Video Transcript for Review of Optronics Trailer Wiring - 7 Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector To Blade - A7WCB

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a real quick look at this seven-way round RV style trailer connector. This seven-way round plug is going to let you connect your trailer to your seven-way round blade connector of your tow vehicle. And this features a durable ABS plastic housing and the interlock system is going to lock in place to keep your connection secure. The oversized finger tabs are going to allow you to easily grip the plug during disconnections.

And I wanted to point out a few things here. On this end, on this side here of this connector, we have these two set screws that's going to loosen and tighten this insert. So when you begin to run your wires through this connector, you obviously want to loosen these screws up and that's going to allow that insert to move out of the way. So then you can begin to run your wires through there and then you can just tighten these two screws back up and that will in turn tighten up that insert and that's going to close, that's going to close up against the wires that you run through here, giving you a nice, tight, secure fit. So that's going to keep out dust and moisture out of those connection points.

And then I wanted to point out this other screw that we have here on the other end on top, that's going to allow this connection point to actually come out of the housing. So you're gonna run your wires through, get this portion out and make your connections and then put it back into the housing and then tighten the screw. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me.

I was expecting blade connectors as shown in the pictures and video and that is the main reason I purchased this item. Instead it had screw connectors.

Works great, easy to install

by:

Parts arrived quickly and were very good quality. I will definitely use etrailer.com for all my trailer supplies.

by:

I was hoping for the terminal blade connectors, like the video shows, instead of the screw type connectors that I got. The blade connectors seem to be more reliable. Still, it's a quality plug, it's installed and it works. Thank you.

by:

It would have been very helpful if the item description would have stated that the trailer connector was equipped with "Spade Contacts" and require Spade Connectors, and/or illustrate this in a picture, and provide those connector as part of the package. It would have saved a lot of time in making a second order to acquire the Spade Connectors.

Works perfect and has been holding up in the weather here in new England

Used this as a plug for my portable 12V air compressor to facilitate access to power, rather than clips to battery. As usual, over the past several years etrailer is my go-to store for all trailer & towing needs. Excellent variety, price and prompt service. Keep up the good work..............

We installed the lights on a trailer we were selling. Installation went smooth, lights worked great. We install the trailer plug on a 12V compressor so we could power it from our trailer hook up and it works great also. You are our go-to trailer supply store.

by:

Wired it in and it works. Not much more to say. Works on my buddy's 2006 F-150 and on my 2003 Dodge Neon (yeah...you heard that right) and also on my 2016 Sierra Denali.

by:

Good quality.

by:

Easy to wire and the hard mounted contacts solved the intermittent connection issue I was having with the previous connector that had floating contacts.

by:

works great

by:

Had to replace a 7 pin on an RV that got sheered by previous owner. The video on how to replace and the part made it very easy to change the connector. Saved a bundle doing it ourselves.

  • 7-Way Trailer Plug Adapter or Compatibility with Lance Slide-In Truck Bed Camper
Lance does have a proprietary plug, but many customers see a standard 6-way or 7-way round and notice it doesn't fit their factory 7-way as well. I've attached an article to help if you have one of the 7-way or 6-way round connectors which we do have adapters for. If you have a 7-way round, then you will use adapter # 47595. If you have a 6-way plug then you will use adapter # 47549 or # PK12728. If you have the special Lance plug, I recommend replacing it with # A7WCB which would directly...

  • Recommended Front Camper Tie Downs and Electrical for Lance Camper in 2021 Ford F-350
We do have the parts you're seeking for your 2021 Ford F-350. If you wanted a stake pocket tie down, the Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie Downs - Bed Mount - Black Powder Coated Steel - Qty 4 # TDSF are a universal solution that would work well; the only draw back to these is that they are permanently installed and do require drilling to install. For a frame mounted solution I recommend using the TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Front # TLF2021, which will offer you...

