This synthetic rope is made of HMPE fiber that is lightweight yet stronger than steel. This synthetic rope is safer to use than a steel rope because it generates less kinetic energy - and therefore less kickback - if a break occurs. It won't stretch - or creep - over time like steel rope can. It floats, so it's easy to identify when you're rigging in creeks or in mud. And it's also less likely to fray and create sharp strands so it's easier to handle and easier to spool. It includes a stainless steel tube thimble for easy attachment of your hook.

It is recommended to use this rope with a hand-saver strap (sold separately) and in conjunction with work gloves (sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook.

Video Transcript for Bulldog Synthetic Rope Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bulldog Synthetic Rope Replacement. This is a 4.8 millimeter x 50 foot power sports replacement rope, designed to fit most power sport wenches, up to 3500 pounds. Part number is BDW20185. Wench line's replaced. We're not going to have to worry about poking wires through our fingers anymore. It's going to give us a nice, easy way to load and unload whatever we want in our trailer. This is the wench we're going to be replacing the line on. As you can see, this one's in desperate need.

That's where that synthetic rope really comes in and really helps out. We're not going to have these frayed ends that are off here, causing us to have to use gloves. You're not going to have that rusting effect and things like that. Not only can that rust our cable, but it can also hold that rust down and also cause corrosion on our wench. It's a good idea to get that replaced.

Just get it pulled off of here. Installation is pretty easy, depending on the style of wench you'll have. You're either going to have a hole that will allow you to pass the rope completely through. Once you've got that passed through, we'll lay that flat across the wench itself. If you don't have the hole, which is the situation we have here, what we're going to do is bring the strap around .. Figure out how much of a tag end we want there.

That should be good there. Now we're going to take our wench line. See how we can push it together there . Kind of spreads out Once we've got it nice and loose, take a screwdriver. Just work it through there. We don't want to do any damage.

We just kind of want to open that hole up. We want to lay that flat part, or our tag end . We'll lay it across the face of the wench. Then we'll pass it right through the middle there, in that hole that we created. Pull that down to the wench. Once we've got that laying on there, we're going to take duct tape, go right down over . Get that nice and secured. Pull out tag end tight. At that point we'll start running our wench line down on. The line itself doesn't come with a hook. Something we would suggest would be our Bulldog 1/4 inch, that's going to refer to the size of the pin that goes through, shackle. Got a nice wide opening to it, spring catch there. Part number BDW20119. What we'll do is just slide that right over the metal keeper we've got there on the end. Slide our cotter pin in. Then just spread that out. We can easily remove it by sliding that pin right back out. Now we've got our fully functioning strap, just to kind of finish that off if you choose to. If you've already got one at home, you can attach it right to the provided keeper here. It's going to give us a nice metal reinforced area, so as we're pulling on it, we're not putting any undue stress on our line itself, simply in on the metal on the back side there. With our line replaced, we're ready to get loaded up, and we can head right on down the road. That's going to complete today's installation of the Bulldog Synthetic Rope, part number BDW20185.

  • Recommended Synthetic Rope For Superwinch To Replace Steel Cable
I called my contact at Superwinch and asked about changing the steel cable on your 4500 series winch to a synthetic rope. My contact said it can be done if the winch you have is the Terra Series but it cannot be done if the winch you have is the S series winch. If you have the Terra series winch like part # SW1145220, the replacement rope I recommend is part # BDW20185. This rope measures 4.8mm x 50-ft and has a capacity of 3,500-lbs.
