When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

So far so good seems your product works great i'm very pleased.

by:

Product works but when I back up. The actuator moves back and the brakes go on! Don’t know how to fix this. Now I put a c clamp on it to stop it from going in.

Thanks for your review of your Titan actuator coupler T4747200, while the C-clamp works, there is a safer way to deactivate the surge brakes on your coupler. You can use an item called a reverse lock out. This will get signal from your tow vehicle when it is in reverse and will NOT apply the brakes on the trailer allowing you to back up. For your Model 6 actuator you can use the T4748800 lock out solenoid, and you may want a cover like T4836800183 as a solenoid shield that will help protect the reverse lock out solenoid. You will need to make sure that the solenoid is connected to the tow vehicle reverse light circuit, so if you have a 7-way on the trailervehicle then you would need to splice in and connect to the correct line. I have included a link to one of our help articles that shows the various locations of the reverse line depending on how the trailer is wired. If you have a 4-way flat, you can convert it to a 5-way taht will splice into the vehicle side reverse wiring, and the kit HM47890 includes both the trailer and vehicle side wiring harness. Another option for wiring the vehicle is to use a 5-Way adapter like part 47515 which will allow you to leave the 4-Way wiring connector on your vehicle and add the reverse light circuit to the adapter when towing this trailer.

  • Difficulty Bleeding Trailer Brakes with Titan Model 6 Actuator
It does take quite a bit of force to manually push in an actuator with or without the cap on. But the cap should be off when you bleed the brakes. Also, the longer the board the more leverage you can put on the coupler and the easier it will be to move it. I recommend using a vacuum pump brake bleeder # PTW87030 which makes things a lot easier. Also it is worth mentioning that if the fluid has no where to go then the actuator will only push in so far. So if you haven't opened a bleeder...

  • How to Know What Weight Rating is Needed When Converting from Drum to Disc Brakes
Good questions and there is a lot here so let's start with the simplest thing, the weight rating. Trailer brakes are rated based on their axle; for example, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35D-8 is designed for a 3,500 lb axle and a tandem axle trailer with a pair of 3,500 lb axles would need two of these, so the first thing to know is the weight rating of your axles. Then to get the correct fit, since you are replacing a hub and drum, you are going to need a disc brake kit with a hub...

  • Recommended Kit for Converting EZ Loader Boat Trailer Drum Brakes to Titan Disc Brakes
The item you selected, Titan Disc Brake Kit and Leverlock Actuator w/ Electric Lockout, part # T4747200, is zinc coated to prevent corrosion. To prevent warping, I would recommend allowing the brakes to cool after driving a long distance before backing your boat into the water. I would recommend The Titan Disc Brake Kit, part # T4747200, for a boat trailer rather than the Galphorite Coated Assemblies. With any brake assembly, heat can remain around the bearings and can be sucked in through...

On Titan Disc Brake Kit and Leverlock Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Tandem, # T4747200, I called Titan to verify the materials and they said the calipers are cast iron, the caliper hardware is stainless steel and the bleeder screw is brass. The piston in the brake caliper is made of stainless steel.

  • Adding Brake Flanges To An Aluminum Trailer with 2,200 lb Axles
What you will want to do is purchase the part # 4-34 as this is a brake mounting flange designed for 2.2k axles, provided your axle is a 1-3/4" round tube. The brake mounting flange needs to be welded on perfectly square and concentric and if it is off by even just a little bit, this can lead to all kinds of problems with trailer ride, stability, tire, and suspension wear. We strongly recommend that brake flanges be welded on by a professional shop that routinely works on trailers and...

  • Replacement Brake Actuator for Global Direct GDC-80
You will need to cut that off of your 2001 Cobalt 240 to replace the actuator since there are no replacements that will fit. I recommend welding on a straight tongue so you can use a bolt-on actuator like the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T4747200. This is made for disc brakes and has the same 8,000 lb rating you currently have.

  • Will the Titan Disc Brake Kit # T4747200 Fit on a 2003 Triton Elite 18 Dual Axle Snowmobile Trailer
The Titan Disc Brake Kit and Leverlock Actuator w/ Electric Lockout for Tandem, 3,500-lb Axles, item # T4843200, is designed to replace the Surge brake coupler, all of the brake lines and fittings, the hub/rotors, and the brake calipers. Everything is included for both axles. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4747200 does not come with a lockout but one can be added easily using the Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts part # T4748800. The lockout is what allows you to back up the trailer without locking up the brakes.

  • Recommended Replacement Actuator for GDC-80
We've got some nice options to replace the GDC-80 actuator you've got that will bolt up to a 3 inch channel tongue. I recommend using the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc # T4747200 (for disc brakes) or the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum # T4079200 (for drum brakes), which both have 8000-lbs capacities and fit 2-5/16" hitch balls, so they're the same specs as your GDC-80.

  • How Does Breakaway Cable of Titan Actuator Reset
What do you mean reset? Do you mean like resetting the breakaway mechanism of the actuator? We do have a kit with a larger capacity coupler available, Titan Disc Brake Kit and Actuator # T4747200. I recommend this kit, but you will need to check a few things to make sure it will work on your trailer. You will need to check your bolt pattern and wheel size, check your bearing numbers, check to see if the other axle has a brake mounting flange, and measure the trailer tongue. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16 inch Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs, is the coupler you would need to order for use with drum brakes. The difference between the drum and disc actuator couplers is that the drum brakes have a check valve that holds a small amount of brake line pressure on the system, so that when the brakes are applied they will immediately apply the brakes, with no time lag for building initial pressure. Disc brake systems do not require this check valve...

I wasn't able to find any information on the TS3571EZ axle you have by Dexter, but I will say this will fit a Dexter 3,500 lb axle that has hubs on it currently that are inner bearing number of L68149 and outer bearing number of L44649. It would be best to go with the appropriate actuator, # T4747200. You could also replace the master cylinder in the drum brake actuator using the disc brake master cylinder # T1777405.

  • Actuator Recommendation for a Triple Axle Trailer Going from Drum Brakes to Disc Brakes
Some drum brake actuators can have the check valve removed or punctured to allow it to function disc brake setups, but this won't work for a triple axle brake setup because drum brake actuators just don't have the volume to activate the disc brakes.