  • Can Vehicle 7-Way Connector Power a Light Duty Boat Trailer Winch with 11-Ampere Draw
The 40-amp circuit on your 7-way is really intended for delivering only a modest current to maintain an already-charged trailer battery while you're driving. It is not really intended for operating a power-hungry item such as a winch. A safer option and one that will let the winch work at its fullest capacity is a winch wiring kit like # BDW20307 that includes heavy 6-gauge wiring and connectors. You might refer to the linked article on wiring winches. Since I do not know the specifics...

  • Can I Charge My Trailer Battery Using 7-Way Trailer Connector on Truck
You would not be able to charge your battery through the wiring on your 4-way trailer connector. Since your truck has a 7-way connector, you could maintain the power to the battery but not charge it. To begin, you would need to cut off your 4-way trailer connector and install a 7-way connector on the trailer like the Optronics 7-way, part # A7WCB. You would need to connect the appropriate wires. • Options for 16 Gauge Wire to Power a 12 Volt Spot Sprayer in Bed of 2012 Ford F-150
We carry different types of 16 gauge wire. We have bonded 4-Wire, # 16-4B-1, jacketed 4 wire, # DW03240-1, bonded 3-Wire, # 16-3B-1, and single wire # 16-1-1. Each of these are available in increments of 1 foot. So if you needed 8 feet you would enter 8 in the quantity box for an 8 foot length of wire. I would over estimate it because it is better to have too much wire than not enough. You also might be interested in some heat shrink tubing # DW05744-10 to keep the splices water tight.

  • Brake Controller Has Power But Trailer Brakes Do Not Work
There are some tests you can do to determine where the problem is: brake controller, truck, or trailer. First, in the truck cab you will need to sever the blue wire several inches from the back of the controller. Then use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the end of the blue wire coming out of the controller. It should only have power when you apply the manual override or brake pedal. If it shows power at idle, then there is something wrong with the controller and it will need...

I have a solution for you but all of the trailer end 7-way connectors have the same wiring configuration. 4-14 gauge wires for stop/turn left, stop/turn right, running lights and reverse signal 1-12 gauge wire for the brake signal 2-10 gauge wires for the 12 volt power and ground. These gauges are chosen based off of the demands on each one. And I have never ran into an issue with overloading one of the 14 gauge circuits. • Which Wires Have Constant 12V Power on a 7-Way Connector
For your 7-way trailer connector, the only wire that might have constant power is the one running from the 12V power pin and battery. Since some vehicles always have power and some do not it is not possible to determine this for your 2008 F-250 Super Duty without testing. Using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 Hook Probe Circuit Tester, you can test the pin in the one o'clock position on the 7-way connector. This should be the 12V hot lead. Other pins should not have power unless the...

  • Wiring Lance Slide In Camper to Work with In-Bed Trailer Connector on 2019 ford F250
Since the 7-way round pin plug is obsolete, your best bet would be to replace the connector on your camper with the common 7-way blade style connector. • Adapter for 5 Pole Trailer Connector on Trailer to 7-Way on Tow Vehicle
If the trailer uses a 5 pole trailer connector, you'll need a 5 pole to 7-way adapter like # A75TB. I recommend using the 7 way connector # A7WCB and hard wiring your plug the way you want it setup. You can get wire by the foot (12 gauge) # 12-1-1 or (10 gauge) # 10-1-1 and a Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 3375601100 to finish off this project. This will allow you to use the proper gauge...

  • How to Determine Function Carried on Each Wire on Trailer
Thank you for the photo of the wiring on your trailer. Wire colors alone are not a reliable way to figure out what signal the wire carries but heavier gauge wires are often used for the trailer's main ground (usually a white wire), for 12V auxiliary power for the trailer or for the brake circuit on the trailer (if it has electric brakes) for which usually a blue wire is used. We don't have this specific information for your vehicle, but to determine if your 12V always has power you can test the pin in the 1 O'clock position on your 7-way.
