Çable good but after putting new 7way plug on truck cable wire colors did not match etrailers picture

I know that the Hopkins harness wires are as follows for function: White Wire - Ground, Red Wire - Left Turn and Brake, Brown Wire - Right Turn and Brake, Green Wire -Tail Lights, Blue Wire -Brake Power, Black Wire -12 volt hot lead, Yellow Wire -Aux.. They will not necessarily match the trailer for color; you will want to match them for function. If the colors are not as they are stated here please let me know.

7 pin connector separated from cable.
I
was expecting that "Molded Cable" meant that the connector was fused to the cable insulation but instead, the two separated almost immediately after I installed it. It still works fine as the wires are connected securely inside the connector but with the outer covering pulled out like this, I don't think it will last very long.

by:

Very simple and well made. It’s a lot better than wadding up the cord and stuffing it in the fifth wheel hitch.

by:

I installed this Hopkins connector cable on my 2003 Jayco 12 Sd popup camper because I replaced hydraulic brakes on it with the electric brakes. Needed some extra wires. Four were not enough to operate the lights and electric brakes. Installation was quick. I had to match wires on the trailer with cable wires. Cable looks great and so far it works great. We just checked out on our first camping trip this year.

by:

Quality plug connector, works well and I'm sure will last a long time.

Still working well, no issues, seems to be very high quality.

by:

Easy plug in and use as advertised

The outer sheath for the pigtail has pulled away from the plug, exposing the wires inside. I fear the wiring will soon pull from the connections inside the plug. Im always careful to pull the plug out by the plug itself.

by:

Arrived in a timely fashion, easy installation and worked well.

by:

I bought a used trailer and it needed the cable replaced. The new cable is working great

by: 11/30/2023

Part enabled installation to be complet ed.

by:

My wire harness was easy to install, looked great and performed great. One year later and it still looks and performs great! I definitely recommend to anyone building their own trailer or are looking to upgrade to better wiring! My homemade trailer was a great success, thanks to etrailer.com!

by:

It was just like the one that I was replacing. I cut a corner to sharp while turning and pinched the cable that came with my Keystone RV. Like for like.

by:

Well built and plenty of length for wiring to my junction box.

by:

Thanks for your help with parts for my trailer build. My wife and I are still making custom cabinets out of curly maple. We hope to finish this winter. We have taken it out 7 times this season. Thanks again.

by:

Had some real issues with this one. Should have noticed when purchasing this harness is not wired using standard truck/trailer color format. Other than that it went together fairly nice. If the connector would come apart I was thinking of fixing the wiring my self.

by:

I am replacing the trailer connection wiring harness as part of the brake system. My 5th wheel trailer is now 10 years old so this is a preventive maintenance step in the process. Hopefully with new wheel/brake parts my trailer brakes will work better.
Thanks ETrailer.com and Rebecca for great support.

by:

Exactly like described - great job.

by:

Exactly what I ordered. Prompt delivery and notifications!

by:

Part of brake wiring assembly. I followed etrailer's wiring diagram.

by:

Pros: Best wire gauge in a 7 pin connector I could find.

Cons: reverse lights (red), left turn (yellow), right turn (green), and running light (brown) and not wired correctly in the plug for their respective wire colors.

I bought this for a sealed plug with good gauge wire to help save some time. What I got was a total headache trying to find out the problem of why it was not working correctly. This might not have been so bad had it not been on a new to me truck that I was not so trusting of the wiring in it. So I wound up looking at the truck first not thinking the plug would be wired incorrectly.

Be warned.

by:

exact replacement made the repair easy.

by:

This has been a great replacement harness and was easy to install.

by:

This trailer was built from scratch using only the metal frame. I purchased some items from etrailer an was very satisfied with the products.

by:

These folks are Top Notch, they kept me updated on my part, and followed up after delivery. Not to forget, my trailer side wiring harness, is solid and I fully expect no issues when I install it. Thank you!!

by:

Worked perfectly. I like the extra length compared to the original cable.

by:

only negative is nothing to say what wire goes to what function. basically no diagram sheet but that is easily found Info

  • What Gauge Wire Is Required On a 7-Way Connector
On a 7-Way connector the suggested minimum wire gauge for the White (ground) wire, the Red or Black (power) wire, and the Blue (brake power) wire is 12 gauge. The minimum wire gauge for the remaining Green (right turn/brake) wire, the Yellow (left turn/brake) wire, the Brown (tail lights) wire, and the Purple (reverse light) wire is 16 gauge. Let's start with your trailer. To add electric drum brakes to your trailer you will need to choose brake assemblies that match the mounting pattern on your existing flanges and that offer a capacity that matches your axle's rating. I suggest you start with a review of the linked article that covers the process of adding electric brakes and each of the components required. To keep costs down you might want to consider a complete axle kit such as # e43SR which includes the axle beam, brakes,...

Thank you for the spec sheet on the axle you have on your trailer. I spoke with my contact at Dexter and they told me that you do not need to replace your axle, you can just upgrade the one you have. They told me that you have the brake mounting flange mounted on your axle so what you will want to do is add a new hub and drum, the brakes, and wiring for your trailer, and you should be good to go. The hub and drum I recommend is the etrailer.com Trailer Hub Assembly, part # AKHD-545-35-G-K....

  • Which 7-Way Trailer Plug has the Largest Gauge Wires
I have a solution for you but all of the trailer end 7-way connectors have the same wiring configuration. 4-14 gauge wires for stop/turn left, stop/turn right, running lights and reverse signal 1-12 gauge wire for the brake signal 2-10 gauge wires for the 12 volt power and ground. These gauges are chosen based off of the demands on each one. And I have never ran into an issue with overloading one of the 14 gauge circuits. • Easy Way to go From 7-Way of 2020 GMC Jimmy to 4-Way
The easiest way to go from the 7-way of your vehicle to a 4-way would be with a 7-way to 4-way adapter part # PK12716 which will just plug right into the 7-way and give you an active 4-way. Otherwise to wire in a 4-way to your 7-way wiring you'd need a 4-way like part # 18252 and you'd then need to use the attached wiring diagram to locate the wire colors you need to connect to.

By damaged power cable, I assume you are referring to your trailer's 7-way being severed, and while there likely isn't going to be any electrical damage, you will need to replace the 7-way connector from the trailer. You didn't specify what was severed, but this is the most obvious culprit based on how they connect. The reason you aren't finding anything is because a standard 6-way or 7-way trailer connector moves to the round style like what you have on your truck. What you need to do is swap out your 5-way flat with a 7-way trailer connector like the # H20046. You will match up your existing connections with those on the new 7-way and then connect the 12V power running from your battery. Make sure you match the functions and don't just match colors since they aren't always the same. See the chart...

I think I understand your confusion. The taillight system of your 92 Ford pickup uses what's referred to as a combined taillight system, which means that the right turn and brake light signal is combined and carried on one circuit and the left turn/brake light signal is combined and carried on another circuit. So, if you're looking at the front of the 7-way blade style plug, the 12-volt power feeds the pin in the 1:00 position, right turn/brake feeds the pin in the 3:00 position, brake...
