Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.
The more miles you put on your trailer, the more your brake pads will wear down. As they lose contact with the drum, stopping distances get longer and longer. To keep your brakes working great, it's important to adjust them pretty routinely. For this job, grab a floor jack and either a brake adjustment tool (sold separately) or just a standard flathead screwdriver.
Jack up your trailer enough to get the wheel(s) off the ground. Remove the adjuster plugs from the backing plate on the brake, and insert the flat end of the tool through the back of the assembly.
Push in on the star gear and lift it up. Keep doing this until the brake pads catch on your drum. When you can't spin your wheel by hand anymore, back the gear off by about 10 clicks by pushing down on the star gear. Does the wheel now spin freely (even if it sounds like the brake pads drag slightly on the drum)? Great! Then you're all done with that one and ready to adjust the rest.
After you get these brakes installed and adjusted, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.
Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

Made in the USA.I ordered and received the brake assemblies in good time. These are genuine Dexter brakes made in the USA. Needed additional items, hub/drums, but unfortunately etrailer could not supply. I was able to source them from a local HD truck and trailer supplier and will complete the brakes when they arrive.
Trailer was homemade by high school welding class. Fortunately an axle allowing installation of brakes was used. Easy installation. When it comes time for new brakes, I will order the kit instead of individual shoes, etc.

At first, I was disappointed because the left and right brake assemblies were not a matched pair, one was for a larger axle. etrailer helped and got the correct brake sent quickly with all shipping info to get the incorrect assembly sent back. I would definitely use etrailer again.

The new Dexter brakes are working fine with not issue
Product arrived on time in good shape as advertised. Looks great and fits perfect. There were questions on my trailer (2013 Jayco Swift) about capacity of axle and size of drums that I had to answer. I also had to measure my wheel seals. I was apprehensive while waiting for delivery but relieved when I received my components. Many thanks to the etrailer team for their attention to detail.
Product arrived with broken part. I am disappointed and unsatisfied

first order I placed was for the wrong axle size but once that was rectified, the new break assemblies fit onto my 2014 Jay Flight Swift SLX like a glove. I received them within a few days of my scheduled camping trip and I had both on and existing hubs cleaned up within a day or two. All I can say at this time is how impressed I am with how easy it was to get a good product the Dexter Electric trailer brake kit from etrailor.com and how fast they where in getting my purchase to my house. They informed of when they shipped my product, and how to follow my purchase on line. I have yet to have pictures of my all new brake kits installed but I can say I am looking forward to getting my trailer back on the road.

I bought these to add brakes to an enclosed trailer that had none.. Everything fit perfectly. Hardest part of the retrofit was finding a decent chassis ground. Magnets are quite noisy as they wear in. Only have about 150 miles on them so far so I anticipate them getting quieter with more miles.

The process for ordering was made very easy with the help of Bryan ( I believe) was his name. I was told the items would arrive today and like clock work they arrived. I was free to start the replacement and with in 2 hours both brake assemblies were on the travel trailer. Because I have endless tools, I had everything including heat shrink to install over sliced wire to break magnets. I only needed to look up the process for re-adjusting the new drakes. The whole process from calling etrailer to receiving and installing the brakes was so great.
The only place that had them and our customer was in a bind. And y’all made it where he could get back on the road in a few short days! Thanks etrailer!

two mounting bolts loose,need better packing, put the nuts on them so they wont come loose.
I couldn't find a local source for this item. Etrailer had it and got it to me as soon as possible via UPS Next Day. I wish they offered FedEx Next Day that delivers earlier in the day in my area.
Arrived within 2 days. Well packaged. Great service. Could not find these parts anywhere else.
