide 5th wheel trailer hitches..
