Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I needed new steel wheels for my 1964 Ford Country Squire wagon, I found exactly what I needed from trailer.com. The wheels are of good quality and come powder coated gloss black, they fit as expected! Thanks etrailer.com

by:

Great looking rim accompanied by baby moon hub caps. Used for a teardrop camper.

by:

They are great wheels. Work great on my 64-1/2 Mustang with 215 R15 60 tires while I waiting on the permanent wheels.

by:

It’s perfect ! I’ve been looking for a rim for my trailer that matches the two wheels I have .
15 inch 5 lug on a 4 1/2” bolt pattern . Thanks !

by:

Added new painted rims and tires with moon caps. Fast and accurate delivery

by:

We purchased a 1962 Shasta camper that came with a standard rim spare tire. We wanted to mount on back bumper and have matching rim/baby moon as the camper. We took the spare tire, new wheel and a set of porta-walls to our local tire shop and now have a great looking spare tire on the back of our camper!

by:

Great wheels, high quality and made in the USA. Looks awesome on my utility trailer.

by:

etrailer was able to ship me a new replacement wheel and baby moon hubcaps in four days after experiencing a flat between Miami and Fort Meyers on the Alligator Alley 1600 miles from home! Since I had to drive a mile and a half on the rim to find a safe place to change the flat I decided to replace the wheel . I’ve had two of these wheels on my trailer for over 18,000 miles with no complaints. Thanks George and etrailer for the fast response.

by:

I received help from etrailer on making the correct choice of wheels for my vintage trailer. I did paint them white. I also bought the Baby Moon Caps. I am very happy with them.

I scraped the wheel it didn’t work I was told it would work with disc brakes. I guess I was lye to, but that all right I will not buy any thing else from Etrailer again

Perfect. Fast delivery.

by:

fast shipping, and great product!

by:

I always use etrailer. Fair prices great service.

by:

Wheels arrived yesterday well packaged. Very nice powder coating. High quality wheel.
I didn’t calculate the offset correctly. Will need 1/4” spacers for the 225/70/15 trailer tires. That will work as the lugs are long.
Thanks for the nice customer service and follow up, Mike.
Good customer service is definitely lacking nowadays so it is appreciated and a professional plus.

by:

Product arrived in good shape and exactly as advertised.

I wanted to replace my factory-installed travel trailer wheels and tires from 14.5" to 15" diameter, plus improve the wear resistance to a Load D rating. We still wanted to maintain the Retro look of our trailer, so we opted for the wheels that supported the original shiny half-moon hubcaps. After receiving all the parts (one damaged hubcap was quickly replaced; I recommend shipping them in a different box than the heavy wheels), I spray-painted the wheels a bright red, to support the original color scheme, then had them mounted and balanced by the local tire shop. I then installed them; they look great!
Paula was a terrific help with the order processing; made it all go quite seamlessly!

  • 14" Trailer Wheel with a 4-bolt Pattern
We have one 14" rim with a four-bolt pattern. It's the Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel w/ +5 mm Offset - 14" x 5-1/2" Rim, part # AM20312. This is a vintage rim with a 4 on 9.44" bolt pattern, a 5-1/2" width, and a 1/2" positive offset. It's our only 14" inch rim with a 4-bolt pattern, so make sure to measure from the center of one of your lug nuts to the center of the opposite one to ensure they are in fact 9.44" apart. I've linked to a video review of this wheel for your reference.

  • What Size Trailer Wheel Will Fit a 7.00 x 15 Inch Tire
The closest size to a 7.00x15 tire would be a 225/75-15. These tires can fit on a 6 to 7 inch wide rim. But they are a little taller at 28.4 inches versus 27.88 for a 7.00x15. So basically, going to a 6 inch wide rim would be ideal. The black steel wheel that you have referenced, # AM20504, is a 15x6 inch with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. But it also has a positive 5mm offset meaning the tire will be closer to the trailer frame by 5mm. You would have to make sure you have the available space...

  • The Max PSI for Trailer Wheels Versus Tire Max PSI
The max psi rating is specific to each tire as it is tested, so you cannot simply increase tire pressure to get a higher speed rating or increase weight capacity. Your tires could overheat or wear quickly because they are not designed for that pressure rating. Overheating is the number one cause of tire failure including blow outs and it is almost always due to improper inflation or traveling over the speed rating of the tire. • Black Steel Wheel and Baby Moon Hub Cap Recommendation for a 1966 Serro Scotty Canned Ham Trailer
I will start out with your original tire. I did some calculations and the overall diameter of your original 640/15 tire would be approximately 25.48 inches and the width would be 6.4 inches. The diameter of the older tire is most likely why, when the wheels and tires were replaced, someone went with a 13 inch wheel and tire assembly. Newer 15 inch trailer tires all start out at around 27 inches diameter which may pose a contact problem with your trailers fender wells. In addition 15 inch...

  • Can Trailer Tires be Moved Further Away from the Trailer Frame
A wheel with an offset has the mounting surface off center so that the tire will be either closer to the trailer or further away depending on if it is a negative or positive offset. Positive offset means that the tire will be CLOSER to the trailer. Negative offset means that the tire will be FURTHER from the trailer. It sounds like you want a negative offset to move the tires a little further away from the trailer. But if the current set up is not making contact with the frame then you...

We don't carry vehicle rims, but we are aware that many people use trailer wheels like our Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with Offset - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black, # AM20504 along with the Americana Baby Moon Trailer Wheel Center Cap - Chrome-Plated Steel - Qty 1, # AM90086 for a vintage look. We cannot recommend trailer wheels for vehicle use, but these rims look very nice on vintage trailers.

  • Largest Wheel Size Offered With a 5 on 4-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern
The largest steel trailer wheels we have with 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern are 15" in diameter. They are available in either a 3.19" hub bore like wheel # AM20545 or 2.62" hub bore like the wheel # AM20504. Both these wheels are lug centric so you would be able to use the larger 3.19" hub bore unless your trailer hub requires hub centric wheels.

  • Trailer Tire Valve Stem Pressure Capacity for Changing to Load Range D Tires
The limiting factor in a wheel's pressure capacity is usually the valve stem. Some are rated only for 65-psi, # AM20903, while others such as # AM20904 are rated for 80-psi. Part # AM20907 handles up to 100-psi and part # AM20906 is good for tires needing over 100-psi pressure. Note different valve stems fit different size holes in the wheels. You will have no trouble moving up to a Load Range D tire on your 15 x 5-inch wheels so long as you also have the correct valve stem installed when...

  • Replacement Tire and Wheel Recommendation for a 1966 Go-Tag-Along Trailer
I can definitely help you get squared away with tires for your 1966 Go-Tag-Along but unfortunately I don't have a way to know what exact tire size that came on your trailer so we'll need to do some measurements to see what will work. We recommend 2" of clearance from your tire sidewall to the trailer frame and then 4" from the top of your tire to the fender to account for the flex of your suspension. If your 215/75-15 tires have adequate clearance then I just need to know your wheel bolt...

  • What is the Backspacing on Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with Offset - 15
Wheel # AM20504 has a 1/2 inch positive offset meaning that the mounting surface of the wheel is further away from the trailer which moves the tire closer to the frame. The backspacing is approximately 4 inches from the mounting surface to the edge of the wheel closest to the trailer.

The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel + 1/2 inch Offset - 15 x 6 inch Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black, item # AM20504, has a weight capacity of 1870 lbs. and would work great on your 7000 lb. GVW trailer. The only concern is the 1/2 inch positive offset of the wheel. Most trailer wheels and tires have a 0 offset which means that the part of the wheel that bolts to the hub is centered in the wheel. The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20504 have a +0.5 offset on 15" wheels with a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, as well as a 1820-lbs capacity which makes them a great fit for your trailer. From your photo, it appears that the tire is only rubbing on a small portion of the trailer frame, not in a compete arc. This leads me to believe that the axle has most likely been bent. You can certainly try shifting the axle, but I'm not convinced that 1/8 of an inch is going to get you where you want to be.
